I saw the Gene Clark led band....billed as The Byrds at Knotts Berry Farm in 85...They were on the bill with Mamas and Papas..Grass Roots and Three Dog Night...The Byrds were the best but played on the smallest stage of the four bands who were spread around Knotts at different stages..Blondie Chaplin and Nicky Hopkins were both in the band....seems like maybe 50 people were watching them it was the middle of the day and I think they had to play a few times that day..wish i could remember more.
I saw these guys in '85 in Lauderdale. It was a awesome "concert". Isn't that Rick Danko on bass & Mike Clarke on drums? They did a bunch of Byrds songs from the first album. They played better than the 2nd Byrds line up I saw in '72 in Tampa (Roger & all the "new" guys). It was at a bar & what a surprize! It was like a time machine ('65 in '85). Thanks Gene & Mike!
was this done in nashville tennessee may 7 1985 i was at that show Gene was wearing white jeans and boots there i partied with him and rick and john that nite
The irony is that I think this is absolutely brilliant, which is why I said it's "white people soul" (a compliment if anything is) and used the word "but" to distinguish between mainstream "country" dogshit, and genius like this.
Though even if I *were* insulting it your response would've been way a bit puerile. You're wrapped too tight for living, brah -- and, really, doesn't Gene deserve better than that?
Sorry if I offended you. Funny thing is that I misunderstood ALL of your message.
By parts: "white people soul" ; usually when the adjective white used before a musical genre (blues, jazz, hip-hop) to diminish the white men's performance as opposed top their black counterparts and is used by narrow-minded uptight people.
As for "makes my soul bleed." I'm finding it hard to see it as a compliment, but OK.
Youtube is not a place for subtleties and double meanings, so next time be more clear.

I love the energy of this band. Clark's vocal seems to be channeling John Prine in this version. What a terrific post.

This is a great rendition and if I do a country rock album I put this song on it.

Yeah this is a great version. Only other version is on the Byrds Reunion album.

There is another unforgettable version on Gene's Roadmaster album, can be found on YouTube as Full Circle Song (1973)

This is worth it just for Gene Clark, but the other guys really are excellent, too.

I find the last bit of that particularly ironic as Gene's lyrics were full of subtlties and double meanings ;)

White people soul. Mainstream country makes my ears hemorrhage, but this makes my soul bleed.
