And all in all she didn't win but due to Israel's resign the following edition took place in Netherlands and 80s - just like 70s - in ESC started there.
What a stupid comment of the German Commentator after Xandra's performance; she said yeahhh she doesnt look like a typical Dutch girl because she's born in Indonesia .. ..who cares? :p
The pink triangles are a pretty obvious giveaway dontcha think?.. The yellow ones, I think, are there to draw some attention away from her "coming out". As if she's saying "I'm a bit yellow about it but I'm gay".
But then again it might just have been a fashion statement. A design by Jos Brink perhaps... covered with "Kleine Kroepoekjes".
To answer your question, tasosk, those triangles on her outfit are the 1980's desperately trying to break free. They knew it was 1979. It was only a matter of time for them.
Excellent excellent song, if only eurovision was liike back in the good old days, we wouldnt see the kind off coruption and farce that it has become now .
Sandra is part of the Indonesian community in the Netherlands, which is the result of the fact that until 1949 Indonesia was a duth colony (Dutch-Indies).
Reemer is a Dutch name. She is of mixed blood. In colonial times Indonesia had a big "Dutch' Eurasian community called the Indo Europeans also known as the 'Indische Nederlanders' (in Dutch)
Most of them came to Holland or USA,etc. Usually they call themselves Dutch Eurasians from Indonesia or Indische Nederlanders(in Dutch) and not Indonesians.
If you mean what's literally on her dress, it's just plastic triangles pinned into it with each corner. A really good rock number about starting a new, rugged and exciting life. My fave of Sandra's entries, though, is 'Als het om de liefde gaat' from ´'72.
A really nice rock song! Not the best from The Netherlands, but very nice. It's about the joys you will find in America, therefor it's called "Colorado". I think the triangular objects on Xandra's dress (The dress was awful BTW) is suppossed to be mountains! :-P The state Colorado have alot of mountains you see! :-)
@Mangoteppe Her whole look, including the triangles and their colors (not to mention her shoes), is very 1980s... which means that Xandra was ahead of her time :-)
Cool. A song about my home state!

Like Sandra, I'm Indonesian, and my dad went to college in Boulder, Colorado. So I think I'm actually meant to know this song.

Zij heette niet "ineens" Xandra; die naam kreeg zij bij haar geboorte. Van de nonnen op school moest zij Sandra heten omdat de X duivels zou zijn ...

Now that I think about it, the guys behind her wore a few of those triangles too.

It's a nice song, but I can still understand, that it only reached 12th place.
Hmmm... Now I really wonder about those triangles on her dress.

Belgium is always underrated, that's what makes us Belgium.

This may really be the only song named after an USA state but the Portuguese participants in 1987 are named Nevada!

@majormarco
Not exactly.....Sandra belongs to the Dutch-Indonesian(Eurasian)community ( in Dutch: Indische Nederlanders of Indo-Europeanen)
There are more Eurasians of Indonesia in the Netherlands than real Indonesians.
Londo271 11 months ago
She is either part or fully Indonesian, there are a lot of Indonesians in Holland (Indonesia used too be a dutch colony)

This is for me the least likeable of Sandra's 3 entries, much prefer 76 followed by 72. dont think I even rated it top 10 in a strong year.
ESCsince1968 3 years ago
I have to admit this song has been growing on me. It's just a nice cheery rock entry.
And all of her entries in ESC were great. The '72, '76, and this one are all great. Hard to decide on which one is my faveourite :-)

I think her performance was better in the NSF . If she performed it the way she did in the NSF, she would have gotton a higher place.
