  • Anybody that can't tell that Terran is the weakest race at the moment is clearly biased lol. I'm 100% Protoss(Platinum 1v1) and I admit it. But on the other hand, they were the strongest race pre patch so I enjoy watching them struggle now for a while xP But Blizzard seriously should put them inline with Toss and Zerg soon for the sake of balance... Too many terrans are swapping over to toss/zerg.

  • The significance of removing the energy for Thors/Corruptors is that templars can no longer use feedback on them. Imo this is a decent buff for TvP

  • @Coleamodeo Thor losing energy is a buff vs protoss, but all in all Terran is weaker Vs Protoss because of the rax requiring a supply depot.

    Care to explain why? Afaik, terrans usually build a supply depot first anyway. So only certain rush builds are affected.

  • HD, most protoss would put there cannons 1 hex back so the roach couldn't hit the cannon, but at the same time hit the roach if it attacked the forge/gateway.

    Now if they put it 1 hex back to protect it from being hit by the roach, they can just hit the gateway/forge, and if the cannon is right next to the building the roaches can easily come in and take out the cannon.

  • Not really huge changes, just more huge terran nerfs and zerg got 1 unit buffed lol. It's a pretty big buff though. 3 to 4 range on roaches basically is the difference between small range to medium good range.

  • @Luguolo you might be right about that... but really IMHO.. people can still use the proxy barracks with reapers quite effectively.. while at the same time savely transitioning into some kind of factory based tech/build... i think blizzard did the right thing by nerfing reapers just a tiny bit... they were simply overpowered... check the Morrow vs Idra IEM Grand finals match.. that's a perfect example of how OP reapers were.. take care and have a good one mate.. cheers!

  • What they are doing is slowly getting rid of early base harass. Which is good for the non rush players. They did the same thing in Star Craft 1. I have to admit a non reaper rush helps.

  • Usually protoss players leave space between their wall and their cannons. That's why roaches are more effective now.

  • I think the medivac speed reduction actually makes MMM easier; because before the medivac if you moved someone with your ball would always eventually end up ahead of the ball and thus would usually be picked off rather fast if you weren't paying attention.

    Now they slightly lag behind; but at least they aren't at the front and you don't need to put them into a different control group anymore to make sure they are behind your MM.

  • To correctly fast expand with that defence, you were supposed to put the cannons back 1 square frome the forge/gateway, otherwise they could be killed by roaches, even pre-patch

  • no there's no bug, i think you have to go grub a unit from the right side (blue team)

    and use a unit in red team to do those tests, cuz fungal growth doesn't do friendly fire.

  • I always found that medivacs ran out ahead unless you micro them to follow some marines or something. Voids i wouldnt say were OP other than for how good they are you should have to spend a little more on them or more pop. each. I like all of the building hp ups makes the game a little bit better paced to the map gives you the chance to get to it before it dies.

  • Gateways/forges are 3x3, so before if the canon was 1 square distance from the gateway/forge then the roach couldn't hit it, even right up against them. But if the roach were attacking the gateway/forge, its 3 range+3 for buildings+1 gap, is 7, canon could still hit. Now the protoss has to decide, either 1gap and have roaches attack blocking buildings or NO gap and roaches can hit canon.

    agreed, but overall, I despise the roach and the marauder mainly because they don't fit to well in the SC universe at all. In that same approach, I don't like that T nerf, I would have preferred a lot to see the OP marauder lose its slow, or its stim it would still have been a nice nerf. In the end what matters to me is that any race is equal on number of wins and number of players playing them, any other imbalance (like T's bunker rush ability) is ok with me.

  • Don't know if this has already been explained, but the reason the Thor and Corruptor special abilities work differently as far as cooldown is concerned is because the Corruption ability doesn't need to be researched, whereas the Strike Cannon does. So in essence, it's probably a timing balance decision.

    Also, the lack of energy bars goes beyond changing the economics of the special abilities. It is, in fact, more important that EMP and Feedback become useless against those units.

  • The reason the roaches were out of range in the first experiment but not in the second was because the roach was shooting from an angle, so it was slightly farther away. It's possible for a few of them in a good position to take down front buildings but it's still difficult.

  • Good fast review but I think HD could've spent a little more time thinking of all the implications of the changes, roaches were covered really well however.

    Also with the custom tool it would've been nice if you could have set up scenarios of old units vs new units =o)

  • The other big change of the Roach range buff is that it will not be almost impossible to kite them with Reapers and Hellions. The Reaper range is 4.5 and Hellion is 5, so they both still outrange Roaches but only by a tiny amount such that kiting will be MUCH harder.

    This, combined with the other Reaper nerfs, will make 5-rax Reaper vs. Zerg pretty much useless. The Reapers won't have speed so the Zerg won't need to get Roach speed to deal with them and also they won't be able to kite.

  • Cannon range is 7 and the Gateway/Forge takes two tiles. So if the cannon is touching the Gateway/Forge and the roach is attacking, it will be 4 tiles from the Gateway/Forge and 6 tiles from the cannon. So it will get hit. But the roach will not get his if it attacks from a diagonal.

  • @wotarmor No, medivacs only heal biological units, therefore terran air cannot be healed. To heal an air unit, you have to make your SCV's repair them.

  • Dono if anyone has pointed this out yet, but it would seem to me that the roach range increase is another huge nerf to reaper rush v zerg. Reapers have a range of 4.5, so it will be almost impossible to kite roaches now.

    I suck with reapers so I wouldn't know, but does anyone know any use for reapers anymore? (aside from taking watchtowers on Kulas ravine)

  • @sorrowfilledsunshine You shouldnt be fighting armored units with reapers anyways. They do bonus against light and buildings, so concentrate on those. Don't listen to reaper cheesers who are bitching about the update because I guarantee you, reapers still work. Reapers are still faster than roaches so just avoid them and snipe their drones/tech. The HP increase will force you to get a little more but it still isnt a big deal. Reapers still epic against protoss/terran.

  • Wrong. You still can cheese after the supply depot, but not that much effectively and easily as before. 9 rags into 10 rags/marine push on maps like steppes of war + ~ 5 SCVs was more than a joke..

  • @Koroush51 ...alot of high level terran plays usually get supply depot before barracks anyways... just look at TLO or select replays... odd occasion i see play where they begin building barracks just before supply finishes, but i cant see those few seconds really affecting terran early game by that much. i disagree with this patch helping new players, terran rushes have been a problem since the beta change was needed!

  • The fungal growth didn't work on the stalker because it was on the red team of units. fungal growth doesn't affect your own units.

  • The reason you couldn't fungal growth that stalker was because it was on your team. you had to go to the blue base on the other side of the map and make a stalker, then you could fungal it with the red infestor.

  • It's better to have the dropship behind though. I'd rather it be a little slower so that they can heal units and not be destroyed by enemy units and take fire.
