I had the honour and pleasure of training with Mr Collado in Ireland with Jeff Speakman circa 2003. What a martial artist. This clip really captures Kenpo at it's most 'raw' and effective.
Agreed! Very well edited and strong performance. Watching the techniques I would suggest that the head throw is a very dangerous move to attempt when the attacker is still standing straight. The performer had to reach very high to lock up and this puts him in ackward position that can be easily countered. Better to do a head throw when the head is lower perhaps after a leg buckle.
Great comments, The key move However, is the leg buckle it preceeds the neck throw and will literally "launch" the opponent heels over head. as I pull him over..Its all timing.. once you feel it you will get the idea on how effective it really is.. Watch it again,
Yep! Great timing, your partner does get launched into the throw. I'm suggesting a different timing...the buckle is first, followed by the grasp around the neck, which is really a 'strike-choke' with your forearm, the throw afterwards. Ultimately, all this depends on your intent. The throw as you did it is after a few prefix strikes anyway so, a throw as you described would be the final move to end the altercation. Great demo, the video in the back ground is cool too.
A great demo. Mr. Collado is a true inspiration to any Kenpoist and it is great to have him in the ranks of American Kenpo. He shows great power, speed and accuracy. Great stuff!
This is clearly a demonstration of the capabilities AND power of Ed Parkers American Kenpo Karate. Each series of moves Mr Collado demonstrated could be isolated and used in many different situations. Excellent display Sir!
completely aside from how effective this might or might not be - assume for a minute it works like its supposed to...
is this amount of overkill really self defense or is it quite likely that the would be assault charges on the "victim" for going WAY past "reasonable force"
I rather be over-prepared for an unarmed altercation rather than under-prepared. My first consideration is the well-being of myself and those close to me. I'll worry about the law after that. Additionally, if I know the extremes of where I can take these techniques I can throttle them down to whatever force I feel is necessary to get the job done. This video is simply a nice demonstration of Kenpo technique.
very well done,, bow

Mr. Parker taught us to be over-skilled. It isn't overkill.
