  • @c2daj2dat: The version of this song with vocals (titled "Am I the Same Girl") was recorded by American R&B singer Barbara Acklin in 1968, British pop & soul singer Dusty Springfield in 1969 and the British pop duo Swing Out Sister (featuring lead singer Corinne Drewery) in 1992. In fact, the 1969 instrumental top 5 pop hit single version (titled "Soulful Strut" and posted here) was actually the Barbara Acklin record with all vocals removed and replaced by a piano solo played by Floyd Morris.

  • @sliv812 Thanks for the info! I was trying to find out who sang the vocal version of this.

  • ANYONE KNOW THE NAME OF THE FONT @ 1:49?????

  • @erinl400 Apparently it is Edward Benguiat’s design.

a special version of Benguiat Charisma especially for the Super Fly movie

  • Wow! This takes me *all the way back*--to when I was about 2 or so. Perfectly happy, safe, the world was fun and full of wonder, good times and joy. My Mom, all my grandparents, a couple of great-grandparents, all my cousins-young and old-everybody was still around, and I didn't yet know that things would one day change. A magical time! Lovely memories! Thank you!! :)

  • Can't beat this type of '60s recording...so deceptively simple, but hits all the right spots....it strongly captures a feeling and mood, it becomes part of you, and will sound great forever.

  • Ah! The good ol' days. Red high heals and mini dress swaying like a branch in the breeze..the evolution of soulful strutting. What a fabulous period song. Long live the 60's

  • Young Holt Unlimited-'Am I The Same Girl'.........I too, do love this song!

  • This song always reminds me of AFRTS breaks during the Nam thing. Great song some good and bad memories.

  • This is the music they should play behind Egypt's revolution or any revolution for that matter.

  • Was this song not in the movie the Parent trap?

  • I ALWAYS LOVED THIS SONG, NEVER KNEW WHO THE ARTISTS WERE FOUND OUT ABOUT 6 MONTHS AGO, ITS ON ALL MY PLAYLISTS!

  • I remeber this from 6th grade (1968). We used it in a school play. It took me years to find it because I didn't know who recorded it. One day a friend of a friend and I was discussing music we enjoyed back in the day. This song came up. All I had to do was hum a few notes and he told me the title and artist. Its been on all of my playlists every since. As everyone always says about great music--"they don't make 'em like they used to".

  • @FAYDOLYN

Forty years from now, who will today's youth have this same nostalgic feeling about?

  • parent rap handshake music :D xx

  • Always loved this wonderful piece of music. To me it's about life in all its perplexing complexity...beautiful...so moving & bittersweet.

  • I want to express something RE this wonderful piece of music that I've always loved, but where to begin. It has such an ineffable, wispy, moving quality that I'm having trouble finding the right words...to me it's about life..in all its ups & downs...its beauty & pain...its darkness & light...again--INEFFABLE...words fail me.

  • @suzyrokits

    Whew...I soooooooo feel you!!

  • RVCA

  • I always loved this song and then heard the vocals with it by Barbara Acklin and it was just as good...brings me back...way back

  • HOLT died in 2005.

  • This was played in The Parent Trap whenever Annie and her butler did the handshake. :D

  • @TheLeha91 I was just to post something about that on here. Its sad to say that me and one of my friends had that handshake down pat when that movie came out.

  • @TheLeha91 gettin me all sad n shit... I MISS BEIN A CHILD

  • I heard this song play on the radio for several years, and always wanted to know what it was. I asked everyone. They thought I was crazy cause its "crappy elevator music...." Whatever, this is the hottest groove on the planet. I finally found out what it was, and my life is better!

  • I can remember hearing this song WAAAAAAAAAAAAAY back in the days of my youth when I was a little boy playing outside. There was a record shop up the street on Broadway in South Central LA(Haleys - Broadway & 48th Street for all those in the know)& I would hear this song blasting playing off in the distance. So cool to hear it after all these years. Still as soulful as ever. Kudos.

  • I remember goin' through my mother's 45 collection and playin' this song. It just grabbed ahold of me and helped me to pull out the inner music in me.. and i never looked back since. This is real soul music!! I'm 33 now and I still feel like jumpin' up and groovin' when i hear this song!! I luv it!!

  • @123laflin haha, lucky your mom knew! for about ten years i hummed and dadada'd my way through this song to every person over 40 i knew and they all recognized the tune, but nobody knew who or what it was. i guess i should thank whoever's listening that joss stone sampled it or i'd have never found the name of my elusive favorite instrumental ever.

mom was pretty thrilled when i found it though. :)

  • @love1973ify -- so true! This song is classic. First recorded by Barbara Acklin as Am I The Same Girl in 1968, then with her vocals removed and the same music track we have the renamed Soulful Strut. Ta Da! So many people have covered this song, but when Swing Out Sister covered in it 1992, wow, it breathed new life into the song. Such great music!!

  • The drummers "right foot" and the bass player locked in in that tight rhythm..........!

I cannot find any groove to a half-ass drum machine and a elementary disco bump either In other words, i like my music performed by a human on a real music instrument; I've no beef with synthesizers either as long as you don't try to imitate atrumpet or other music instruments. Synths' give off good vibes in a gazillion other ways.

This song has that Funk groove that i crave!

  • omg the parent trap handshake soundtrack! i finally found it!

  • Beautiful song for just relaxing and listening to.

  • Mike D's in love...

  • I would go back to high school in a minnit if it meant I could hear this song performed live once again! ♥

  • THE HANDSHAKE SONG!

  • @malosote1 you need to get off this page and go listen to today's stuff like lady ga ga maybe more your speed or maybe beyonce leave the real music to grown folks

  • @TheStrawbeery i listen to real music: ROCK, no background music like this.

you need to open your old eyes and realize that not all music is this boring shit or today's mainstream music.

  • @malosote1 yeah the difference between me and you you like music i love music you like one kind of music i listen to soft rock ,jazz,, rock and roll, disco, r&B and old school rap. you just like 1 kind of music now that's boring, i don't listen to things with satanic messages in them like rock

  • @TheStrawbeery "satanic messages" jajajjajjajaajajjajajajajajajajaajajajajajajajajajajajajajajajajajajajajajjajajajajajajajajajajajajajajjajajajajajajajajajajajajajajjaajajjaajjajajajajajajajajajjajajajjajajajaja....btw you don't even know me, you can't say i only like rock, it's my favorite music but i also listen to reggae, metal, trance, ska, hip hop, and many other you don´t even heard about....this is my last coment so...bye grandpa
