  • Easy Goer ran these top 10 all time performances many, many times in his career, and he ran them at every distance he ran,6.5F,7F,8F,9F,10F,12F

  • Bloodhorse 2000 on Easy Goer. "Easy Goer met those dreams and expectations embodied in his powerful frame & authored an unforgettable Hall of Fame championship career, and will always be mentioned in the same breath with the GREATEST thoroughbreds of ALL TIME." Well said.

  • Colossal performance after colossal performance from Easy Goer.

  • Secretariat's Belmont was not start and stop, it was start and never stop at all going 12f. I agree somewhat about Slew and Bid. Slew did beat Affirmed twice that year. Bid's competition was not great(Flying Paster and Glorious were good but not great) and he did run those very fast races on highways. Though when Bid got beat by Affirmed at 3 yrs old, he got beat less than a length against an older horse. They all weren't Secretariat, never said they were.

  • Those amazing final times are amazing considering the pace in the 73' Derby and even the Preakness were moderate early pace's,47.2,1:11.8,1:36.2and 48.2,1:11.4 when he took the lead early in the race with no pace. Secretariat was great in slow paced races and fast paced races, and so was Easy Goer was also

  • @EASYGOER4LIFE I agree 100%. The Easy had the strength to excell in his final furlongs no matter what the pace. He was not in the shape, toned in and condition like Secretariat was in his Triple Crown races. I truly believe that. Maybe McGaughley was afraid to work him to hard because of his knees & ankles. I just do not know. They are a lot of stories still untold that we probably never know.

  • Sounds to me like Easy Goer had alot of that great finishing power and great final times and amazing performances that Secretariat had. Secretariat's Derby,Preakness and Belmont and Marlboro Cup races were out of this world, probably the best ever, and I don't care how fast the tracks were or were playing in either horse's races.

  • And also not only that, his own very young trainer at the time, like 36 yrs old, said he "babied him" in alot of his training, now maybe it was due to his extremely bad ankles, knees and club feet, I don't know. But you can't "baby him" going against a master trainer like a Whittingham or an Allen Jerkens or a Woody Stephens for that matter.

  • @EASYGOER4LIFE Like I said I believe his trainer did not train The Big Easy like Secretariat was. Guess I was right. I did not know his trainer babied him in his workouts. I do know he had a few very fast workouts. Those workouts were probably the ones he had before the races he did exceptionally well. When Secretariat had great workouts he always won and won big. His last workout 2 days before the Whitney was not impressive at all. McGaughhey did not get all of The Easy potential out of him.

  • What I mean by start and stop, start and stop, is that when Easy Goer made his huge move or was sent to make his his huge move, Day said" he would let him down and give him a breather". Easy Goer was big, powerhouse, locomotive, with long and powerful strides, it is my opinion that a horse like this, a horse like Easy Goer, should not have been ridden with baby hands, kid gloves, start then stop, start then stop "I let him down and gave him a breather" against SS specifically in two outs.

  • I don't know how many, if any at all, horses ran their last furlong in 11.2 in any race on DIRT and in a route race of 9f-12f? One trainer said he never saw any horse run a final furlong that fast in any route race(9f-12f) on dirt, even a slow paced one.He even did that in the Classic in a fast paced race.He came home usually in 23 and change or 24 for his final quarter miles in many races. McGaughey said he "babied him in training" & I think some Day's baby hands, stop&start rides cost him a bit

  • @EASYGOER4LIFE Slew had no competition to speak of as a 3 yr. old. Thats a fact. He was ill when Tobin beat him so said Steve Haskins but yet not sure if he would have beaten Tobins great run at day. Dont't know what Big Easy last furlong was ran but Secretariats was 12 4/5 and the last quarter in 25 flat. Big Easy last quarter in 25 1/5.

  • @EASYGOER4LIFE

Not so fast good buddy. Christine article not so fast, Cigar:actual time of breeders cup split corrected. In this article Christine quoted:Secretariat, whose estimated time for the last quarter-mile of the Kentucky Derby was also 22 4/5 seconds, on a fast track. Secretariat's come-home time for the Derby is not exact because the time for the first mile was for Sham, who led Secretariat by 1 1/2 lengths at the quarter pole. End of quote. Cont.

  • @EASYGOER4LIFE As you know they said he ran the last quarter in 23 flat. The timer did not read 1/100th of a second back then. Running a 23 flat last quarter then both of his last 2 furlongs were 11.50 average. Don't know his actual eight splits but if both were not 11.50 each then one of them would had to be 11.40 which is 11 2/5 and the other 11.60 or 11 3/5 time. And if it was 22 4/5 as Chrisitne estimated then he ran 2 straight 11.2 furlongs in a 1 1/4 mile race taking the long route.Cont.

