It's hard to do a good press roll. It's not just bouncing the drum stick, it has to be very even. Just shut the fuck up about things you don't know what you're talking about!
i thought with press rolls one of the big issues was keeping the grip relatively loose on the thumb - even changing the pivot to the middle finger rather than the index allowing the thumb to come over the top in a more open handed grip meaning you have more controll over the dynamic for the whole periord of the bounce on each stick (so it's not noticiable every time you add a stroke if you're extending the roll). but keeping in the centre Esssential i hate kids making circles.
He seems to go on about buzzing a lot through out these vids this seems to be more of a buzz roll than a Press roll. From what Ive gathered a press roll is controlled a buzz is not.
Why is everybody playing smartass !?!?! Does any of you haters actually know what the press roll is ?? This IS a demonstration of the press roll !! If you are not familiar with it then look it up !!
You literally spent the whole video just saying "just try and stop it. Don't let it move around. You just wanna stop it." then you made that weird movement with your head. Sounded like you were dropping marbles. I don't hear a roll anywhere in there .:| Heed your own advice and just "stop it."
Kinda strange technique - the angle of the wrist to the arm looks (at least on the video) awkward. If I saw one of my students doing that, I would stop them and correct it - but I fully admit that I haven't seen this guy play and so maybe the arm/wrist alignment has something to do with this particular exercise.
i was always taught that the majority of your stroke is in the hand and fingers, not the wrist. The man who taught me has a performance degree as well. Hmm...i wonder who i should litsen to.
There are many different ways to "correctly" execute a press roll, and no single technique is "correct", which is what I don't like about this video. It's whatever works for the individual. I have heard many better sounding rolls than this....oh, wait. It says this guy is an "expert". Sorry, my bad, he is right.
" Practice this ten times left hand ,ten times right hand "??? And you call this learning??? Again,I am collecting voices for shutting this fucking "expert"villager channel down, please join!!!
You can start on the sides of the drum cause that gives less bounce back. And as you're rolling you can move to the center cause there is more bounce. The roll will last longer
fuck you its a cheap and great for muffling jeez we drummers are not sposted to be the pretty boys if u wanna be a pretty boy go play guitar who cares u have a few duct tape strips on ur set if it makes u sound better or if it gives u the tone u need and dam if ur in a recording studio who the hell is gonna see it anyway duct tape is the drummers best friend and if u dont like it then ur stupid
I agree, I guess it's all about "managing" the rebound of the stick with a relaxed grip, everyone I studied with told me that squeezing the stick is the first thing to avoid...
no sir, you do not stop it, lol this is bad. im sorry, but this is bad....
