That's a difficult question to answer, maybe try alternatives such as live Norfolk pines in pots, or even a Bonsai evergreen, decorated for Christmas. Make a tree out of other materials or buy a small ceramic tree. Or use garlands of spruce or pine boughs, again decorated with balls and ribbons etc.

For these reasons: 1)Dwarf trees grow to half the size of a cut-down christmas tree (more CO2 asorbed by cut-down) 2)Cut-down christmas trees can be turned into mulch (provides nutrients for the soil, covers soil, prevents nitrogen being released into the atmosphere) 3) I could be wrong but young pines probably asorb more CO2 because their growing(, this supports tree farms)