  • @EASYGOER4LIFE Or it could have been a 11 flat running the 9 furlongs and a 12 last furlong for a 23 flat last quarter or the other way round. Got to check it out and let you know.

  • I will agree somewhat about Slew and Bid, except for the fact that they were able to come back and be great 4 year olds, something that Easy Goer only running in a few races when his very bad ankles got to him, and Secretariat being retired, didn't have much a chance,or any chance. It would have been great to see a healthy, sound Easy Goer as a 4 yr old,and Secretariat also, but I think that they would have made him carry&give away aloy of weight.I am not a fan of handicapping any horse with weight

  • @EASYGOER4LIFE The Bid had no competition at all when he ran at 4 to speak of. He was a very fast horse but forget his 1 1/2 mile races. He isn't even close to the stamina of a Easy Goer. He never had the times of Easy Goer in a 1 1/4 mile race as Easy Goer as a 3 yr. old. Both at 3 Easy Goer the fastest and faster than Slew. Slew in the M.C. was totally driven out & the video proves it & is listed as such on the DRF chart. Still a great time & take nothing away from him but these are the facts.

  • @EASYGOER4LIFE I guess Secretariat was a great stop and start horse with no pun intended. His eights in the Belmont were: 12 1/5,11 2/5, 11 2/5 11 1/5, 12, 11 3/5, 12 1/5, 12 1/5,12, 12 4/5, 12 1/5 and 12 4/5.

  • Now whatever it was, a 122,124,126 in the Belmont, it is also interesting to note that Easy Goer beyered a 121 in that Whitney, a 124 in the Travers, around a 120 in that Gotham. And also interesting to note, beyer gave Easy Goer a 120 beyer in the slowly run Jockey Club Gold Cup,run in 2:29 which would be considered slow by Easy Goer's standards, but the track was playing extremely slow(like a 24 var), of course the 124 in the loss to SS in the Classic. A 122 in his Suburban

  • Well true, but he still got beat 9 or 10 lengths in the race. In a 12f race, getting beat 9 lengths or so, I don't know, but I think that is a lot of beyer points lower, maybe 15-18 beyer points lower because of the distance of 12f? I also read that article where beyer gave him a 122. There have been some conflicting beyer numbers reported. In Ray Paulick's book on Sunday Silence, it is listed I think at 124, and I read somewhere else it was a 126,but no higher than that.

  • Andy Beyer in the Washington Post and Schenectady Gazette, "The tracks may have been fast, but they were NOT at all freaky, souped up kind of fast at all and from the speed-handicapping standpoint, Easy Goer ran even BETTER,faster, than Affirmed,Alydar,Slew and Bid."

  • @EASYGOER4LIFE Not because Beyer assigned Secretariat a high speed figure I always thought his system was pretty darn good looking at it in 1973. The reason was he was asked before the Preakness what would Secretariat time would be. He said 1:53 2/5. That was one hell of a lucking guess or he was pretty damm good at what he was doing.I am going to look into the matter why Easy Goer had gotten a 122 Belmont Beyer speed figure. Something don't add yp.

  • @EASYGOER4LIFE I don't believe it was freaky fast either but it was fast enough for a horse name Le Voyageur to finish around a 2:27 4/5 time 1 length behind S.S.. In his last race in April he finished last in a 1 1/2 mile race. He lost 3 stragiht after the Belmont & did not even place. Not sure how many races or any at all he ever won. S.S. also ran a very good time in about 2:27 3/5. Le Voyageur was also the longest price on the board going into that race. His Belmont was his 1st race on dirt.

  • Beyer said himself and through his speed figures that Easy Goer was the fastest two year old of the 1980's or 90's or 2000's, probably the fastest two year old since 1972 and Secretariat. Beyer also said Easy Goer's Belmont was the greatest, fastest, and best Belmont since Secretariat, better than Slew,Affirmed, all of them.Easy Goer's performances are still probably the fastest, best since Spectacular Bid.

  • @EASYGOER4LIFE Andy Beyer is correct. I don believe Andy ever bothered to assign Spectacular Bid a speed figure. Slew was overrated and never showed the speed The Big Easy ever had. The Beyer speed figure given to Easy Goer of 122 is a bit puzzling yo me as well. Not sure but believe the reason Secretariat got the big 139 was the fast fractions he had played a role in it. Not sure. The Easy also had amazing fractions as well. Feel that figure should have been much higher.

  • I have forgotten about the track variants, I just listed the true facts in the final times in all the undercard races, these are the true facts, not opinions and variants. I wonder why beyer gave Easy Goer all those ridiculously high 120 and faster beyers then if he concluded the track was that fast. He got 120 and faster beyers in all of these.Easy Goer was the fastest horse since Spectacular Bid because he ran so many of these races time and time again.

