@themorren2 you make a very valid argument. As a) I put a lot of work into making my kick just right so I dont want anything but the full power and b) adding V.S. would push the price up so sure FUCK VELOCITY SESITIVITY.
At 4:20 you got stoned and I must correct you as a avid launchpad owner... You CAN MAP THE WINDOW RANGE WITH ABLETON FOR THAT "SWEET SPOT" OF THE RANGE AND EITHER MAKE IT IN STEPS OR FROM ONE END RIGHT TO THE OTHER... YOU CAN MAP JUST THE POINTS YOU LIKE AND SKIP THE WINDOW PROCESS AND SETUP ALL TOGETHER 8 )
@love2funk I think you will find I didn't say you couldn't map the sweet spot. Mapping a small range wont help when that sweet spot will be different depending on what audio going through the filter. Even if you did map a smaller range 8 steps is still a very course movement.
All that being said I found a solution in my "Novation Launchpad advanced configuration (fine control) – Part 3" video.
One question - is it possile to use KORG NANOKONTROL with NOVATION LAUNCHPAD so that all volumes and sends are controllable with NANOKONTROL (faders). I like LAUNCHPAD, but bots/faders are really needed to adjust sends and volume :). Hope You can help.
I love my launchpad so much, i recomend it for everything accept for making beats and using it as a drum pad, i pressed to hard on the kick drum and now the botton is a lil sticky and doesnt give it the same feeling, i recomend the apc40 way more if you can afford it and have the space for it lol
GREAT REVIEW COVERED EVERYTHING I WANTING TO KNOW , IVE GOT A PAIR OF SAMSON RUBICON R5A'S. HAVE YOU HAD ANY TROUBLE WITH THEM ??? MINE NEED TO GO BACK TO GET FIXED AS THE WOOFERS ARE SUCKING IN AND OUT WITH A MASSIVE POP AND HISS . MIGHT BE DRY SOLDER JOINTS . IVE PICKED UP SOME ALESIS DSP 720'S FOR MAIN MONITORS WHICH ARE GOOD ALTHOUGH I TRUST THE SOUND FROM THE SAMSONS SO I WILL HAVE TO GET THEM FIXED .
@EEZAL Sorry to hear that man, Ive had no problems at all with mine. I think they sound good given how very cheap they are. I listened to a few different cabs but these sounded the most natural and non fatiguing (at this price point) to my ears. What does make a big difference is I have acoustically treated the room, VERY important. They where only meant to be temporary but I am happy to use them until I can get something better.
Fair call, this was recorded as first impressions when it first came out so I didn't have one at hand. I'm talking with Novation atm and should be getting one soon to give you some real hands on footage.
Thanks for the good review. As I agree with you that Launchpad isn't that great for controlling effects, I'd like to add that I think that it is designed to be used together with other controllers that already have knobs. Thanks again and cheers from Finland!
@kb1629 Your right you kind of need knobs or sliders for FX, maybe this comparison is a little unfair. I do quite like the idea of a modular approach where you can match your favorite launch grid + knob bank + touch pad etc.
my thoughts exactly, last thing we need is another ac adapter to fck with. AL8 and launchpad is quickly changing the way I work. I use my evolution and axiom pro for knobage. LP yes APC40 no.
. . . because! I liked your observation regarding sweet spot on rotory controls against that of lack of subtlty of button control.

@tolmuaff Live will let you map almost any parameter to any midi control with up to six controllers, so yes you can do exactly that!

Thanks for the review, very well made and rather objective for something as subjective as music :) It helped a lot in my choice.

@assassin74 APC40 if you have the money / not worried about portability / flexibility . (I know this is a really late reply, sorry)

Great review as always. Where did you get your speaker stands on the desk behind you?

@dexterfritz
Thanks, they are actually home made. Going to do an eisode on stands / pads in the future but that will be a little down the road.
Cheers
