This guy is one of the best metal guitarists you can think of.I'm glad I bumped into his free online lessons.Imagine how much I would learn if I took lessons from him...Damn...
@drjakim YES!!!! metronome is a necessity!! dont cut corners, start at 5 bpm if you have to!! youre only hurting yourself if you cut corners in guitar
@CitySkateboards metronomes aren't an absolute necessity. They are very useful tools and everyone should try using one, but there are other methods which are just as helpful that may even be better depending on your learning style.
Once again - way to go Tom...you help keep the neoclassical genre exciting...you the best Ive heard since Theodore Ziras..except you seem to have slightly more feel than Theo
Hi Tom, do you have any lessons that I could look at that would help me with my alternate picking speed? It would be greatly appreciated if you could direct me to a lesson.
The whole goal is to develop your ear to match your playing level. Therefore, you can play anything you hear. If you can't hear it, it may be better off not trying to play it.
I AM PROUD AND GRATEFUL TO HAVE TOM AS A TEACHER.HE DEMONSTRATES, THEN I PRACTICE WHAT HE HAS GIVEN ME THEN I DEMONSTRATE BACK .TOM'S LESSONS ARE ALL INCORPORATED WITH IN A UNIQUE PHILOSOPHY....MY PROGRESS HAS AT LEAST TRIPLED IN THE 5 MONTHS tOM hESS HAS BEEN MY MENTOR....MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!!!!!!
alternate picking or directional? i've heard tom uses directional but i keep reading things about how it's "incorrect". i really like players like paul gilbert and the incredible playing of malmsteen and i think they use alternate.
Tom, I'm really very thankful for your very pragmatic way of explaining how to alternate pick properly, it has helped my technique tremendously simply by following your tips! :)
Seriously Tom after recently purchasing Opus 2, I have to say that Kingdoms is easily one of my favorite tracks! Through The Trials being another. Looking forward to Opus 3 and of course more lessons.
although i am a iron maiden style fan and like mostly blues-hard rock licks, this is my favourite style of playing. And now this man is my fav guitarist after yngwie and mab :D:D:D He is truly incredible.
I just signed up for your lessons by correspondence..hope they help me...loved your article on stage fright..going to the local gig soon to play crazy train by the late great randy rhoads and the article...I think helps with my stagefright issue..well not stage fright but just not wanting to screw up..but you put it best on your explanation of how to deal with those issues..glad I signed up ..looking forward to being a student