  • We have left and forgotten about the variants. We are now talking about the true facts of the final times I just listed to you. The true facts are the final times on the undercard .Those are the true facts, the final times on the undercard I just listed

  • @EASYGOER4LIFE Richard A. Cardenas M.S. stated. The practice of using DRF variants to estimate track speed has long been under scrutiny by those who are in the business of estimating the abilities of Thoroughbreds. Handicapper George Kaywood said handicappers struggle with track variants and are usually inaccurate. He said homemade figures are usually better. Yes, the handicapper has forgotten about the variants and they know why.

  • The final times I just listed are the TRUE FACTS!! Not the opinions of writers and trainers. The FINAL TIMES of the undercard races are the TRUE FACTS!! Not opinions of writers and trainers.

  • You want to listen to Crist about everything? He said EG had a legit excuse in the Derby, a muddy track he hated and couldn't handle, and in the Preakness a poor ride, premture move. Crist also said Easy Goer would be mentioned in the same breath with Secretariat,Man O'War and Citation, if only for these legit excuses I just mentioned. Is Crist correct on this?

  • 1989 Gotham undercard. Claimers and maidens ran the same 8f distance in 1:38.6, over 1:38,over 6 seconds slower than EG or 30 lengths. Allowance horses ran over 1:36,and allowance nW3X ran in 1:35.4. Where is the lightning fast track?

  • I am going to repeat the final times on the undercard for you since you don't get it: 1989 Whitney undercard.Allowance horses ran the same 9f distance in 1:52.4 and maidens ran the same 9f distance in just under 1:52 and 7f races went in over 1:22 and change, still 2 seconds off tr.record! Where is the lightning fast track? Use your commonsense

  • I just listed you the final times for the undercard races for the 1989 Whitney,Gotham and Belmont Stakes, and you tell me what is your conclusion of how fast the track was playing those days with these final times. These charts are in my DRF papers from back in 1989. Let me know if you need these undercard final times repeated? Sure,EG only ran his final furlong in 11.2,b/c maiden and allowance horses on the card ran 9f in 1:52.4?Makes no sense, but I will give you those undercard times again.

  • @EASYGOER4LIFE Whitney Tower quote: After an all-night rain, the sun and wind dried out the track to the point where it was wet-fast, as they say in racing circles. Riva Ridge, who would have been scratched had the track come up truly off, may have disliked the surface more than most. Mary Florsheim Jones, owner of Cougar, was not nearly so sanguine. "I think Cougar has had it," she said. "He hates anything but real fast.Riva Ridge, who had run well himself on a track he did not fancy,

  • @EASYGOER4LIFE Now does that quote from sports Illiustrated Whitney Tower indicate anything like that track was running lightning fast my good man? He was there the day before the race and was there watching it, seen the track and left sometime well after the race and you want to say that track was lightning fast? I believe this information without a doubt is better than any variant # put on a chart. Flush those variant #'s and flush them down a toliet my friend. They don't tell the true facts.

  • I DID EXACTLY that, I did RESEARCH the truth, and went into my DRF papers for the charts of these 3 days, and I listed you the undercard races and races and final times. Now that I have given the times of the undercard races, what is your own conclusion." After all, you listen to Crist, he said EG had legitamat excuse in the Derby,a muddy track he hated and didn't handle,&Preakness-poor ride, premature move,& he said Easy Goer should be in the same breath as Secretariat, except for Day's rides

  • @EASYGOER4LIFE You do not understand track variants my friend. The DRF variants are not the gospel. Its only estimated how fast the track is running. There are many factors put into a track variant. Why would Crist of the DRF make such a statement that the track was 'Spectaculary fast that day if it wasn' the truth and he was not the only one that said so? In the next post I will quote SI Whitney Tower what he stated about the track in Big Reds M.C. race. Tell me if it was real fast.

  • By me showing you the charts and times for these "fast" tracks, this should put to bed this thing that Easy Goer only ran amazingly and brilliantly fast time after time, many times in his life at every distance he ran,6.5f,7f,8f twice,9f,10f twice,12f,because of "fast" tracks. Just read the charts and times of the undercard races on these days. I can guarantee they were not as lightning fast of tracks as Sec ran over in the Belmont,Gotham,Marlboro Cup. Guarantee, just like at the undercard times

  • Also turn that around, people can't quote what many of the experts state in a different take and you now don't agree with these experts just listed? You, yourself have been on here for 2 years calling Day's riding awful, and EG a top 10 horse which Day's riding cost him in two outs. Now you are changing?

  • @EASYGOER4LIFE I only change when I learn the facts. I research the truth. You go and tell Crist, Finley, Miller and Easy Goer trainer McGaughey them Gotham and Whitney tracks were not lightning fast. Tell them to look at the charts. Crist was the editor in chief of the DRF. He clearly said the Gotham was 'Spectaculary fast did he not? Was Crist lieing? Tell him he was a lair. I showed BigCy that Eddie Arcaro said Secretariat better than Citation. He deny it when truth stared him in his face.

