I find Hawkeye and the love story in LOTM to be underwritten and the waterfall scene to be corny IMO...HOwever, I do enjoy the scene when he argues with Cora about the homesteaders buriel and the scne in the glade. Gerry Conlon in ITNOTF is a much more emotionally complex performance as are his performances in My Beautiful Laundrette, Age Of Innocence, the Boxer (which has a better love story than Mohicans), and the Ballad of jack and rose.

Everyone talks about how great he was in "There Will Be Blood". And as good as he was, I can't help but think he did it all first in this movie. I have to think that Paul Thomas Anderson styled Daniel Plainview in the mode of Bill The Butcher.

don't get me wrong alot of the movies he's been in were great for more than the reason he was in it but he has been in quite a few with really crappy plots but they still were great movies cause his characters were amazing.

The very definitive of irony.
2 ethnic groups of european immigrants killing each other over empty dominance rights to lands they stole from the actual "native americans." I always wonder why no one makes movies about life in America before 1492. Such a shame, for history really matters. Im some ways, this film clip reminds me of the talking points held by the GOP, Fox News pundits, and the conservative right at large.

Liam once said in an interview, that during the making of the movie, they would both be lifting weights and DDL was so in character at all times, he would try to intimidate Liam as he entered the room by uttering, "morning Priest". Not to mention all the rumored fights he would try to start with ppl who got on his bad side.lol He is EPIC.

I agree. I find Hawkeye and the love story in LOTM to be underwritten and the waterfall scene to be corny IMO...HOwever, I do enjoy the scene when he argues with Cora about the homesteaders buriel and the scne in the glade. Gerry Conlon in ITNOTF is a much more emotionally complex performance as are his performances in My Beautiful Laundrette, Age Of Innocence, the Boxer (which has a better love story than Mohicans), and the Ballad of jack and rose.

Whats funny is that the movie shows William Cutting (Bill the Butcher) die during the draft riots of 1863, however the real (Bill the Butcher) who's real name was William Poole died of a gunshot wound to the heart in 1855. But there is no dispute that William Poole was a rough and tough street fighting bad ass who went down saying the infamous quote, "Good bye boys, I die a true American".

Everyone talks about how great he was in "There Will Be Blood". And as good as he was, I can't help but think he did it all first in this movie. I have to think that Paul Thomas Anderson styled Daniel Plainview in the mode of Bill The Butcher.

@meyster7 Not just that, but Day Lewis' character in 'There Will Be Blood' was far more mysterious and personally a more real character. So although he showed the same accent and anger in Gangs of New York, his charcter's were completely different.

I remember picking up this movie when it first came out on DVD and only really watching it because I recognized Leonardo DiCaprio and Cameron Diaz was in this and looked ok.
But
-This is honestly on my is for one of the greatest movies.
And all the actors in the movies look like amatures compared to Daniel Day Lewis. he is if not the greatest one of the great fine actors today.

Only Liam Neeson equals the energy of Day-Lewis' play in this movie, sad that his role wasn't that big, amazing how they concentrate power and suspense in less than 5min without any background story told yet.
Of course, today nobody's able to play and transform himself into a character like Daniel Day-Lewis did in the past 20 years.
