Loving the videos Hollpoll. Has inspired me to build my own layoutonce i have some spare money lol. (obviously not quite as big lol) How long have you spent building and rebuilding this one?
Happy you are enjoying them, they are a labour of love and I try to make each one different. The layout has been in operation since 2001 and has been constantly remodelled extended etc since then. I retired in 2007 so have much more time now to devote to it
Haven't the Hornby range improved over the years - but what other way for the loco-tender connection?? It's an improvement on the tender drive locomotives of the 80's and 90's!! That really didn't work (for me) - the video is great and shows a fantastically mixed rake of stock!! Great stuff!!
Its designed really for DCC users which I am not, the other day unbeknown to me the hook became disconnected between engine and tender which meant the tender and coaches were being pulled alongby the wires of this connection - not good
Nice but Bachmanns 4MT is better, Boiler is correct size and the valve gear is more accurate... and hornby locos, still looks like a toys...But still nice model.
As I said a five pole motor and tender pickups win out every time as far as the Hornby version is concerned. As far as boiler size and so on I defy anyone to look at the two models and tell the difference !
To be honest I have had both at my layout... perfomance wise there the same. Ptting them back to back its quite easy to see the difference, for me Hornby is trying to hard and it looks like a toy, the bachmann is only missing some paint on the pipes which is easly done as I have done so. There was a 20 page list of complaints and problems with the hornby versiob so many can see the difference.
Wow ! A twenty page list - now that I would like to see ! Just enjoy the lovely model loco's you can now run compared with ten years or more ago people are far too critical I feel,
That is true they are leeps and bounds ahead of what they were producing 10 years ago when i left the hobby. Sadly some are perfectionists, and spot the tinyest faults, im still confused as to why Hornby made the boiler error.... oh well. I will enjoy mine next summer as its outside, so enjoy yours!
I agree! The tender is so hard to do up.