  • @EASYGOER4LIFE If you know about track variants they change from week to week, day to day and from hour to hour. Any handicapper will tell you that. I never once said Easy Goer ran a faster track at Belmont. I only said it was the Gotham and Whitney races were I found the evidence. Forego ran the race just before Secretariat and the variant was .10 and DRF had .05 by the next race which was in error. End of the days races it showed .05. You need to some research bad my good man.

  • On the 1989 Gotham undercard, maidens ran in 1:38.6 for a mile. Allowance horses ran in 1:36.6 for a mile, and top level allowance NW3X ran in 1:35.6!Where is this overly spectacular fast track?? The variant of 14 was correct. On the 1989 Belmont undercard, horses ran 7f in 1:23.8, stakes horses(G1,G2) ran 9f in 1:48 and change, and a horse ran 8f in 1:36.2,6f in 1:10.2,and G1-G2 stakes horse ran 1:22.2. Where is this supposed lightning fast track EG ran over in all 3 races? Check the charts

  • Just looked at the charts of the 1989 Whitney undercard races in my DRF charts in the paper. Here is this supposed "fast" track you read about: The undercard races. Maidens ran the same 9f distance in just under 1:52!Is that lightning fast? Allowance horses ran the same 9f distance in 1:52.4!Is that lightning fast??And 7f races went in 1:22.6,still over 2 full seconds off the track record. The 12 variant is correct.Where is this supposed "fast"track by looking at the times?

  • You still haven't proved at all that Easy Goer's Belmont,Whitney and Gotham tracks were any faster than the lightning fast tracks Secretariat ran over in the Gotham,Belmont and Marlboro Cup. You have and cannot prove that they were faster at all.Even you say Secretariat's Belmont was run over an 09. His Gotham and Marlboro Cup were just AS FAST as EG's tracks, if not faster.

  • No doubt in my mind that Easy Goer was a top ten thorobred when it comes to talent,ability,constitution,speed-stamina combo, and the clear evidence of this came from his many, many top ten performances at all distances, but the 2 typically atrocious Pat Day rides(and being outridden&schooled)that got him beat a nose and desperation neck in 2 races put him into the thirties where another great ss was and he ended up.

  • All these "experts" articles and what they said are just stating the obvious about Pat Day's typically atrocious riding. You put Cordero,Pincay,Bailey on Easy Goer and EG never gets beat a nose and desperation neck in 2 races due to being schooled, outridden and typically atrocious Pat Day riding. Pat Day's typically atrocious riding cost so many horses big races, eclipse awards,etc- Sky Classic,Easy Goer,Java Gold,Turkoman,Forty Niner,Menifee,Heavenly Prize,SeekingtheGold,Surfside,Banshee Breeze

  • There are some expert's articles you can read from both coasts. After you read that check out Joe Drape's book titled, "Race for the Triple Crown", there is a good portion of a chapter in the book focusing on Pat Day's "passive, deliberate, horrible,I gave him a breather around the far turn" riding and it costing many great horses. Even when Day showed an ounce,a millimeter of aggression,he would let horses down and give breathers. Day's riding was horrible.

  • Christine also had an article in Nov.89' titled,"It's time Easy Goer get a different rider." And in Nov.7,89', Edwin Pope stated correctly,IMO, "Pat Day cost Easy Goer a full head of steam on the backstretch("I gave him a breather around the far turn"), Day put out the fire of a splendid colt in full flame. If Day and McCarron switched mounts, Easy Goer's champion red chestnut head would be fitted today for the crown of all of racing."

  • June 5, 1989 Bill Christine article on the Preakness titled, "Valenzuela's aggressiveness OVERWHELMS Day's usual patience." In the article, Christine correctly states,IMO, that Pat Day made 3 big mistakes to cost him the race by a whisker in 1:53 4/5, and Valenzuela made 2 correct moves to help him win. In Dave Joseph's article on Nov.5,89', Day is quoted as saying "When SS went around the far turn,I gave EG a breather." Same horrible ride and thing he did in the Preakness indeed.

  • Edwin Pope on Day's ride in the Classic. Paul Moran calling Day's riding of Easy Goer " like the exposed end of a live electrical wire". Etc, etc. Nack's video here on Youtube titled "Preakness Stakes Greatest Moments".

  • Tr.Variants take into account BOTH how fast the track is, and the quality of horses, both. You still cannot prove that Easy Goer's Belmont,Gotham,Whitney tracks with slower variants were any faster than Secretariat's Belmont,Gotham and Marlboro Cup tracks. And you omit handfuls of what experts say,and take only the bits and pieces you want out of them.

