Not sure where your information comes from, but NOAA has made no such statement. You can read the current forecast for this solar cycle at swpc[dot]noaa[dot]gov[slash]SolarCycle. Did 700 nuclear reactors melt down 11 years ago? What about 11 years before that? Or before that? If not, why not? We have a solar maximum roughly every 11 years. There is no expectation of "massive solar flares." In fact, the current cycle is expected to be weaker than average.

No, they don't. Solar storms aren't predicted. The earliest forecasts for Solar Cycles 24 called for heightened activity, but that has since been revised. Calling for a period of high or low activity and offering general precautionary statements are not equivalent to predicting any specific event. Of course, we won't know for sure what this cycles holds until it's over, as it always the case.

You can say, "We expect X hurricanes this year," but you haven't predicted any one storm.

The Magentoshpere seems to have some gaping holes in it and north pole and south pole are moving. What would happen if one of these solar erutions occurred while our magnetosphere is down? That's what shields us from most the harmful stuff that would fry us normally.
Holes in the magnetosphere routinely come and go. These are transient events. A poorly-timed burst of particles can "load" the upper atmosphere and perhaps cause a subsequent geomagnetic storm to be stronger than it would have been otherwise. There's also the SAA, where our magnetic field is weakest, and this is just a geometric consequence of how the earth works. The magnetosphere is never "down," and nothing will "fry us."

Please note that we aren't really seeing anything on our planet right now that is horrible outside of historical averages, in terms of natural disasters and what not. What we do see is a global population that is bigger than ever, a growing ability of scientists to monitor Earth and beyond, and a level of technology that allows near-instant communication about quite literally everything.

Not a joke, but not a fact either. NASA has issues warnings about preparing power grids and telecom systems for geomagnetic storms, however, as is just sensible in an electronic age. Most worst-cast scenario reports assume zero warning and no preparation, which simply doesn't describe our civilization. NASA never said that a geomagnetic event will "kill billions." We've already had multiple storms this year alone! Current forecasts put the next max at below average.

No. Kaku neglected to consider that nearly all satellites are hardened against solar radiation and can be powered down, and power grids are incredibly resilient and reparable. Our degree of forewarning is unprecedented thanks to a fleet of sun-gazing satellites.

According to (NOAA), massive solar flares are expected in the next two years that could disable electrical grids worldwide – and that could put over 700 nuclear reactors in jeopardy of meltdown. That's because they are cooled by systems that need an outside source of electricity; so, if the grid goes down, and if auxiliary generators fail, so will the cooling systems.Why does this matter? Not sure where your information comes from, but NOAA has made no such statement. You can read the current forecast for this solar cycle at swpc[dot]noaa[dot]gov[slash]SolarCycle. Did 700 nuclear reactors melt down 11 years ago? What about 11 years before that? Or before that? If not, why not? We have a solar maximum roughly every 11 years. There is no expectation of "massive solar flares." In fact, the current cycle is expected to be weaker than average.

Again, I'm curious as to where you supposedly got this information, and I speculate with some degree of confidence that it didn't come form NOAA, NASA or any entity remotely qualified to make such announcements. NOAA in particular says no such thing.
There was an NAP report published several years ago that describes a worst-case Carrington-scale event, but it assumes no preparation or forewarning, neither of which describes first-world infrastructure.

No, they don't. Solar storms aren't predicted. The earliest forecasts for Solar Cycles 24 called for heightened activity, but that has since been revised. Calling for a period of high or low activity and offering general precautionary statements are not equivalent to predicting any specific event. Of course, we won't know for sure what this cycles holds until it's over, as it always the case.

The NASA readiness program has nothing to do with any particular event or expectation, except the expectation that emergencies happen and it's a good idea to know what to do during one. This was the culmination of a long-running federal initiative to make sure there isn't a repeat of the hysteria and chaos that followed Hurricane Katrina.

You can say, "We expect X hurricanes this year," but you haven't predicted any one storm.

The Magentoshpere seems to have some gaping holes in it and north pole and south pole are moving. What would happen if one of these solar erutions occurred while our magnetosphere is down? That's what shields us from most the harmful stuff that would fry us normally.

Holes in the magnetosphere routinely come and go. These are transient events. A poorly-timed burst of particles can "load" the upper atmosphere and perhaps cause a subsequent geomagnetic storm to be stronger than it would have been otherwise. There's also the SAA, where our magnetic field is weakest, and this is just a geometric consequence of how the earth works. The magnetosphere is never "down," and nothing will "fry us."
The geomagnetic poles always move, always have.

You base your arguments about 2012 only on sun events. My point is that there are many people in the world who feel 2012 as a cosmic conciousness event in wich our sun takes an important role but also the earth, and moreover, ourselves. It is already proven in physics that mind controls matter and human psique forms a matrix that changes when we deeply rise our knowledge level. 2012 could be a change in that matrix as we develop in conciousness.

There's the South Atlantic Anomaly, which is simply the point where the inner magnetic belt is closest to the planet's surface. Yes, solar particles have a sort of "backdoor" in this regard, and this ain't new. Then there's the breach discovered by THEMIS in 2007, which was a transient event, and we now know this shifting is routine.

