What does it mean when the collie lies (lays?) down on the ground? He keeps going down and then getting back up again to run? What does this signal the sheep to do? Very intelligent and impressive dog.
The border collie is acting as a one-wolf wolfpack. When a wild wolf pack hunts, they surround a herd of animals and one of the surrounding wolfs lies down to draw the herd in its direciton.
Excellent video and thanks for sharing. Your girl/boy is amazing.
The one thing I really love to pay attention to when watching BC herd is how they absolutely LOVE what they're doing. It's like they know it's an art and are damn proud of it too! ;)
Wow, don't see many merle bc's in herding. Nice too see! Just starting my bc, Paige and have a 12 year old who recently retired.
I've heard it said that you are always training your last dog - how true! and they are so different, went from intense to laid back and biddable. both have their pros and cons...
What a beautiful dog. Nice cover! He (she?) moves just like my girl, who is also a blue/tri merle and is also currently training on the shed. My girl is extremely pushy (as reflected in most judges' comments). I feel like Casey Jones sometimes as I watch another train wreck unfold. I see a lot of that strength and enthusiasm in your dog but you have excellent control. Good luck with her/him! Are you in the UK? Cetrulo, maybe the dog drops on her own?
Why don't you let this dog walk up on his sheep and work??? He looks quite talented but I never get to see it because he is always dropped when he hits balance.
the reason is veeeery heavy sheep and unexperienced handler. I'd never let my dog be traind on such sheep again... but Devoted is working now with his own light sheep and yes, it looks much better! ;))
Wow, you've got a very talented BC. I'm hoping to get a red merle puppy soon and compete with it in agility and herding. Your blue's outruns look very nice. He has a nice stride and great concentration.
Loved watching your video! Devoted One is an amazing, beautifiul dog!

You have very very calm sheep. Must make it so much easier when training your dog. Where are you guys from?