  • Bill Nack on video right here on Youtube, the video is titled, "Preakness Stakes Greatest Moments" from ntra...Nack says Day grabbed too much right line and it cost him the race by a flare of a nostril. Did you read what Nack wrote about Easy Goer's Belmont also? And you only quote Bill Nack? How about ALL the other experts? Christine on the Preakness. Steve Crist. Paul Moran. Edwin Pope.Dave Joseph.Mike Watchmaker.

  • Also, if you think Easy Goer ran ALL of these amazingly, brilliant and fast races because of tracks, you are kidding yourself.Same thing for Secretariat's lightning fast tracks he ran over a few times as well.Believe me,Easy Goer didn't run all these amazingly brilliant and fast races because of tracks.Easy Goer had these amazing performances at 6.5f,7f,8f twice,9f,10f twice,12f. All distances he ran,he had them.If Bid Red 3 wasn't Secretariat or Man O'War,that is ok,he wasn't,but he was up there

  • What the experts say? What the experts say? You care what the experts said about Pat Day's awful rides, or his awful ankles which looked like osselets one expert trainer said, or that he had colic the day of the Classic? The experts said all these things. If you go by the experts for one topic, go by the experts for all topics. Steve Crist,Edwin Pope,Nack,Mike Watchmaker,Bill Christine was immensely critical of Day's awful ride in the Preakness. Etc. It is either all or none then,w/experts.

  • The track variant takes BOTH how fast the track is playing and the class of horses, both.Simple fact: You cannot prove at all that Easy Goer's Belmont,Whitney and Gotham tracks are any faster than Secretariat's Gotham,Belmont and Marlboro Cup tracks.

  • I am not negsative about Easy Goer or any horse. What is negative in what I am posting? I did not tell any lie on The Easy. I only quote what the experts say and if that is negative the experts is negative. I am only discussing the facts and nothing else. To many are just to touching here when the truth is told.

  • Easy Goer also carried 122 is his Woodward, while SEC carried only 119! What is up with that??? EG and SEC carried the same 119 in their Whitney's, yet EG carried 122 in his Woodward, while SEC carried only 119 in his Woodward. How can that be

  • Facts: Secretariat carried the same 119 in his Whitney!!! Facts: You cannot prove at all that Easy Goer's Belmont-13 var,Gotham-14 var and Whitney-12 var tracks were any faster than Secretariat's Gotham 08 var,Belmont 05 or 09 var, Marlboro Cup-07var. Whether you use tr.variants or not, there is NO WAY that you can say or prove those tracks were any faster, and don't go by what people say if you are not going to use the tr.variants or only use them sometimes.

  • Have you figured out yet that Saratoga is MUCH SLOWER than Belmont. In fact, 2 seconds slower. The track records at Saratoga were 1:47 for 9f, and 2:00 for 10f. At Belmont, the track records are 1:45.2 for 9f, and 1:58.1 for 10f

  • Secretariat's Belmont,Gotham and Marlboro Cup were ALSO run on lightning fast tracks also, and they were not an ounce or any "slower" than Easy Goer's tracks in the Belmont,Whitney and Gotham. All six of these were run over lightning fast tracks. You cannot prove at all they were any faster by what people said or didn't say about them. If you don't accept the track variants, then don't accept what people say about them

  • Believe me when I say this, take away all your bias for or against all horses. Easy Goer's Gotham record mile, Whitney and Belmont were not any faster tracks than Secretariat's Gotham,Belmont and Marlboro Cup. Believe me, that is the truth. Easy Goer wouldn't have beyered 126,125 if the tracks were as fast as everybody says in words.

  • The tr.variant was still a 12.What or how many horses can run the final furlong in 11.2 and come home a final time in near track record off a dawdling, slow pace of 48.1, 1:12,and 1:36, 1:47.2, final eighth in 11.2?? How many horses? You are now saying that all of Easy Goer's amazing final times were products of this/that. Secretariat's Belmont,Gotham,Marlboro Cup were run on very fast fast tracks also, and nobody takes an ounce away from him,and should not for Easy Goer also.Neither should you

  • Also the track records at Saratoga were 1:47 for 9f, and 2:00 for 10f. Saratoga is much slower than Belmont, the track records at Belmont are 1:58.1 for 10f, and 1:45.2 for 9f. The Saratoga track plays around 2 seconds slower than Belmont Park. Even Aqueduct the 9f track record is 1:47,and the 10f is 1:59.2.

