I really like this ride, Even though its not big and wild. I still like the little story that goes with it. Its always been a little tradition for my family to ride this every time we go to Adventure land.

As of '10, The walls don't cave in, the flickering lights don't work. The guy hollering at you to 'Go on, get outta here' don't work. Almost all the speech in the beginning of the ride itself, when you pass the figures digging, the one pulling the goat, and the one with his head sticking out don't work. The train light isn't as bright nor loud. And the guy at the beginning, if I recall, has lost his beard. And is quieter. The ride still cools you down on a day over 110 degrees. :D

I hear a lot of people don't like this ride. If you go into it expecting a roller coaster it isn't very good but if you go into in knowing its more of a dark ride adventure its not too bad. I do wish they would invest a little time and money into its upkeep though, its falling apart

I used to have the miner's whole spiel memorized when I worked there as a youngster. That was about 13 years ago. He moved around a bit more though. It didn't take too long for the mechanics to stop working. I was at A-Land a couple of years ago for the first time since then and that ride was in piss-poor shape.

He has certainly seen better days. The flickering lights in the first "mist" cave have been out for years, and many other things inside are in rough shape or just broken. This video in 1999 still has most everything intact (just a few years after opening).

Notice all the trees outside -- those were cut down a few years after opening and you can now see the green show building easier.

I think the trick to a season pass is to change how you go. When we go, it's usually just for an hour in the evening or so. We'll show up, ride maybe one or two things, grab a snack, then leave. By doing it like this, it doesn't burn us out, and we avoid lines. (And now, whenever I go if it looks like there are any lines, I just leave and come back some other day...) That helps, I think.

This ride could have been SO much better. Great premise, but poor execution and effects. I mean, you can see that the falling rocks are really Styrofoam stuck to 4' x 8' panels with the mechanical arms making them move completely exposed. There is audio gear right out in the open instead of the wires run an extra few feet to hide them, etc. Even still, we get season passes to A-Land, and still ride this ride a couple of times a year. What a fun looking ride! Reminds me of the Calico Mine Train @ Knott's Berry Farm (it looks similar to it since on Calico, it goes up a lift and simply rolls down a gentle slope that feels fast).

I was 10 when they opened this ride. They marketed it in their commercials without any details, making it look mysterious and scarey. I went the day it opened for the season to see a line extending FAR beyond the line entrance. I waited for HOURS to get in, allthewhile thinking "this must be the best ride ever!"...

Upon exiting the ride, I had an overwhelming compulsion to light the building on fire.
