Damn those DO sound good. Really nice playing too. That definitely helps. I'm surprised Yamaha didn't put out some kind of PHX snare. If they're working on that I'd love to find out more.
what kind of snare drum does he have anyone know for sure if so thanks very much for letting me know because i'm really liken the sound of that snare drum
i dont get why people spend their money on such a expensive drum set when you can get almost the exact or even better sound with another nice kit, i prefer yamaha rock tour custom, from where i see it mine sounds way better, but i think its because of the tuning
Thanks for post this video. I am impressed for your great talent more than the "new" yamaha phx. Honestly, I think that you would have cymbals according to your level and the rest of the drum. Its only my opinion. Greetings from Spain
Great playing man! But do you always play emperors on toms ? I always like thinner heads to test beautiful shells so you get the best results of the shell. Not that i don't like the sound , but have you tried ambassodors?
The Oak is an amazing sounding kit wich has a class on it own just like the Maple/Birch custom and Recording custom and PHX. All high level kits wich have theire own unique style.
This PHX is a true beauty and you're playing is sweet.
Fantastic sounds! I consider my self an intermediate player, and I'm looking to upgrade my old Exports to a Yamaha Oak Custom. Does anyone have any experience with them?
Geez. These drums make DWs look cheap. I would buy them though if I had 10,000 dollars or however much. And you do play like Dave Weckl, and by that I mean awesomely.
Your experiences jibe with mine. The kit I played at PASIC was very sensitive at all dynamic levels, across the frequency spectrum. It seems like Yamaha is going after what Tempus and Brady offer in terms of sound output . All of them can sound bigger than they are, if appropriately stroked.
Nice drums. very nice. And nice playing mate - very clean. I can hear a touch of Weckl and Gadd in your style - Real nice playing. I own a set of Pearl Reference - and love them - But if I was in the market for a new kit today, it would most definitely be PHX. Awesome
Great kit, but I think a close mic setup would do a much better job of representing the sound of the kit. The sound is flat and dead with whatever mic is being used (camera mic?).
Man that middle tom is killllllin. I am forever battling with my middle tom sound and that is the sound I'm looking for...
Steve I like the way you explain how YOU want the drums to sound like - it makes sense. It's in real terms, not techincal gibberish. Love your playing as always bro. josh from South Africa.
i got turned off by yamaha oak customs... I recently bought a sonor delite kit... i know what you mean about "drums on steroids" nice kit brother..nice chops.. thx for posting
You should try acting less like Dave Weckl, and spend more time miking your drums to give us a better sounding demo. Anyway, very impressive drums indeed!
STEVE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!you are great drummer and teacher. Your dvd shed some light is GREAT.Dvd helps to understand progressive patterns in todays drumming.THANK YOU.and keep rockin.
Really great sounding drums and ofcourse your playing is OVER THE TOP. Couple things I found interesting that are beside the point here; My A customs are warpy too! And are those sugar maple blazers? I'm currently using them and I really love them...although they feel quite slick in my hand...nothing a little gorrilla snot doesn't cure though! =) Thanks for the great upload.
The cymbal above your hi-hat appears to have a few holes drilled into it. Do you have some sort of "preparation" on that thing? Screws and bolts in there, or something?
You're awesome Steve ! Fluid, powerful, a lot of dynamics ... wow ! It would be great to hear those drums invidually miced. Continue to post great videos !! You rule !
Nice set...although you could make a $49.00 "Cool Beat Elmo" kit rock. Are those the factory heads, or the Emperors? I like the warmth of the hybrid wood shells. Great job!
Wow, those drums sure sound sweet. They're easily my #1 "dream kit" atm! Great playing also Steve. It's always great to see the drums being played in such a musical way like this. Drum lessons plz ^_^
