  • Cannot get the videos to show in 3D window after setting orthographic camera. Im using 2.61

  • I load them , the show in the view properties, but not in the camera window/

  • It took me a bit to realize that the background wasn't actually an apartment but CG! good job.

  • thanks for the tutorial

  • Outstanding!

  • Did anyone notice Suzanne in the Background?

  • When i click on user preferences Blender crashes. What should i do?????

  • @TheBaldeagle98 That's a new one, what version? maybe try a reinstall.

  • @BlendThatFilm I have the newest version and have tried reinstalling three times.

  • Great work, I can't wait to see what you do next. Now Lightworks has gone open source too there's nothing that can't be done using free software.

  • @kiwifrogg lightworks crashes within 30 seconds of starting it up and it hasn't been updated in like six months

  • @xLDH1109x I agree the lack of updates is poor, but it runs just fine on my pc. It needs a comunity behind it, too push for updates.

  • Excellent tutorial that just oozes quality, its been very professionally created, the set, script, the photography all really well done.

You've made good decision to aim for a punchy, quick and clear presentation of the essentials of the topic for the intermediate user which I certainly like.

Well done and I hope you go on to make many more.

  • Really interesting. It would have been freat to show the finished video again after showing all the node and masking voodoo. That would have been more educational than going into WB and lighting issues, which also was interesting, but also kind of off-topic - you could have put that into a note in the video description imo.

  • Good stuff, Tom. I liked the pacing and level of detail. Looking forward to the next edition!

  • Wow this looks great! Seems like a great series good idea! Can you maybe show how you did the greenscreening. I've been trying that in Blender forever, but it never seems to come out right. Keep going it looks amazing! :D

  • hhhhm... the video was great but you should probably use a different format; the picture isn't great. try rendering as PNGs then bring them back into blender and render with the h.264. under encoding change it to quicktime and the codec to h.264

trust me. it gives GREAT image quality.

  • @HFdemofilms Actually all of the green screen and titles are rendered out as PNG to start with these sequences go into the VSE and yes I did render it to H.264, but I used the AVI version not quicktime H.264. It looks slick on my laptop.

  • Congratulations, I think you have created a series that will go very far and I am keen to see where you will go from here. I am definitely subscribing to your series. Must say it does remind me a bit of Film Riot. Was that what inspired you to do the series?

  • @Vendroma Yes I'm a fan of Revision3 Shows in general, I like their professional look, especiilay Film Riot and Ben Heck. I am a little worried about comparisons with Film Riot but it's hard to take the format of sitting in front of a green screen with an animated title sequence, lower thirds, section titles etc and make it original. Most of it started out as an experiment to see if it could be done in Blender.

  • Main drawback is lack of other videos to watch, really great job.

  • This show has a lot of future!

  • Great tutorial. Can I ask what version of Blender you use? I downloaded Blender 2.49 a few years back, and have had problems with the audio being out of sync when I finish rendering a video. I'm not sure if the "sculpt" files I've created would be compatible with a newer version, so I've been to afraid of losing or changing them with an update, seeing as I've put alot of time and work into them. :)

  • @stevenwalton8177 I'm using Blender 2.59 but I always download both the zip and the exe files when there is a new release, this way if something isn't working in the new release I can always just launch the previous version from the zip file and use that. There's an archive on Blender.org

  • @BlendThatFilm Ok, I might try updating then, after I backup my old files to the external drive. Thanks. :)

  • Hey I'm having a brightness problem. Look at the lamp in the upper corner, any idea what the problem is? youtube.com/watch?v=hOzBfnZxL3s

  • @Craigsnedeker Although youtube wouldn't let me see the video, I've found that if it's a problem with 3D lighting for Blender animation, you usually just need to add more lights. It's like the real world, where light reflects off of objects around us to make things brighter on all sides. With Blender, you often have to add a few less-powerfull lamps around the area at different heights, to make it look like the light is reflecting off of different surfaces. Hope this helped. :)

  • @stevenwalton8177 Thanks for the reply, but there's no 3D scene. I followed the tutorial by adding 2 videos via the compositor. Try this link youtube.com/watch?v=hOzBfnZxL3s (no spaces)

  • @Craigsnedeker I think BlendThatFilm's right about the auto balance. It looked like your camera was trying to adjust the color to your movements. I'd suggest experimenting with different light angles too, as it might change the way the camera reads the image.

  • Thanks for this. Been meaning to get into the rotobezier tool for a while - and this was a great introduction to it. Done some roto with 2.49 and this is so much easier!

Good pacing for the tutorial. Nice and quick but covers everything you need to know.

  • Awesome tutorial! This should turn out to be a great series, and I hope to see many more tutorials from you.

  • excellent tutorial :) . really professional stuff here.. thanks a lot and keep them coming.

  • Thanks your film was really easy to follow and well paced.

  • This is really cool man, I have been using Blender for a while on Independent films and these tutorials will be a HUGE help!

  • Inspiring! i think I'll start my own short films with blender!

  • awesome! now I can do my own wheezy waiter videos :P

  • Finally!!! I've been waiting for something like this for so long! I had thoughts on making something like it, but I'm not that good yet. Thanks a lot!

  • @Craigsnedeker Looks like your camera is using some auto settings (maybe auto white balance like me) and the contrast is compensating once you walk passed the light.

  • @BlendThatFilm Nope this is why. There is a edge (mask) where the light/dark is, but that edge disappears and it looks seemless after a few seconds.

  • @Craigsnedeker well I guess it could be... I'll try another test outside and see how it works :)

  • Very informative and clear tutorial. Enjoyed it. I can't wait for your next tutorial!!!

