If Nintendo did bring many elements of Super Mario 64, people would get bored of the game. It's nice to have a brand new concept, and that was exactly what Nintendo was doing. Having a lot of Super Mario 64 things in there would be silly. I think that what they put in was enough.
I'm still not sure if I prefer SM64 or Sunshine but they're definitely a lot better than Galaxy. I don't understand why people think Galaxy is so much better... All the levels were so linear.
I agree with the bads parts you talked about, there is just one thing I don't like about the game. When Mario's water pump is taken away, and starts a level, the song is sung by people while snapping their fingers lol it's a bit annoying to me
a good trick for the watermellon level is to take out the quadalacks(duck things). use the sand plant things. have one chase you and make it bump into the sprout. when its knocked out activate the sand things. it will send the quadelack in to the air and when it falls it WILL die. you can take out all of them on the beach but sadly you can't take out the ones close to the big watemellon
This game is the most (how should I say?) anti-depressing game I have ever played. You really do feel like you're on holiday when you play and everything is so relaxing with the right moods/atmosphere set upon each world. I actually want to buy a sealed copy of it to cherish forever. Without doubt, definitely in my top 10 games of all time and I've played a lot of games. I should note that my top consists of OoT, SM64, MK64, Super Smash Bros Melee etc and Mario Sunshine sits proudly with them.
I love this game. I definitely don't think it's better than Super Mario 64, and it is too similar to that game to me, but this game is a must have if you ask me. It's a vacation away from your problems and relaxing to play.
I think why people were so against the game is cause it was too modern. I, for one, LOVED the worlds on SM64 cause they were out of this world and nothing I have ever seen before. That shock factor towards the creativeness is what made/makes this game :D

for the watermellon mission u can squrit thoes enimies with water then jump on there heads and they will be knocked out for a while plus they give u a coin..... also mission is easy i got it on my first try.
Everything was fine with me. I even take the hotel area as a sort of boo themed vacation area, even though it's mainly vacation themed.
My biggest gripe was that the fire level wasn't big enough. I did get tired of the island and I did want some fire levels, and I only got a bit before fighting Bowser.
I did love the secret areas that you had to jump through without your FUD. Those were very fun because it forced you to rely on Mario's jumping skills. I did like hovering though.
I still can't understand why people had issues with this game - it's classic Mario. Everyone seemed too busy slating the camera system (which is acually fine) to bother noting how excellent it is.

There is a ton of water, and have you noticed that Mario is a horrible swimmer in this game??? I mean I haven't played mario 64 in quite a while, but I don't remember him being a bad swimmer like he is in this game.

How could you say that 64 is better than Sunshine!!! I hated 64 for the DS but thought it was okay for the original version. I will agree with you about the boat in Corona Mountain but not about the watermelon festival. All you have to do is push the watermelon down the path then push it off the cliff where there are no Cataquacks and push it to the restaurant. Overall I give Sunshine a 9/10.
Super mario sunshine was originally going to be super mario 64 2, but during development, it was scrapped due to myamoto (sorry about spelling) having an idea about mario, but with water.

If the Water Temple in Zelda taught us anything, Water levels should be few and far between...
Zelda WInd Waker had a water thing as well; Nintendo must have had a pool party right before designing Gamecube games...
Ice Levels will always be my favorite, or rare Sewer Levels

good: FLUDD was introduced, and with different nozzles, which was GREAT!
mario and yoshi are re-united (as mentioned in this video)
some of those "secret" levels remind me of wipeout courses, which were sooo fun! I was playing them all over and over again :D
bad: you ALWAYS had to use FLUDD except for secret levels, which was bad.
corona mountain and the watermelon level were too difficult
yoshi couldn't swim, and had a limitted time to be with mario before dying

and you said the camera was bad? in Mario 64 the camera was what got u killed most of the time it was a nightmare to keep at a decent angle and in Mario Galaxy u can't even adjust the camera.

i don't know why everyone says mario 64 is better. i have that game, and its ok, but i went over to my friends' house and played sunshine for like 20 minutes and i thought it was way better than mario 64, and i still do.

Well, if i was one of these trash talking NEWBz!!!!! I would say your dull-minded dumb. But im not :D But personally i dont think that you really captured the true super mario sunshine. I mean dont get me wrong i do agree it can be a bit annoying at times, and a bit overkill with the blue coins and such. But i personally favor this game over all others. Super mario 64 to me just was too closed and didnt at all have that real PUSH that i always wanted in a mario game

I love this game more than Galaxy. Sunshine seems too underrated. :/ Lots of memories with this game. One of my all time favorites.

How could you say that 64 is better than Sunshine!!! I hated 64 for the DS but thought it was okay for the original version. I will agree with you about the boat in Corona Mountain but not about the watermelon festival. All you have to do is push the watermelon down the path then push it off the cliff where there are no Cataquacks and push it to the restaurant. Overall I give Sunshine a 9/10.

Super mario sunshine was originally going to be super mario 64 2, but during development, it was scrapped due to myamoto (sorry about spelling) having an idea about mario, but with water.

You're obviously one of those fanboys who thinks that 64 is better than Sunshine because it's much easier.Sunshine was Re-released as a player's choice. But 64 never was.Don't review a game that you haven't even finished to see what happens at the end or think is, "too hard".
