  • Now i have to go buy a capo, it's about time i get on anyway.

  • Ah, so THAT'S how he plays it! Good tutorial.

  • You can actually hear the capo on the record, the tightness. all the other videos on the tube come close but you are the first i've seen that captured that great 60s stones sound in lesson. thanx for a great post man - H

  • Seriously, in like two minutes I was playing something recognizable (though not good!) your whole capo tip and walking up B string just made it click for me. Thanks!

  • VERY VERY GOOD!

  • PT, thanks again...you are the one I turn to to correct my own mistakes and those of others that I've adopted..

  • thanks for the vid! ive been butchering this song for 20 years! yes, capo! you dont get the chime without it!

  • THANKS DUDE....YOU GOT IT NICE!

  • That's great man! Thanks for taking the time.

  • thanks for uploading.... great lesson!!!

  • wow, great job! u got my totally psyced to try this now after hearing this song for 40 years and not having a clue where to start

  • Nailed it again, well done. I agree regarding the Capo and the fact Keith rarely plays anything on stage vs the studio version. Sometimes its better sometimes it turns into a different song and vibe, but still good.

  • Question ... What kind of Capo are you using? I've never seen one like it before. T.

  • The capo acts as the nut you nut!!

  • BAD ASS.

  • you are my personal hero you know???? regards from sunny cancun!!!!

  • @MDARIO2006 I'm nobody's hero. Just a guy with too much time on his hands. :)

  • Great job brah, everything sounds great...you just missed some minor volume swells at the very beginning, but otherwise, fantastic job -- especially the Capo @ II tip for the studio recorded version, thanks! Jimmy Z

  • thanks for all your help i love these open g lessons

  • Always wanted to learn this song. So much simpler than I ever imagined. Thanx

  • one of my fave tunes. thanks for the selfless work. you rock!

  • Hey thanks again! One of my all time favorites. Great job.

  • What are your amp settings? Great vid by the way

  • @p3t3rVL12 To be honest, I don't pay much attention to the amp settings. I fiddle with them until I like the sound. And there are plenty of people who watch my videos who will tell you (at least, they tell me all the time!) my tone sucks as a result. :)

  • Great lesson - thank you

  • sick amp

  • Excellent work! I've wanted to play this song correctly for over 35-years, but never took the time. Thanks for the great lesson.

  • Great job PT! You nailed it again. Please keep doing what you're doing. You inspire with your lessons. Keef would be proud!

  • damm thats good!!!!

  • Good lesson man. Almost all my Stones knowledge comes from your vids!

  • Great job. I would have killed for this kind of instruction when I was starting out. Kids today don't know how good they got it, haha

  • kick ass lesson bro! screw all the douchbags who dog you and others on here.they are guitar hero players.peace keep rocking

  • Your lessons are great. I have a desperate request for you. Jackson Browne "Nothing but Time" from Running on Empty. That song has special meaning, I'd be ever so greatful.

  • Good lesson!Thanks

  • I dont know if anyone has mentioned this already--but I've read interviews with Keith where he mentions that he plays certain Stones songs in different keys than the studio recordings--because Jagger's voice has changed over the years. And he finds it difficult to sing some of the older tunes in their original keys. So it's not just a random decision on Keith's part to change the songs. I think this is the point some people are missing. Thanks for posting these tunes!

  • Nice job but you are incorrect whenyou say that who ever doesn't use a capa is playing this wrong. I've been playing this song since the 70s without a capo. Yours is just another version that gets the job done. You can still do the hammer on/off using a bar up on the neck. BTW, If you look at some of the vids of the Stones doing Monkey Man, Keith does not use a capo. Still you got the riff down pretty good. Rare to see such a young man with good taste in music. Keep rockin'.

  • @150sevenmag Yes, Keith plays this without a capo when he does it onstage. But it was originally recorded with a capo. He does very few things onstage the same way he did them in the studio.

  • @privettricker Keith doesn't remember what he did ten minutes ago ...:)

and I'm confident he doesn't really care ... still sounds cool and keeps it fresh!

Outstanding cover BTW: great job, but one question, are you still married? and does she have a sister? My wife would kick my ass ... but I digress

  • you don't know the difference between A and C#?

  • @smellycat2009 1. Yes, I do know the difference. 2. I sense you're trying to make some kind of sarcastic insult, but you're going to have to be a little more specific. 3. You're one of those douchebags I keep hearing about, aren't you?

  • People with Epiphone's never show the name on the stock of the guitar. :-) I have one and I'm proud!

  • @smellycat2009 me too have sweet korina explorer loudest unplugged electric i have

  • capo on the 2nd is the way Keith did it during the Let it Bleed sessions. He used the black Les Paul with 3 pickups and the funky design on it for Midnight Rambler w/ capo @ the 7th and the same guitar w/capo @ the 2nd for Monkey Man.

  • Sorry but, if you search Monkey Man live videos, you'll see that Keef never uses a capo on that song. The chord you speak of with the hammer ons is done by barring the 2,3,4 strings at the 9th fret. He also hits an open low E many times when he plays that....cant do that with a capo. The two chords before the main riff are done in the same manner at the 2nd and then 4th frets.

  • @choppaluvntrav This is a lesson on the studio recording. Keith often plays things live differently than he recorded them in the studio.

  • Thanks! That was a cool lesson.

  • Great job......so nice of you to post this for everyone to learn and enjoy!!!

  • GRANDIOSO!!!

  • Thanks Priv, Great tuition as ever!!!

  • You can hear a few sour notes from the bottom strings on the chords in that other guy's lesson. Sounds much cleaner and more precise with the capo.

  • @erose999 Plus, if you know Keith's playing, he didn't do anything really acrobatic. The genius of Keith is that he used very simple licks to make things sound more complicated than they really are. If it was simplest to use a capo, Keith used a capo.

  • Really good job. Everything but the sweatshirt!

  • @richardbva Come over to the dark side!

  • Nice job man, right on the money!

  • that's so sweet. thank you so much. always loved this song and I know I can get this. I may not put my guitar down for a month.

  • I've tried that. But you'll definitely have to put your guitar down while you're driving.

  • You! You are good my friend! I would live to take a lesson from you.

  • what effecs are you using on the sound? I have an electric guitar, but only a cheap peice of shit for amp and i'm thinking of buying some effecs or pedals.

  • No effects except for occasionally a phase shifter. Otherwise, it's straight through a Marshall 50-watt half-stack.

  • ok, it's impossible for me to get that sharp sound you got but on my guitarr....

  • XLNT! Thank you.

  • Thanks! Now I'll be playing that song for the next few days!

  • Fantastic. Never give the guitar parts much thought in this one. Now I realise how good they are! Thanks very much!

  • thanks! great riff

  • Yeah, Keith could write great riffs even in standard tuning!

  • Great lesson! I've always loved that song.

  • thanks great lesson more stones
