It would probably be wise to have lesson in freediving to understand how to descend. By looking at where you are heading to, you create a very flat and unhydrodynamic shape to push through the water. Also breath up should be almost motionless on the surface, relaxed and composed. Kicking and swimming as he was doing before diving never let his body recuperate it's oxygen.Good on the diver who met him on the way up!
It's just riddiculous, you spend a lot of money on the equipement and special stuff and can't even freedive safely to 30 metres. I'm from Croatia and I could dive to 20m with fins bought in a supermarket for 80 kuna when I was 14.
@redbull101991 okay, #1, you have terrible grammar, #2, you mispelled several things "equipement", "riddiculous", #3, what is a "metre"? i know what a meter is but a metre? really? and #4, no one even knows what the fuck a "kuna" is. Croatia sucks btw.
@Yousuck5867 that's not the point. You just showed that you are an ignorant and suck at geography. I at least learnt english on my own as well as 4 other languages.
@redbull101991 but, see, that's where you're wrong. that IS the point. if you can't even use correct grammar, how the fuck did you even get a job let alone get through school? and what the fuck does geography have to do with grammar? maybe you were saying people spell metre/meter wrong depending on where they are, but really? anyway, U.S.A. FTW!!! and you still didn't answer my question: what the fuck is a damn "kuna"?
@Yousuck5867 you are really dumb. First of all you should know english is not my native language because in Croatia we speak Croatian (WOW, THAT MUST BE A GREAT SURPRISE FOR YOU!). Secondly, if you are so dumb you can't use google, I'm not going to tell you what Kuna is. If you were smart enough you could guess it easily from my first comment.
@redbull101991 how would anyone not know that in croatia, you speak croatian? DURRRRR!!! English is the best language, who the fuck wants to speak croatian? no one, that's who. and I knew that a Kuna was some primitive form of currency, either that or a fish, i was just being a troll. congrats, you fed me dumbass. and I'm not dumb, i simply act dumb to elicit comments, such as yours, which i then flame the hell out of. if you don't understand a troll, ask anyone on this site
This was dumb and somebody should be dead. Risk is fine but suicide. Also your blood needs time wtf. Get training before anyone dies. It happens every single day.
Desculpe mas não gosto de caçadores subs e as vezes o MAR dá o troco. Sou um mergulhador scuba brasileiro e não gosto de ver gente matando os animais lá em baixo.
@mzdkTV yeah that is exactly what he said, he is probably one of those PETA people who eats grass, no meat, chicken or fish at all, i'm brazilian by the way but i do a lot of spearfishing and i do eat everything i catch what is usually just 1 or 2 fishes.
@mzdkTV not if he's using a drop weight. the point of the weight is so that you dont spend precious oxygen getting to the bottom. also, head position, hand and arm position, and a lot of other things come into play when trying to be aerodynamic which will make the drop and swim up that much easier. and remember, when your low on oxygen, its never a good idea to go clawing for the surface like that, you only burn whatever little oxygen you have left and add more CO2 which = blackout. dive safe
...not to mention a substantial risk of embolism. That was a crazy ascent, coupled by a rocket surface-break. Holy shit. Slow. It. Down. It's not like you were hauling a drowning victim to the surface. Christ.
@crankatorium no refs handy I suspect risk is much lower than compressed air diving, but there's risk. I once did something similar to try to rescue my brother's prescription goggles off the bottom, which was luckily only at 20m. I basically did a quick bounce down and back up again (under compressed air), to a bemused and slightly dirty look of a crew member. my bad. see:
@sqmuth not much of a risk for embolism and the bends unless your taking numerous drops below 27 meters and not allowing yourself enough time to recover on the surface.
@crankatorium as I understand it, the riskiest bit is as you're nearing the surface. (absolute pressure is changing most rapidly at that point). Since my temples, jugular, eyes, ears, etc. are up there in my noggin, and I tend to ascend head-first, I try to not break that last bit like a surfacing submarine. (unless I really let myself get out of breath, which ain't a good idea).
@MrDrunkenWookie not 100% sure as I was behind him and couldn't see his face - he might have even temporarily blacked out - but you can see his arm twitch
samba involves convulsive uncontrolled movement. he black out, well done to the diver who went to accompany him to the surface. Better thing to do is use the drop weight to the bottom and clip the gun to the drop weight line and swim up nice and chilled.
the first part of the video i thought he goes down with a spear gun, so i didnt understand why u said it was dropped.....but now i see is something else....whats that thing he goes down with?
weight? and when he is down....he left the weight down right? (and then from the surface u pull it up?)
i wish i had some weight that u can use it to go down (but untill then it floats)? when u see is enought depth to have fun with
@craksracing0com it's called a drop-weight. in this case it was a weight belt that attached to a 20m bungee. it helps you down and can be left there so it's easy to come up again. problem was he had too much weight on his belt that made it hard to come up. had he blacked out below the surface, he would have sunk down to the bottom.
fair enough - a few factors came together to make this a close one. 1. we underestimated the depth 2. his halfhearted finning at the start didn't give him enough momentum 3. he swam a curve instead of going straight down to it 4. he was way too heavy and struggled to get off the ground
In hindsight you're always smarter but it could have gone the other way...
awesome, few beers after that one
