hmm.. FA50/1.4 is much faster.. this implementation of SDM is disappointing

The travel time is faster than the much praised DA* 50-135, however.

well.. I believe, that it brings no big problem in real situation. They obviously focused on precision (needed at F1.4-F2.8) rather than on sped... but for example sigma's HSMII on 70-200 is another level.. user can switch from nearest to infinity very quickly and still its accurate.

My old SMC-M 50 f/1.7 has a long focus throw, which allows for precise manual focusing and is useful when shooting wide open. Perhaps, the long throw makes this lens's AF slower, than say DA 17-70 SDM which has a 45 degree focus throw and is not as MF friendly. Also, my DA 40 has a rather short focus throw and is famous for having fast AF.
