My condolences to all the people hurt in this tragedy, my wishes also go out to the people who were expecting important packages ie ebay users etc. A very unfortunate incident.
@KnowJesusKnowPeace 747 UPS cargo crashed after failing to make radio contact with DXB and being diverted to Sharjah I believe after turning back near Bahrain who's ATC were still in contact as could not connect DXB..Major fire on board caused by Lithium batteries which were not listed within manifesto as per investigation. The captain had to leave the cockpit as smoke mask and oxygen failed, could nt see instruments terrible way to go! This is the UAE so camera crews dont just roll up and film.
I knew the First Officer on this flight and was lucky enough to have flown with Matt many times in FLL. Matt was great guy to fly with. He will be dearly miss. My condolences goes to the familes of two crews member.
God Bless the families left behind and as for the comments within this particular forum, I certainly hope those of you that spend your time "commenting" aren't a snapshot of the typical American because most I've read are written by illiterate morons, you're all just pathetic.
I knew the First Officer on this flight and was lucky enough to have flown with him many times. He leaves behind a wife and young daughter. Such a tragic loss. R.I.P. Matt.
Pilots did v well, friends of mine saw a plane v low near Silicon Oasis, all the usual gawpers I see stopping to look...Condolences to the family, looks like massive electrical fire, echoes of Swiss Air. I live in Dubai and this is the second UAE cargo crash but big differences as the one in Sharjah was poorly maintained. UPS has excellent record! lets see what is the report
My condolences for the familes of Captain Doug Lampe of Louisville, Ky., and 38-year-old First Officer Matthew Bell of Sanford, Fla. on the wake of Labor Day weekend. Let us not forget our brothers who lost their lives doing their jobs.
My condolences for the familes of Captain Doug Lampe of Louisville, Ky., and 38-year-old First Officer Matthew Bell of Sanford, Fla. on the wake of Labor Day weekend. Let us not forget our brothers who lost their lives doing their jobs.
I am very sad to hear of this accident. My deepest sympathies to the families and friends affected by this terrible tragedy. Words seem inadequate to express the sadness we feel.
@dutchforces your a dick head. ive worked for ups for over 10 years. the loss is so devistaing, to the families and ups worldwide. I work in cananda and we lost one of our members due to a murder and we'll never be the same. My deepest sypathies to the families affected by this terrible tragity. Have a heart you prick!
@doubblea2 You are so stupid... you realy think im serious ? Your probably an american ore something close to that (people without humor who live on the other side of the ocean).
I alsof have lost a coworker last year, brought flowers to his grave last week (exact 1 year ago he died) so your an idiot.
Using humor may be your excuse and insulting others may be your way of avoiding any responsibility for your comments, but in all of my travels around the world tragedy and loss have never equalled humor. That's also goes for the individuals who comment about their missing packages. Just in poor taste to make a joke when lives were lost doing a job that fed their families and they were proud to have.
@smileyhappychick where do you see an insult ?... your just wanting to make a comment, trying to sound smart.. wel accept i have another way of humor... this is youtube, nothin personal...
@dutchforces , I was and still am really afraid of flying, but soon enough you'll realised that it is part of life nowadays and we need this technology. But honestly, after many flights I've been through, there hasn't any landing or takeoff that not made me shake and cry a bit (secretly)...it's not secret anymore now...-)
Hope u try it once, it's thrilling but the feeling after you landed and went out of the aircraft safely is just great.
for all of those with negative stupid comments think about the families of those involved and how they'd feel if they came across what you said it's a hard enough time for them then to run across some of the comments from people on here and get more hurt and upset if you don't have the facts about what actually happened then you should keep your comments to yourself... to the families of the pilots much love and prayers for you...
It is so sad when WUMS amuse themselves on newswires like this - go get a life - or a job - or move out of your moms house so you can embrace serious issues like grown folk!
the pilot flew over Silicon Oasis (a densely populated area of Dubai) and avoided collision with several buildings after which he headed to that small patch of desert. May God bless their souls and reward their bravery.
@tvfilmglamdirector Got some info from flight crew in the area, the UPS crew could not see their instruments due to fire and dense smoke in the cockpit, the crew were on the radio asking for positioning data. Some reports say the engine power was at fairly low settings. Sounds as though they were completely blind, awful.
@tvfilmglamdirector Its a terrible scenario! Just like the Swiss Air crash! Looks like the plane was being eaten inside out! Im just confused as to why this fire did not flag up quicker, however once is starts its so quick to spread..Trying to land with smoke blocking the instruments is just terrible!
angloarabia and dynamite get your facts- right there are foreign military bases in the UAE you don't know what happens in every inch of desert outside of Dubai
Either a catastrophic failure or packaged items that should have never been shipped. Imagine a run away battery packaged next to a box of hair spray and all the cardboard ready to burn... Amazing that they lost the plane so quickly after takeoff. The fire must have been right over critical equipment or a fuel tank.
What a loss, I'm sorry for the families of the crew.
@dynamite333, you are wrong. I work on a number of them every day. You are clearly not involved in the industry so why would you comment on something you do not know.
I have been a British expat in Dubai since 1990 and I can also confirm there are no foreign military bases in this country, unlike some other countries in the Gulf. I was in Arabian Ranches at 7pm but thank God I was gone by the time of the incident. God Rest their Souls and protect their families. RIP
@angloarabia sorry to say you are 100% wrong. Living here since 1990 means nothing unless you work in a field that would expose you to their presence. Given the nature of cooperation in military services between the UAE and other countries, it is hardly something that would be advertised and public knowledge. There are many, many foreign bases here, both independent of UAE forces and jointly occupied. I live here too, (in fact in the Ranches) and work on many of those bases regularly.
@CJSDXB sorry living here since 1990 means nothing to you (it never does to people who have not) and await with interest the evidence you have to support your claim of foreign flags flying alone over military bases in the UAE.
HeGmAn117 No its UAE military base , and I guess we live here and know much more than you do. that was near the highway near the Emirates outlet mall ,, I was there at the time of crash
I've witnessed the crash and thanks God it was cargo plane otherwise many people would be dead now .. God bless the pilots, the captain avoided to crash at the crowded area
@6663000 seriously think you need to remove your comment it is way beyond rude and not even remotely funny at all....maybe you'd think differently if had been someone you knew or a family member...
@everythingeco This is the first one that crashed that the crew died. There have been a couple of other incidents where the crew got out safely. In Philly a plane was on fire but the crew got it to the ground and out safely before it burned up on the tarmac.
@HeGmAn117 No your wrong sorry! I also live in the UAE and its not a foreign base. We have ops here training logistics etc and also some ex special forces, but no foreign bases run and manned exclusively by foreign troops