  • Read the DRF, in Easy Goer's Whitney, the mile fraction was 1:36, and the final time was 1:47.2, Easy Goer came home in an amazing 11.2 in the Whitney, the tr. record was 1:47 flat at Saratoga for 9f. His gallop out was caught by Watchmaker back then in sub 2:00. Though he was hand ridden,he kept going past the wire ridden out after the wire, prepping for the 10f Travers 2 weeks later with that amazing gallop out

  • @EASYGOER4LIFE Remember Secretariat ran his M.C. with a blistering pace at 1:09 2/5 at 6 furlongs, 1:33 at 8 furlongs not the 1:36 on a lightning fast track as The Easy done in the Whitney. Secretariat workout in 'MUD' source Steve Haskins a week before the Whitney. Splits 1:09 1/5, 1:21 3/5, 1:34 flat mile And gallop out time in 1:47 4/5 2 ticks off The Easy time and done in 'MUD' and not on a lightning fast track. A Saratoga record at the time.

  • The simple fact is that Easy Goer,of course not AS great as Sec,but Easy Goer didn't run all these amazingly brilliant races because of this or that, record 3 yrold mile of all time in 1:32.2,proved that wasn't a fluke by running among the top 5 all time fastest Chamapagnes also at 8f,near tr. record at 6.5f,fastest 7f of the year in Florida, second fastest Belmont of all time, among the top 3-5 fastest all time runnings of Whitney at9f,Travers at10f,Suburban at10f,he covered all distances

  • You are on the wrong video debating track variants, which were higher and which were lower, people can only go by what it says in the DRF past performances for each horse. Easy Goer wouldn't have had all those astronomical beyers and final times and great performances if it was about how fast or slow the tracks were playing, and the same goes for Secretariat's phenomenal performances. There is no need to debate variants here, those are for haters of both horses.

  • Easy Goer ran his final furlong in 11 seconds or 11.1 in the Whitney and was only really rolling the last furlong as he was blocked behind a wall of horses by Day,and was still rolling after the wire, the track record at the time was 1:47 flat.....Watchmaker,I believe, caught his gallop out in the Whitney in 11.4 for that 1:58.4, maybe 1:59, but I know it was under the tr.record of 2:00flat. The race used to be on here on Youtube to see it. Galloped out in 1:45.4 in the Gotham record mile

  • Easy Goer wasn't SEC but he did have that top 10 ability to me and many. Easy Goer ran that record 3 yr old mile of all time in 1:32.2),a blink off Fager''s world record, second fastest Belmont of all time, near 6.5tr. record, fastest 7f of the yr in Florida, among the top 5 all time fastest Champagnes, among the top 3-5 fastest all time runnings of all time in the Whitney at 9f,Travers at 10f,Suburban at 10f,&even 1:53.4 in nostril Preakness l.Remember,Day's start&stop, start&stop was awful

  • @EASYGOER4LIFE You just cannoit be 'Bias' to one horse and only tell half of the story, Let the chips fall were they may even if its on Secretariat. Its the facts no matter what. I never read were The Easy was not a stop and go horse. Never heard of any horse not being a stop and go horse. Were did this one come from? Christine did not say get another rider. He had a ? mark after that but clearly said S.S. was better at 1 1/4 mile.

  • @EASYGOER4LIFE You or someone here mention the track variant was much faster in Secretarisat Belmont. Yes, it did show .05 but let tell the rest of the story by the experts Beyer and DRF Crist and Watchmaker. Its a well know fact that variant used to figure his speed rating was .09 not the .05 which was found to be in error. Also stated in Nack book that the track was running 4/5 of a second slower. .09 is not lightning fast track and never mention by experts that Belmont day as such.

  • @EASYGOER4LIFE Secretariat was also battling a strong headwind in the back strecth on Belmont day and will find that statement in the DRF chart as well as seeing it on video I know no one said The Easy was better than Secretariat but why in the world if thats so I never see none of you over at the Secretariat videos giving him the praise you give Easy Goer here. I am still stracthing my head on this one.

  • And now that we've quoted plenty of other experts. Nobody has ever said Easy Goer was as great as SEC, but he wasn't as far off as some rankings. And it was mainly that Pat Day didn't realize that Easy Goer was NOT a start and stop, start and stop "I gave him a breather around the far turn" horse, and that was not the way to beat a great in SS.Maybe not all Day, his trainer said he "babied him too much in training", but that could be because of his horrible ankles and knees and clubfeet.

  • @EASYGOER4LIFE Spectacular Bid never came close to running a 2 minute 1 1/4 mile. until he hit the super duper fast track at Santa Anita.Same as the Hawkster running that super duper lightning track at Santa Anita in 2:22 4/5. The announcer at that race make a point of saying it after the race. The same as Bill Finely & trainer The Easy Gotham who doubted the time because of the fast track. Not know why you never mention that but always mention what others say about Day my good man..

  • June 5, 1989 from Bill Christine of the LA Times on the Preakness. "Valenzuela's aggressive riding OVERWHELMS Day's usual patience". "He states and I agree that Day made 3 big mistakes in the race, while Valenzuela made 2 correct moves to help him win." And that same Christine article on Nov.8,1989 he states "it's time EG gets a different rider." You also had people in the article saying "Day's riding was bad &that he didn't know how EG could such a great horse with those terrible ankles."

