  • That was very pleasing to my Ric ears. Quite an original style too.

  • Music that makes me think "what crazy hijinks will Jerry, Elaine, George, and Kramer get into this week?"

  • That bass looks like sex in musical instrument format.

You know, how to uze rickenbacker 4003..

  • i see you have a ric and an rh450. would you mind doing a vid of a hard rock/thrash type thing with them? im saving for a ric and the rh450 is very interesting.

  • i see you have a ric and an rh450. would you mind doing a vid of a hard rock/thrash type thing with them? im saving for a ric and the rh450 is very intriguing.

  • Sweet sound. What gear are you playing through?

  • DUDE!!! DREAM BASS!!!!

  • Did u eq more bass for the ric in this video?

  • Did u eq more bass for ric in this video?

  • I can't play, but this sounds pretty good to me!!

  • YOU ARE AMAZING! What a feeling...

  • this is awesome!!

  • MarloweDK, I've got Rick 4003 as well, and I've a guestion concerning the Rick's metal bridge on the body, which covers the pick-up under it. The pick-up which above you mostly play here. So the question is, how to get it off the bass? I'd like to try the bass without it :D And I haven't got any answer anywhere yet. So can you help a little?

  • @Anonyomus You almost need to unscrew the pickup itself to get it off, as far as i remember, it was a bit cumbersome. I needed to get the bass shielded after, since it picked up more hum without the pickupcover

  • @MarloweDK

    Hi mate,

I own a 4001 and without the cover, indeed, it buzzes: how did you perform the shielding?

Great playing as always by the way!

    Pat

  • @Anonyomus yeah, you have to unscrew the entire pickup housing assembly ... it is a pain but that's how they're designed

  • Why is the fingerboard so shiny ?

  • Man groover altså ikke med et plekter..

  • @KenneyOz

  • @KenneyOz Vrøvl hvad du siger men tak alligevel:)

  • Is that a 4003? I have a 1976 4001 and it's by far the best bass I've ever played. Worth every penny.

  • THAT IS A NICE BASS.

  • that is definitely THE sexiest bass riff I have ever heard from a rickenbacker! :D

  • I owned that exact bass but couldn't play it like that though . groovy stuff DK

  • nice slap n' funk man and can i jjust ask what u use on ur bass to make it soooo shiny ????????????

  • @GOGGLEFACE557

thats a rickenbacker. this is their natural sound!

  • @gus23a By the way dude shiny isnt a sound lol i meant the colour of the rick. Like some sort of lacker or watever

  • @GOGGLEFACE557

of course shiny can be used as a word for describing the sound.

and the answer for your question is:

    polish it.

but if the question applied to the fretboard, thats the rickenbacker´s secret.

the wood is polished as long as the wood gets this shiny.

  • @gus23a Ok dude thnx you have to admit that this guy is pro on bass and i dont see anything wrong with using a pick on a rick (lol) i think the people that say this are in-experienced when they say "oooh you shouldnt use a pick on bass its not traditional" anyway moan over thnx for the answer.

  • @GOGGLEFACE557

yeah, right. you play the best if you play like you want to play.

  • my ears just came

  • sooo lovely and shiiiiiiiiiiny :)

  • Man I love your tone, but jeez look at the glass finish on that thing! Just amazing...

  • What a tone! - even through youtube. Not my style of music tho, but really really nice tone.

  • its fun to play guitar to your music as rhythm. your so good at bass i would have to always give you lead

  • those rickenbackers always sound awesome i'd say even better than anything fender has to offer, and i'm a fender man lol

  • Such a diesel tone

  • GREAT TONE! SO GREAT, IN FACT, I NEED CAPS LOCK IN ORDER TO EXPRESS HOW GREAT IT IS!

    how much do these cost?

  • @laffingman21 around $2000

  • wow so shiny...i've never seen a neck that shiny...

  • Almost looksl ike the things' encased in Plastic. O_o

  • Shiny.

  • Why don't you make up your own nice groove?

  • why dont you make one up?....

  • haha unbelievable tone ok !

  • VERY GOOD SOUND

    FUNKY IT !

  • Awesomest-est bass ever !

  • MarloweDK = Bass god of youtube

  • that's the truest truth.

  • yeah, him and gbagely

  • Takes a great Dane to bring out that Oakland funky sound.

