@hinks11b The crosshair on the screen is not what the gunner uses to aim. That is showing the center of the screen of the FLIR. Once you go through the rigorous training that these men and women have then you can criticize, until then, have fun being an armchair quarterback...pathetic...
@mrdbld22 I actually went through infantry training, and I do know that no matter what weapon system you use, when you shoot once and your rounds are off from whatever aiming device you have, you then compensate. Furthermore you can here in the commanders voice who is guiding his rounds a bit of frustration why the gunner doesn't compensate... I bet you are some dude who just reads a lot of books and has never even gotten your boots dirty.
The FLIR can be used in almost all weather and zero light. If the rainfall was dense enough to impair the view, the aircraft probably wouldn't be out flying anyways. Dust and fog are bigger problems for the FLIR. The only way to get around infrared in the open terrain is to make yourself the exact same temp as your surroundings and hold perfectly still.
After the permission to fire, 201 rounds were used from the helicopter with the cam recording plus numerous from the other choppers.... all to kill a grand total of 5 men. Why not use one missile and call it a night?

They had positive ID on who they were, and they were hiding. However, the enemy can be stupid and don't realize we see heat sigs under tarps, etc. Inaccurate? not really. These guys zoom in tremendously, much to compensate for, alt, windage, etc.

some of the flir cams were mounted too close to the fcc and it caused feedback
