The true legacy of the games will only be known once the CCP falls: transmission610 - watch it! It is not 'anti-China' to be anti the communist party. It is actually pro-china to support freedom for its people.
It was a win /win/win/win situation for china. They got a hell of a bump from it. They were smart to do it and do it BIG. They got the modernization for the infrastructure in the process. Hell they OWN the US now anyway.. The republicans sold us out lock, stock & barrel.
china is still investing money in the inland provinces that was hu jintao Regional development plan to make those province catch up to the weathier provinces china can afford to spend
well ,they even caused a major earthquake all to paralyze China and leave it unable to handle the olympics. But they withstood and well done. China is the world's next superpower.
what ever the Games were in China, we will never see the likes of anything like that scale again. What country will ever spend even half the budget they did. Good luck London. Whatever they end up doing it will look like the poor step sister.
London planned to spend $6 Billion and has ballooned to $17 Billion. I think the London Olympics will have more side stories (e.g. where the athletes in Britain grew up, train, etc.) becuase the press will be more free.

$48 billion divide by 1.3 billion people comes down to about $0.12 cent a day per person.

Let China keep the award for most money spend on a spectacle. Maybe the Olympics will regain a bit of its values next time around.