  • November 7, 1989| Garr Kluender's article quoting Edwin Pope of the Miami Herald and heralded racing writer. "After falling asleep for the first 6f of the race and giving EG much too do, Pat Day cost EG a full head of steam down the backside(Day-"I gave him a breather around the far turn").He put out the fire of a great champ in full flame("I gave him a breather").If Day&McCarron switched mountsor Cordero or Pincay rode EG,EG never loses by a desperate neck."

  • November 5, 1989| Dave Joseph article

In the article, Pat Day says again(same thing in the Preakness in 1:53.4 nose) "When SS went around the far turn, I got him a breather". Day never realized that Easy Goer was not a start and stop, start and stop, "I gave him a breather around the far turn" horse. EG was a big, powerful horse, and that wasn't the way to beat another great in SS.

  • Gallop out times are great, but Easy Goer also galloped out in like 1:45.4 which would have destroyed Riva Ridge's 9f track record of 1:47. Easy Goer also galloped out at Saratoga in the Whitney in something like 1:58.4, which would have also obliterated the track record of 2:00 at Saratoga still held by General Assembly. SS was also another great horse who was the only horse who could take adv.(nostril&desperate neck) of this start and stop, "I gave him a breather" Day riding

  • @EASYGOER4LIFE Don't know how in the world you figure a 1:58 4/5 gallop out time for The Easy in the Whitney after running 9 furlongs in 1:47.40. Don't you realize he would had to run a 11.40 gallop out time to finish in a 1:58.80 1 1/4 mile? Big Red out time in the M.C. was 12:40 after running a 1:45.40 1 1/8 mile. I believe your about 2 seconds or more off. Its more like a 2 min. 2/5th of a second or more.General Assembly ran that Travers 2 flat in slop.

  • Easy Goer and SS ran 1:53.4 in the Preakness, I think it was there. 1:53.4 is just off Secretariat, and just off the Preakness stakes record. The problem was he was completely out ridden and gave EG an awful ride. The awful ride was after that big move, Day says " I gave him a breather and let him down around the far turn", and that is exactly what Day did in the Classic. You yourself said Day's riding was awful. Day did not realize that Easy Goer was NOT a start and stop horse

  • Easy Goer was not Secretariat, I agree, but he wasn't far off. Easy Goer ran the fastest 3 yr old mile of all time in 1:32.2,a blink off Fager's world record, ran the second fastest Belmont of all time, ran near tr. record at 6.5f at two,ran the fastest 7f of the year in Florida, ran among the top 5 all time fastest Champagnes at 8f at two,ran among the top 3-5 all time fastest runnings of the Whitney,Travers,Suburban, and even Preakness nostril loss in 1:53.4

  • @EASYGOER4LIFE As you may know Secretariat was only 3 ticks from Easy Goer 1:32 2/5 when he passed the 1 mile post in the M.C.. That race was not from the chute. Not only that with only 4 workouts in 2 wks. coming off a serious illness he was not in top form. Beyer said he was not in top form like he was in he T.C. races. DRF Charles Hatton said he was clocked another furlong running the 1 1/4 mile pulling up in 1:57 4/5 a WR time only The Bid did from the chute at Santa Anita Park. at age 4.

  • Easy Goer wasn't Secretariat my good man, I agree, but Easy Goer did have that top 10 racehorse ability and speed and stamina and talent. Like the Bloodhorse top 100 book states in the Easy Goer article, "Easy Goer will always be mentioned in the same breath with the greatest of ALL TIME." And this is despite the awful kid gloves and baby hands, and "I gave him a breather around the far turn" riding that cost him by a nostril &desperate neck against an also great in SS.

  • And having said all this about. Joe Hirsch and Steve Crist back up my opinions on this: "Easy Goer would be mentioned in the same reverential breath as Citation,Man O'War and Secretariat(not better or as great at all),and his campaign acclaimed one of the greatest campaigns of all time, if not for the 2 typically atrocious Pat Day rides that got him beat a nose and desperation neck vs. another great in ss."

  • And also, I said that Easy Goer was always undoubtedly a top ten all time thorobred in talent,ability,constitution,speed-stamina combo, with the clear proof of that coming from his many, many top ten performances at every distance,6.5F,7F,8F,9F,10F,12F,but the 2(TWO)typically atrocious Pat Day rides that got him beat a nose and desperation neck in 2 races put him down into the thirties where another great in ss always belonged.