  • @FGPosse he good but check out davesinrocks i think hes better

  • @kriscman davidsinrocks is good but he mostly does cover

  • @MrMegadeth18 true true

  • @FGPosse yes and DavidSinRocks!!

  • Very good! You are so groovy!!!

  • Just luv the fucking sound of Rickenbaker

  • your guitar is shining

  • Just wandering what Marlowe thinks about the 4004L and 4004C by Ric. Seems too me they created them for the funk, jazz market.

  • Nice vid, I can not agree with all the comments about Ric and Fender, if you cant play who cares what the fuck you choose. This guy can make a $99 pawn shop knock off sound like a million dollars.

  • Tabs? PLEASE?! i love this! thanx in advance.

  • really nice bass!

  • I like your funky sound with your funky pick technic.

  • dude ur my new idol seriously :) keep them vids comin

  • You still got the coating on that board??

    Frickin' SHINY...

  • why does anyone give a fuck how anyone else plays or wht they play? just shut the fuck up and appreciate the groovin goin on

  • what a beatiful jetglo...

  • Why the pick hate? Anyone who says that its wrong to use a pick on a bass is musically retarded.

    Brilliant vid, 5*

  • @jonsparrow15

pick on a bass just seems like cheating

  • @GrapeVine921

Music is about entertainment, not winning or losing.

  • @jonsparrow15

i dont think i said he one or he lost, but ok sure i agree

  • @jonsparrow15 Or just not pro musicians. And thx by the way:-)

  • @MarloweDK Look I like my sound better playing with my fingers but I'm not sayin' that using a pick is wrong

  • @jonsparrow15 Seriously, the tone you can get is awesome. The bassist for Upp used a pick, and got DAMN close to a slap sound. Check out the Upp Down in the Dirt live video. Sweet bass solo.

A real bassist can and will use everything available to them to get the right sound.

  • @jonsparrow15 There's a strange attitude directed to and by bass players. Is it ego or ignorance or what? Even Anthony Jackson, who played one of the most recognizable bass lines ever, For The Love Of Money, had a disdain for this new fad called slapping. He called it an abomination and an insult to 'real' bass players. Ironically, he used a pick. In my opinion, the only wrong way to play, is to not play at all. Sorry for the interruption Marlowe. Carry on funk master. 1.2.3.4...

  • @jonsparrow15 well a bass guitar is ment to be played with fingers but in some case you should use a pick! and it's not so easy to use without doing weird noise!

  • don't you know that is illegal to play funk on rickenbackers???? :D:D

  • personally i prefer the MUSIC MAN basses over rickenbackers but thats just my opinion but this guy is a great bassist ill give him that

    5/5

  • Your opinion doesn't count here.

  • AWESOME DUDE

  • first couple of seconds i was expecting the seinfeld theme.

  • may i ask why?

  • Rickenbacker bass is the only bass you're allowed to play with a pick :P

  • Wow, keep that baby clean enough?

  • is the Rick as funky as or more funky than the fender (and squier) bass?

  • It mostly depends on the playing, as both are capable of being funky.

  • Rickenbacker is cool !!!

  • Very shiny bass, or is there a screen between the camera and the guitar?

  • OMG I LOVE Rickenbacker basses, asewome look, awesome sound, and you my friend are an awesome bass player.

  • RickenBASTARD basses :D

  • look at teh neck! its shinier than teh body

  • Very good. 5!

  • nice.

    u r a real master

  • Great playing :] What year is your Rickenbacker? I'm looking at picking up a jetglo '88 really soon, and searching for opinions

  • really sounds cool !! Rickens rock !!

  • youre the man

im playin this ric too but i think im never gonna be as good as you.. could you give me tabs for this pls??

  • pretty sick man, just my genre — blues, but funky blues. that's a very nice bass too, i've always wanted a rickenbacker...not quite rich enough tho...and it doesn't help that i'm only 14. also, i gotta say that's the most i've ever liked pickbass...i usually much prefer fingerstyle.

  • i love rickenbacker!! but i don't know where can i find one in the internet.

  • Musician's Friend or Same Day Music (I'd go with Musician's Friend if you can)

  • nice dude! :D

  • That's the good stuff dude :)

  • Super performance great!

  • you play fantastic!

your bass is gorgeous. will ya just LOOK at that FRETBOARD!!

oh ym GOD I would be in Nashville Art rock recording studio so quickyl..

sorry, english not too very that good!

