There's a pretty good line of fossils of land animals becoming whales. If that is not a "kind" changing into another "kind" you need to define what a kind is...
You might ignore the fine line of fossils proving how horses evolved their hoofs by saying that they were the same kind since the ancestor looked kind of like a horse. But not so with the whales from land animals.
But don't use fossils to prove evolution - they are great and all but the best evidence is in our genes.
The old religion is egal to science nonsense? Yeah, religious folk finally discovered how weak the base of their faith is, and they try to drag science down to their level. Unfortunately for them, they can't help to reveal in the process how poor their understanding of science is. Don't get me wrong, I'm not bragging, I only possess basic scientific knowledge. They however show no signs of knowledge at all.
For one, not everyone finds the multiverse a good explanation. I for one do not. The aliens-from-far-away theory is also too far grasped for me.
But that and all, why should that be enough of a reason to stick to the Christian (I think you were referring to this one) God of the Bible and not Allah of the Qur'an or the Flying Spaghetti Monster (best deity ever IMO)? Other than that, ulthea has pointed out some good things
I can tell by the way Niles uses a mocking, sarcastic voice when mentioning anything that he disagrees with that he is really open to discovering unbiased truth.
Also, anyone who uses the world gazillions when discussing evolution in a 'serious' manner obviously has no understanding of evolution, cosmological time, biology, physics, etc.
There is a difference (among others) between a real scientist filling in 'gaps' with conjectures or philosophical world views and a Christian (or any other religious person) filling in the 'gaps' with God or Jesus. A true scientist will cling loosely to his conjectures until he can present substantial evidence to support his claims or until he is proven wrong. A Christian on the other hand allows no room for correction, and will always believe that 'God did it' despite having no real evidence.
Oh god, my head hurts after watching this. As an atheist I'm humble enough to say I don't know where the universe came from and I don't exactly know how life started on Earth. It could have been a god or a natural process. Are you willing to say the same thing? Also, get a dictionary and look up the word religion. Seriously, this video is pathetic. Next time don't get your information on atheists from a Christian source.
There is no fine-tuning of the universe for humans. We adapted to our environment, not the other way around. The anthro-centric idea that multiple parallel universes exist and only this one is fit for humans, this is not mainstream scientific thought, and not mainstream atheist thought either. And the idea that aliens seeded life on this world, is sounds far-out, but it beats the hell out of the idea that god made the world with incantation magic. God is as real as the Easter Rabbit.
Go away and read some more books. You're way out of your depth. You're a prime example of 'a little knowledge does a lot of damage'. Or you just like to deliberately get it wrong, like most creationists. e.g. puntuated evolution does make it to the fossil record, that's why the fosil is, ah, punctuated...DOH! And I don't believe Dawkins, or darwin, ever sited comets or massive radiactivity as the reasons for this.
You're an idiot, it's human nature to fear the unknown, atheist or not it's human nature to fill in the gaps because we're afraid of leaving it blank and accepting that we just DON'T KNOW
I might add that I find it nauseating how terribly people mis-understand the evidence for evolution, often using a lack of transitional fossils as an out.
What they fail to consider is the overwhelming evidence in other areas, such as ERV's, homology, "Junk" DNA, Polyploidy, medicine etc etc etc. So trying to claim that lacking one small fraction of evidence undoes this well established fact is purely dishonest.
E_OLUT_ON....we need not fill the gaps to reach a valid conclusion.
To live, to enjoy my time here, to share my love and experiences with those around me. The purpose of ones life is given definition by their desires and goals, there is no need for a belief in God to feel purpose.
While my universal purpose may be purely to procreate, I do not feel that giving myself purpose is wasteful, especially given the chance to appreciate my time here.
@ulthea so your faith lies in the care of this world and the pleasures of it? Hmm..well just like the Niles said, we all have a point of faith. What faith do you go to? Life is faith......you apply at a job and you hope which is having faith not giving up that you will get it. Well its the same with God, but see God is the source to meaning, just like all these theories that expand the idea of evolution or the big bang its there truth. But only one truth is right. What is yours?
So your faith lies in joining a possibly imaginary being in an improbable eternal afterlife - a reward you require as a believer of God. This life is the reward, and I find it sad that you and others like yourself may let that pass by unnoticed while striving to please an invention of man. If God were the source of meaning he would end all need for question - he/she/it only raises more. Faith in yourself and faith in an improbable being are hardly comparable.
@azar24701. My truth? I am a caretaker of Earth and of society. One day I will clock off, and I would like my time here to have made some measure of difference. I would like to pass the job of caretaker onto my children, who will continue to to make their small differences in this world. Life is a relay race, and my emotions, fears and wonder will cease to exist when my brain stops functioning - there will be no after party, nor do I need one to reward me for simply existing.
There is absolutely nothing wrong with holding an idea or philosophy for that which is yet unknown. The problem I find is with those who tend to do so in a matter-of-fact sort of way - be they atheist or theist.
I have found that (at least here on YT) theists tend to lean more towards this arrogance, while it seems (more) non-theists are happy to admit that they cannot *know*. This is often a result of the dogma of religion.

They go to theories, dipstick. Then they think of ways to test them. That's not faith. It's science. You got nothing.

Wow, way to quote mine, set up straw men, and offer no evidence for your own views. Unimpressive.
