The appeal is that the form required for the moves are legit. VF is in the same boat or even better, but Tekken beats it solely on style points. I like VF, but it lacks flare in it's presentation. Honestly, Tekken is like a 3D version of KoF to me, and I like KoF because it had style.

YES BLazblu is the BEST fighter to date in my opinion. First they have special intros in fights. They say different things to different apponents DURING the fight. the only broken char in my opinion is Hakumen(score attack raises fist angerly). They all fight 100 % different. Great voice actors american and japanese. A story line that can change multiple times, and so much comedy. Plus the online is SEAMLESS.
Based off gameplay alone I would put Virtua fighter at number one. But based off everything in whole I would put streetfighter first and mortal kombat second, even though mortal kombat is my favorite. The latest mortal kombat is better than streetfighter four though. But because the past mortal kombat games have been downright horrible Ill put it as number 2. Tekken third because its as if they just fell ooff hard after tekken 4. Tekkne five was garbage. I havent played nubmer 6 yet.

@splendid1000 well, obviously, some moves are quite ridiculous, but overall, this stays fairly true to real martial arts. Of course you wouldn't do combos like that usually in real life, but the punches, kicks and whatnot are quite like in real martial arts, just not used the same.
But hush now, it's only my opinion, I absolutely love Street Fighter, Soul Calibur and every other game on this list too.

Games like Tekken, Sould Calibur, DOA and Virtua Fighter are NOT realistic. They are slow and unresponsive. It feels choregraphed !!! Games like Street Fighter, Samaraui Showdown, Killer Instinct, Guilty Gears are the best. Fast and fun. Mortal Kombat was awesome until they started making the slow 3d ones like Deadly Allliance. Luckily MK9 is faster.

Def Jam: Fight for NY is one of the best fighting games around. That should make the top 10 list. And no Dead or Alive? Either of the these 2 games could have replaced Samurai Showdown 2.

Well... IMO the most importants are 1) Tekken 2) Street fighter (but I don't like it very much) 3) Soul calibur 4) Virtua fighter 5) Dead or alive (4 and 5 in draw), 6 Smash bros ^^ , 7 Mortal combat, The rest I don't mind)...
There were a game.. The bounce...that were a nice game ^^

I really just hate games like Tekken and Soul Calibur. So slow and unresponsive.

@MALDASF STFU fanboy. SF isn't the king and hasn't been since 1997, its only the most popular in the US, KOF is the better 2D fighter. And no, you don't see VF over Tekken in every website (as if that matters). VF is awesome but overrated by scrubs, face reality dude. Its has easier juggles, combos, movement, oki, etc. Everyone that plays fighters on pro level knows that Tekken aint noob friendly at all, in fact its the hardest along with Guilty Gear.

@wrestletube1 I never said that to be on this list the game had to just 1 on 1. It's a fighting game, therefore it counts. I'd have to take Marvel vs. Capcom out of the list as well since one of the series most prominent feature is the tag team fights. Besides, there's nothing preventing people from having 1 on1 fights in Smash Bros.
