at my local army surplus store they either have this or the older M14 tank gas mask the only reason i think its the m14 is because the visor can bend like the old masks but it is hooded like that.
That metal fixture on the filter intake is for hooking into the forced air system inside the tank. That reduced the breathing resistance. It allowed one to disconnect from the forced air system in a CBR environment and leave the vehicle. The metal fixture is secured to a removable cap that would be removed when disconnected from the forced air. Nice vid.
