I have one of these also a 50cc but the 2001 model. I've stripped it all down and I'm in the process of fixing it up. My father brought it eight years ago and decided I could have it. It's had anti-rust paint on the frame but the exhaust has gone too far and needs a new one to pass it's MOT. Good bike though ran on expensive good quality oil all of it's life and fires up first kick.
Im talking about MPH not the Km you use over there in the UK, This scoot was a 50cc , some over there are a 125, wish we had those here, but none here in the US. Plus I am a big guy at the time I ran 55mph, I was 270 pounds, so 55 was a good leap from the original 32 mph.
I actually unhooked the oil injection adding my oil premixed through my gas tank so no worries, I have done a bit of upgradeing since this video running a 19mm carb plus open air intake, also a 98 main jet as well, I also put a raceing torsion spring in the clutch, doing that brought my bottom end power back with more tork. The only thing I might do from here is maybe install lighter roller weights for even more bottom end . But runs real strong at this time as it is.
Well they say a bigger carb adds some hp, but it hurts the bottom end , but that can be offset by putting some tighter springs in the clutch and going lighter with your roller weights, I didnt really notice a big change in my wheelie power if anything its improved and I am running 7.2 gram roller weights that came stock in my malossi multivar 2000. But I have been told I should go lighter may try 5 gram. It might hurt the top end though, but as long as I can peg 50mph its all good.
@w8tlftr4u don't worry, wont hurt your top end. Theres a limit to how much the cvt can make the belt stretch and with a stock engine you'll need 7-8g rollers but with a better engine and a tuned exhaust you'll probs make it with 4-5g rollers ^_^. I've seen somebody with a 2fast kit use 1g rollers :P. That scoot was a beast.
Well you must have the 125cc, there's no such thing as a 50cc stock scooter going 60mph haha. I have improved it alot since this video putting a bigger carb , open air filter and a raceing torq spring. But without changeing the gearing I can't get past 55mph although I have alot more take off power now and power in general. Take in mind I am 260 pounds, so if a small guy drove my Piaggio I am sure it would get around 60.
i dont get if you are 260 pounds nothing wrong with that your choice that you would choose a typhoon iv driven them a few times and its an extremely light bike would you not have been better off getting a cruiser and doing that up? youd get alot more speed and be comfortable
Well I got a deal on it and there were several reason's I bought this scooter to work on, Piaggio is the mother company of vespa so it's pure quality, also here in the states piaggio doesn't send 2 strokes here anymore becauise of emmissions etc, plus it is far better than the Zuma with the same changes I have done to date. I didn't buy it new so It wasnt like I was in a postion to just buy anything I wanted , instead it was more like a project that became a hobby for me . Runs real great now
I have a 06 Triton that I put a MRP 48mm kit on with stock 15mm carb using a 110 jet with a uni filter on it along with there stock style performance pipe hollowed out and I am 235lb and if I lean down on a straight I can do 61mph gps verified and setting up about 58mph gps verified.
Im happy with it. Keep up the good work! I like your scooter alot!
Well sure but not brand new they stopped sending 2 stroke scooters here after 2006, but I have seen some really good deals on a few Piaggio typhoons , I paid 1400 for mine but know others that paid 1000 or even less.
Well I did, but if your referring to an open air filter yes I would like to do that maybe putting a bigger carb in at the same time, but not real excited about figureing the right main jet for that set up being setting what I have took many jet changes to get perfect, theres no need to be rude guy if you have a better plan just tell me dont be hatein.
that is the best answer ive ever heard to a rude komment, but anyways look at my video, i rekoment a 84 main jet with a 17.5 carb, and get a Airsal T6 70cc Racing cylinder
sry for my english(i am from germany ) but i am a scooter tuner and in germany littel kids with 15 years run faster with their scoot as you ... maybe you should do more :)
alright mate.. I think you should change that pipe...to like a leo vince zx or tt... It will run MUCH better also think about stiffer clutch springs so that the clutch ingages later...also think about getting a 21mm carb with a sports air filter... and watch it go ;)
Yes perhaps your right about the pipe, I had a UK buddy of mine tell me I should have put a Giall??? I cant remember the name of it, but have it in an e-mail, I did put tighter springs in the clutch but kept the 17.5 mm carb putting a 72 jet in. Most have told me not to go to a 21mm carb I am currious how that works out, and what size jet would be used in that. I changed the reeds, also put a malossi sports filter sponge replacment as well.Anyway thanks for checking out my video.
I am glad I bought this scoot, is very easy to work on very user friendly, I did however have to ask alot of questions to guys in the UK who have the same scooter , being there just are not that many here in the US.Your scooter is off the hook, really impressive!