Not a joke, but not a fact either. NASA has issues warnings about preparing power grids and telecom systems for geomagnetic storms, however, as is just sensible in an electronic age. Most worst-cast scenario reports assume zero warning and no preparation, which simply doesn't describe our civilization. NASA never said that a geomagnetic event will "kill billions." We've already had multiple storms this year alone! Current forecasts put the next max at below average.

No, it is not a fact. You don't know what a fact is, clearly. What NASA says is that a Carrington-caliber event with zero forewarning and preparation could have serious consequences for some telecom and power grids. While such an occurrence could indeed cause problems across some regions of the planet, the worst case reports do not describe the developed the world. No. Kaku neglected to consider that nearly all satellites are hardened against solar radiation and can be powered down, and power grids are incredibly resilient and reparable. Our degree of forewarning is unprecedented thanks to a fleet of sun-gazing satellites.
Of course, we are by no means immune to space weather-related problems. I recommend looking up the 7/26/2012 podcast of "Just Another Day" at Astronomy[dot]FM. Ian O'Neill, heliophysicist, is interviewed.

@LibertyIsNotGiven That's what I was wondering. I wish I would've went toward physics/astronomy in college rather than biochem and later to health...physics and astronomy are exciting topics. Maybe I'll go back for an M.S. (or even a second b.s.) in a related subject during my free time, but in the meantime I love hearing from physicists and astronomers. Keep up the good work, I especially enjoyed your argument against Bible followers who assert that the disciples wouldn't have died for a lie

@ValleyViper81 What reason would I have NOT to believe in a supreme being? Give me a realistic, grown-up answer and I'll consider your arguments seriously. Don't give me that line, "Because I KNOW God doesn't exist, just trust me..." I mean, that would be endorsing the same blind faith that religions pressure their followers into, the same that tried to suppress any contradictory thinking during the Dark Ages. You don't see a resemblance? And you don't see where that left religion?

@ValleyViper81 and don't give that line, "Because science is so successful" or something related to that. Science is not a system bent on disproving God (which cannot be disproven). It is used for the purpose of knowing our universe. and don't use that other argument either "If God exists, there would be no suffering" because that is merely opinion and not fact. Give me real sensible arguments...enlighten me! :)

Funny you should mention the Bible, as reading it in a critical manner is possibly one of the most effective cures for the cognitive shortcoming known as god-belief.
I'm not sure what kind of iceberg you think any particular solar flare is the tip of, since solar flares and coronal mass ejections have been staples of the Sun-Earth system for billions of years, and are routine occurrences.

Conspiracy theory, doomsday theory, what's the difference. You are both nuts. Southern hemisphere stone calendar: they couldn't fit anything else on that thing. They ran out of room at 2012. This guy actually makes sense and supports his claim with historical data. No one is saying that things won't one day come to an end. Your theory is a guess. There is no stone calendar that says 2012 and then the earth explodes. the calendar that most people have hanging on their walls ends in December. It

I study sciences! you say that nothing is going to happen inbetween now & may 2013 to cause worry! then you say these can happen without warning at any time! so what you are actually saying is you cannot predict these events but you can predict that it wont happen in 2012! thats not science or proof just you contradicting yourself! in 1918 telegraph poles burnt & australia had biggest cyclone! solar maximum soon & australia had cyclone! coincidence? I dont believe any other doomsday crap!

I don't recall stating that "nothing is going to happen." Maybe you'd like to point out where exactly I did that. In fact, the chances of severe solar weather should continue to go up over the next couple of years.
Cyclone George hammered Australia in 2007, while the Sun was plunging into a deep minimum. Severe weather routinely happens in the absence of solar agitation.
Careful with your accusations, padawan, and consider cutting back on your use of exclamation marks.

2) There are conspiracy "theories" regarding 2012. If you want to divide the proponents into conspiracy theorists and doomsayers, that's your prerogative. At the very least, there is much overlap between the two.
3) I don't have to invoke conspiracies for weather predictions, because I have a window. I have several windows, actually, and a couple of doors.

It is Doomsday theorists... and it is completely different from Conspiracy theorists. Some may mix the 2 together because they failed miserably in Critical Thinking 101... but they are seperate. I want you to use the term correctly because "Conspiracy" Theorists can be wack jobs or it can be CIA Intel. The CIA theorizes nations are conspiring one another all the time.

But 2012 has been mentioned by many people and tribes, including the mayans and the hopie. And theres alot of info and puzzle pieces that are starting to fit together supporting 2012. For instance, this solar storm. Also, the poleshift has been confirmed. Start researching

2012 was not mentioned by anyone, except for the end of a Meso-American baktun possibly correlating with December 2012, per our Gregorian calendar. The Hopi "prophecies" are products of the 20th Century and do not mention 2012.
Name one "puzzle [piece]" that supports 2012 doomsayers.
No "pole shift" has been confirmed by anyone. Even if we're in the middle of one, nobody will know for hundreds of years. The magnetic poles wander constantly. YOU should start researching.

How does the recently discovered charged particle ribbon effect the sun's cycle? I like your approach LibertyisNotgive but you have the same problem as the people over at SOHO, NASA and etc... you have no idea how to factor in all the variables to spaceweather to know how/if documented activity changes due to these variables.