  • Very informative and clear tutorial. Enjoyed it. I can't wait for your next tutorial!!!

  • Thanks for the tutorial. Very helpful and informative. Blender is a great value, no doubt!

  • Great tutorial-Thanks. As far as music during the tutorial-I didn't actually notice it myself. :)

  • very nice and informative, thanks for you efforts.

I would like to ask for one thing, is it possible to not use music during the tutorial itself because for me( I don't know about other) feel very distracting. People generally like to listen to music while they are working on something not while learning a new skill.

    Anyway, thank you!

  • Great job. It moved quickly and held my interest, but was still very clear. I hope you do one on the video sequence editor. I still can't figure out how to cut footage in there.

  • Excellent Work! This kind of projects will increase the reception of Blender in the community! Keep it going!

  • He is sitting in front of a green screen in front of a green screen!

  • Great job!

Keep up the good work, in the introduction i actually thought you were standing in a studio room :D

I really look forward to your videos and see what i can learn from it :)

  • Awesome! 5 stars deluxe! :)

  • Very nice. Good job!! :) I'm waiting for your next video.

  • awesome :P

  • Thanks, now i can use reference footage in the viewport for animating a walk cycle! Great vid matey!

  • First one? You've done a great job. I personally found everything very easy to follow but I can imagine that a significant amount of people would have difficulties keeping up due to the speed and possibly English not being their first language. I look forward with great anticipation to more of your shows. Thank you.

  • Thank you for this show, very professional done but..

Please slow down a little for those who are not native english.

  • Nice work - this is interesting times for Blender development with cool things like camera tracking and whatnot coming up. Like the tute - no need to apologise for mistakes or hope for anything cooler ;)

I'd rather have fast and dense information than slow ... wait for it... um ..er kink of stuff. That's what pause and rewind are for!

  • This is a great idea for a tutorial series, and this sort of compositing is exactly what I've been wondering a lot about lately. THANK YOU for posting this, I'm excited about this series, and I'm subscribing. I'm sure we'll all learn a lot from you! Great job.

  • Slow down a little BUT nice tutorial.

  • I am most definitely subscribed

  • Thank you for not over-explaining things. There's nothing worse than having a tutorial like this go off the rails with explanations on how to do every little thing. You explained how to do the shot and only how to do the shot, and I love that.

I am super excited for more of these.

  • I am so excited for all the next videos on this!

  • Top notch! Look forward to more. RE: your "mistake"? Well, because of it, I learned how to use RGB curves to compensate for production errors, during post-production! Even your mistakes are valuable if you show us how you fixed them.

  • Wonderful! Keep up the excellent work!

  • YES! Finally someone doing a professional tut on editing video in blender.

  • Brilliant! Thank you so much - as someone still learning the ropes of Blender this makes me even more excited.

  • Cool! And useful vid!! Looking forward to more ep. And you might look at the volume levels between the speaker and the title music... Cheers!

  • now, thats something great !

mistakes are always there at first try !

  • Thank you for this great tutorial, hope you keep up the good work.

  • Awesome tutorial! This is exactly the kind of stuff I need. Looking forward to your next videos!

  • Outstanding work, Tom. I would have accepted that background as real until I saw the monitor jump early on. Then I saw Suzanne. As for the rest, it's quite good. Just stop apologizing for yourself ... you will never eliminate every mistake, so stop calling attention to them and deliver with confidence ... and a private promise to never make *those* mistakes again.

  • Camtasia and the camera's you used...

  • @bboybram I shoot all my stuff on a Canon 500d and I'm using Camtasia Studio 3, which during their big free giveaway some years back.

  • definitely subscribing to this! .... and subscribed! really pro looking. I use premiere pro and AE at my church where I work. But at home I use ubuntu, because I don't have any budget for software, so I can't wait to see some tutorials on the sequencer!

  • thank you !

  • Great job! I love it.

  • I like what you are doing. It's educating and really professionally done. It shows you put effort into this.

  • Well, instant sub ! If you keep on this way, this will be a popular channel for sure. The more it goes, the more Blender shows its awesome abilities, It has to be known. Cool tut', great tips, love it, Thanks !

  • Great work, we need more tuts on VFX for blendheads for sure.

  • more !

  • Very nice tutorial, I look forward to seeing more from you in future.

  • Great video, I've been looking for a good explanation on how to rotoscope and this is the most helpful I've found. Well done and keep them coming

  • LOVE IT, LOVE IT, LOVE IT! as i have a background in motion graphics/vfx, and have followed Film Riot, Video Copilot, and often thought wouldnt it be cool if someone showcased the same or similar effects and motion graphics but instead showing how these can be done in Blender 3D. I would love to see "Super Hero" effects. making an actor "flame-on", Predator's cloak, Flight, Laser Beams from eyes, Nightcrawler's Teleport, even Digital Sets and Composting for "Batman" fans. THANKS!

  • episode 2 -chroma keying?? i have issues with chroma

  • looks great, very well done.

    subbed.

    keep em coming!

  • Very well done and professional!

Hope to see you do LOTS more!!

  • That was awesome

    I subscribed

I'm really looking forward to more videos

  • Very cool, keep going :)

  • Sweet! I'll keep an eye out.

  • Excellent! Very professional. Felt like I was watching a network show. Loved the pacing and the delivery. The tutorial result is nice and the color keying is pretty much flawless...I'd like to see a tutorial on that. Cheers! :)

  • @Unhurdof1 Thanks so much, I really appreciate your comments and for thanks subscribing. Yes there will be a tutorial on Green Screens in the future.
