So far they are not back together in the books, and yes Bill cheated on her. In the TV series they're setting it up "nicer" by justifying his behavior more, but there are so many things he does wrong by her, in my opinion.

Then again, the TV sereis and the books have many differences! Who knows if the same things will happen. Yes, Bill probably loves Sookie, but I don't think she should be with someone who does not trust her to tell her the truth and who keeps hurting her.

Bill has to know things won't end well, so yeah, maybe he really aches. But falling in love with Sookie was more of a complication than anything else for him, I'm sure. If he could go back and change things, I'm sure he would (especially after reading the last book).

The books are DEFINATELY worth reading! I don't want to give away everything, but a lot is revealed in All Together Dead or From Dead to Worst. I can't remember which one it was. They hinted at what will happen in season 1, but only those that have read all the books would understanding the meaning, so I recommend that you read the books!
