  • @fmmgl fuck!

  • what I'd like to know is the logic and reason for the frets being that way.

  • @JohnFHebert I've seen guitars made with frets like that and the reason for THEM is when you play chords for example an A chord it will ring true whereas the frets on a regular guitar playing the same A chord are slightly off tuned. Hope that makes sense lol. I would GUESS that it's the same reason that bass is like that.

  • @JohnFHebert Number one thing that comes to mind is the ergonomics.

Allows a more natural wrist movement on each end of the neck, instead of forcing your wrist to keep straight.

I played on one a while ago, and while strange at first, it became a LOT easier, REAL FAST.

Super natural! I mean, after just a half hour with it, my basses felt obsolete and awkward feeling.

  • @JohnFHebert The reason is to keep the string tension even between strings. Ever notice how the higher strings feel tighter than the lowers on a bass with standard frets? With fanned frets, the lower strings have a longer scale length than the higer strings.

  • @JohnFHebert The lower the note being played, the better they sound as scale length gets longer. It keeps a balanced tone across the fretboard

  • Damn, I forgot to check out the music shops of Paris when I was there... I did manage to find some shops when I was in Madrid, Spain, but those bastards would NOT let me touch anything without a proof of income! I thought they would at least let me play something because I look like a Spaniard...

  • THAT is a wild looking Bass! Where are they made?

  • @Tdonn25 canada!

  • 0:07 can you teach us how to do that kind of vibrato?

  • what a weird looking fret.....does it confortable?

  • That Drop D sounds clear. Unfortunately, my bass has a muddy sound when I do it. Maybe because it's cheap. But I like the sleek look it has.

  • How much "getting used to" do the frets take?

Seems like they were going for an ergonomic design, but it also seems quite odd.

  • what's it like to play with those frets?

  • @banny998 I got my first dingwall a couple of days ago. 3 minutes to get used to fanned fred systems. I'm playing faster than on a normal bass now

  • those frets look irratating

  • I dont like the bridge and pickup at that angle. Looks weird.

  • used to be like, i just changed my taste towards dingwall 2 weeks ago :)

  • That farty bridge pickup sound has been on

the Fender Jazz before Jaco ever picked up a

bass. I hate when that sound is allways associated with Jaco, like it's somehow forbidden

    territory. Anyway .... :)

  • I feel the same way but though not as strongly, lol. I get why the Jaco association is there, it's because he was the first one to really go for the sound. Not many, if any made that their "signature" (so to speak) at or before that time. I but I do hate how just because of that sound so many people will assume that someone is trying to be Jaco. The sound doesn't make the player the player makes the sound. Will & Jaco have totally different styles so the comparison shouldnt even be brought up

  • I couldn't stop looking at the fretboard... wth?

  • what rig is this on?!! it sounds great

  • Hate that farty sound, and how everyone wants to sound like Jaco. Jaco was a legend, but I also wouldn't want to sound like him, I'd want to learn from him and innovate and not be just another clone.

  • Jaco slap? You 're completly crazy! LOL!

  • Did I say Jaco slapped? I know you are slapping. What I should of said was, when people use a jazz bass, or when people develope their sounds they are always going for that farty jazz bridge sound. You sound good, but I hope when you play with fingers it doesn't sound farty...lol

  • You see, I watched the video again, and you are playing near the bridge, and you are going for the fart sound.

  • Yes and if I play on the neck pickups I will take the marcus miller sound....... no solution Bro, I will stop to play bass and play video game now;)

  • willkarling you should try the dimarzio model one pick up in the neck.

  • On my dingwall super J?

  • No I actually built my own bass, and I have a dimarzio model one in the neck, and seymour duncan quarters pounders in the precision area, but I have no bridge pick up because I really am not a fan of that fart sound

  • whats the amp you did use?

  • the MB you see behind me!

  • thank you!!!

  • I see where you're coming from but I think more people want his sound as opposed to sounding like him. I personally love the tone he got and try to approximate it as best I can't but the way I play is totally different. I think that's the case for most people.

  • Thatguy301 these days it's hard to find that right sound that cuts through everything. Billy Sheehan got an original sound, and so did Jaco, but after that it's hard to find it. Steve Harris has a great sound too. I think it all comes down to having your hands really developed. I have a Bongo bass that I am paying off, can't wait to get it. Sound unreal.

  • Wow the dingwall sounds even better than i expected !!

    Nice chops ; )