  • i pretty much pick when im playing harder and faster stuff like metal

  • surely the best bass

  • personally i use picks when the bassist from that song uses a pick, i feel it gets a closer sound. but if the bassists uses his figners, then i use finger plucking.thats how i do it idk about you guys

  • lol shiny gives the expression of MONNEH

  • Seriously how do u get it to shine that nice(fretboard)

  • rickenbacker put shiny laquer on the fretboards.

  • I WANT THIS BASS!!!!!!!!

  • How in the world did you get it so shiny?!?!?!

  • i dont like using picks, but there are times when they sound 100x better than plucking, so which is why on occasion i use a pick :]

  • its for the type of sound you can get with a pick, sometimes its better to use a pick in funk other times with fingers. All depends on the type of sound you want

  • Hey dude! Does it really matters? Your ideas are messing with your ears! Don't let your mind tell what's right.. let the feelling flow and go for it!

  • dont u know anything bout picks? lol

  • ur 1 of them retards who thinks u havta play bass with ur fingers. u can say the same thing about guitar. jeff beck, mark knoffler and many others dont use plectrums! its watever u wanna use!dickhead!

  • hahahahaha shut up u fucking idiot! u dnt even know wat ur talking about!

  • i find that the pick gives a stiffer tighter sound where when i play with my fingers the tone is a little more soft and smooth. i prefer to play with my fingers but sometimes its not practical...i dont undertand why your arguing over something thats just personal preference.

  • It shines so bright O_O

  • I still check daily for rickenfunk #3, consider making it sometime. Absolutely fantastic bass playing.

  • very well done

  • how do you do those extremely fast triplet muted slaps?

  • it's a double-thump followed by a regular slap i think. little drunk so i can't really tell

  • shiny, fretboard, every part of the rick n' bakr

  • Nice to see a bass groove with some actual skill involved. Nice one.

  • Congratulations!

I have problems with the first string of muy Ric (G). I don't know... It's not comfortable. Usually, it falls outside the arm.

The calibration is not good, you think? Or the problem is me?

Greetings and excuse me, my english is terrible.

  • ohh damn, i looove that glassy ricken crunch:D it makes me wanna sell all my stuff and buy a ric

  • I like it! funky!

  • WOw! look at that neck! =O !! awesome playing too!!!

  • Think of it this way. If youre looking just to begin bass, get a fender. (Not a vintage) A Squier by Fender is a good begginers bass. A rickenbacker, on the other hand, is definetly not. Sometimes, the tone of the Rickenbacker doesnt sound good in some hands, because they owner isnt excatly ready to pick up a bass like that. Learn how to play a begginers bass expertly, then move on to a rickenbacker. (Make sure you have enough money of course! ;))

  • Just to add on, the best beginner's bass I've ever played myself was an Ibanez GSR200 because it teaches you the advantages and disadvantages to single-coil pickups, split-coil pickups and active electronics. Plus, they have very good necks, aren't expensive (around 170$ in outlet 180-200$ online; all new) and the one I owned was the most durable bass ever! The tuners it comes with work exceptionally as well. And great for slapping. But after the beginner stage get something better.

  • I own a GSR200 to. It's no Ric but it sure gets the job done. Its pretty versatile for beginner bass.

  • I play one as well, =p. The sound isn't very impressive but it's surely durable and versatile.

  • omg, this whole bass is shining, even the neck, i'm definitely getting this when i'm better

  • that's just marlowe's aura.

  • lmaoo yes

  • Yea, looks brand new ;)

  • So how are Rickenbackers?

i was thinking about getting one but i wanted to hear if its any good from someone who owns one before i spend a bunch of money.

  • Ricks are either your best friend or your worst enemy. I have a '74 Rick and as far as hand and pick play goes it's incredible. But for slap, tap, varied techniques etc., it is useless to me and I go back to my Ernie Ball. So it depends on your style.

    P.S.

New Ricks are better for Slap and Tap but they still get a lot of twang that may not suit your style.

  • I agree! I own a 06' 4001c64 and a 4003. It took some tewaking to get the action and playablity straight. I had to change my strings to a light guage but it was worth it. I upgraded to a hipshot bridge for the 4003. It wouldn't fit the 4001 but it was way worth it. It's hard to tap in the higher register because it only has a 20 fret range so I have to make adjustments but I have to say I'm very happy with them.

  • You can't beat a Ric, thats all there is to it. Get one.
