sugar gliders glide not fly and you need to interact with them more if you have only one sugar glider but if you have more than one ,also known as a pack then you interact with them for 1-2 hours a day its 2-4 for a single glider.they also have no realation to hamsters but they are in the oppussum family trust i know that as a fact. . i dont suspect you to know all this but if your planning to get one then i suspect you to do a little more research.
How did they come to be in the US? It's illegal to keep them as pets in Australia, I can only imagine they are descended from illegally smuggled individuals.
Hope they will ban Sugar gliders as pets over there. They're not suppose to be pets. Yes they're like the cutest things ever but that doesn't mean you have to steal them from their real home and keep them as pets.
its the same from any other animal. how do you think people started getting dogs and cats as pets? what about horses, hamsters, mice, ect? all the pets we can own were once wild :P
@JosieC84 AND as long as they're happy with their owner it shouldn't matter. In the wild they only live around 6 years because they get eaten. In captivity they can live as long as most dogs do.
If they're lonely, abused, or just unhappy they make a lot of noise.
If yours is always crabbing like it's upset and it's getting plenty of attention from you and/or a cage mate then check its health, living conditions, and food and fluids.
But, like people, there's always a few somewhere out there that just like being noisy. XD
I don't keep them, just last Sunday I got to hold one for the first time, but I've been researching them for months on end in the hopes of getting a little one.
when there born they are the size of a grain of rice, when they come OOP there a bit bigger then your pinky but when there first born they are VERy small
instead your discription should be: best pets ever

Except that nearly all sugar gliders here are bred in captivity, I've never seen somebody sell a sugar glider taken from the wild.
