NEVER!!! decontaminate the puncture site with the tourniquet on. prolong of the tourniquet might cause electrolytes to be forced from the tissues into the blood; because of the pressure that is exerted by the tourniquet and this might cause erroneous results.
You never tell a patient " have you ever had a phlebotomy " they are patients unfamiliar with medical jargon!! Also, YOU took too long, his arm was turning completely red. And YOU never fan dry your prep area. And Why would you refer to a dressing as something used on animals, was his arm full of hair, NO. That was a waste.
You are suppose to tell the patient something along the lines "Hi, I'm going to be drawing your blood today", not "I'm going to do phlebotomy on you"!!! HAHAHA, not every patient knows medical jargon!!! I've actually heard people say, "phlebotowhat?" Hahahahaha ;P
if that person was having a CBC for real the results would be inaccurate due to hemoconcentration... and never ask the patient if they have any good veins because most of them don't know what they are talking about.
bikergirl909 when you have a throw away tube they are RED and you ONLY do the throw away tube when you are drawing a light blue tube which is used for ptt,pt/inr ,
i have a quick question when drawing blood with a butterfly i have understood that u use a yellow stopper tube first because it contains air. After that do u proceed with the other tubes as listed as for a straight needle?