  • No, I still don't think and I have never said Easy Goer was as great as Secretariat. And you don't know about Easy Goer's health problems: Easy Goer had the worst, most problematic, grapefruit size ankles and knees that even your Bill Nack said "Looked like swollen avocados, all misshapen&lumpy,a testament to his greatness."Easy Goer also had small cracks in his front feet during Triple Crown time that almost caused Shug to scratch.EG also colicked the day of the Classic.Still 2 atrocious rides tho

  • #1-I never said Easy Goer lost 3 races due to typically atrocious Pat Day rides.I said 2 typically atrocious Pat Day rides got him beat a nose and desperation neck in 2 races #2 You have been on here for years calling Day's riding just atrocious in the Preakness&Classic vs. another great horse in ss.#3 Easy Goer's Belmont was a 126, which still doesn't match Secretariat's, though the ragozin(which takes into account ground loss, how fast a track was playing, weight, etc)gave EG the same as Sec.

  • Also,Easy Goer was one of the rare all time greats that combined blazing record speed at a mile(record 3 yr old mile of all time in 1:32)and shorter distances(near track record at 6.5f at two, fastest 7f of the year in Florida, among the top 5 fastest Champagnes of all time at 8f),with a thoroughly superb stamina, second fastest Belmont of all time with only Secretariat ever faster, near track records in the Whitney at 9f,Travers at 10f,Suburban at 10f.

  • @EASYGOER4LIFE Its a fact Easy Goer had the more raw speed and Stamina than S.S. I truly believe his trainer did not have him in top form with good hard workouts. He could have taken then hard workouts like Secretariat did if given to him. He just was not primed like Secretariat was in his T.,C. races. It was all there for him and it just wasn't Day my good man. He rode him but he sure did not train him. This is my opinion and might be wrong.

  • At any rate, it is pretty easy to figure out why the Bloodhorse Top 100 book correctly states in the Easy Goer article, "Hall of Fame champion EASY GOER will ALWAYS be mentioned in the same breath with the GREATEST of ALL TIME", and that is despite the nostril and desperate neck defeats to awful baby hands and kid gloves rides against another great in S.S."

  • Good point Del Mar. Easy Goer and S.S are both considered amongst the greatest, and some " ", who just routed S.S. by eight lengths in the second fastest Belmont of all time with only Secretariat faster,a few weeks after a nostril loss due to Day's awful riding.

  • But the truth's been stated: "Easy Goer would be mentioned in the same reverential breath as Citation(lost 4 of 5 to Noor),Secretariat(lost 3 races at 3),Kelso(lost 3 of 4 to Beau Purple),Dr Fager(lost 2 of 4 to Damascus),Man OWar,Forego(lost 2 of 3 to Wajima),and his campaign acclaimed the greatest in racing history,if not for the typically atrocious Pat Day rides that got him beat a nose and desperation neck in 2 races vs. a top horse in SS."

  • LOL! Citation lost 4 of 5 races to his bitch Noor, and lost 13 career races! Secretariat lost 3 races at 3 in the Woodward,Whitney and Wood Memorial. Kelso lost 3 of 4 to his bitch Beau Purple and lost 24 races!Dr Fager lost 2 of 4 to his bitch Damascus. Forego lost 2 of 3 to his b" Big Spruce and lost 23 races!Bid lost his two biggest races in the Belmont &Jockey Club. Affirmed lost 7 races. Buckpasser lost 6 races.

  • Also, as the Bloodhorse top 100 book correctly states in the Easy Goer article, "Hall of Fame champion Easy Goer will always and forever be mentioned in the same breath with the greatest of all time", and that is in spite of the awful kid gloves and baby hands rides that cost him by a nostril and desperate neck in two outs.

  • But Easy Goer was always undoubtedly a top ten all time thorobred in ability,talent,constitution,speed- stamina combo, with all those top ten all time performances as proof, but the 2 typically atrocious Pat Day rides that got him beat a nose and desperation neck in 2 races put him down into the thirties where ss always belonged.

  • Kind of like choosing Citation(lost 4 of 5 to Noor). Kelso(lost 3 of 4 to Beau Purple). Dr Fager(lost 2 of 4 to Damascus). John Henry(lost 2 of 3 to Mehmet). Forego(Lost 2 of 3 to Big Spruce). Or choose Secretariat losing 3 times as a 3 year old also.

  • Easy Goer was a towering, great miler. He was a towering, overwhelming sprinter. He was a towering, overwhelming, great router. Easy Goer was a towering, powerful and great mile and a half beast also. An all time great.

  • Im from the UK and love Easy Goer, great miler! How bad is that commentary tho!!!

  • Easy Goer, one of the rare all time great Hall of Fame champions who combined blazing record speed at a mile and at shorter distances(fastest three year old mile of all time in 1:32,near track record at 6.5f at two, among the top 5 all time fastest Champagnes at 8f,fastest 7f of the year in Florida in 89') with a thoroughly supreme and amazing stamina to run the second fastest Belmont Stakes of all time,&ran every distance in between supremely(near tr.records in Whitney,Travers&Suburban at 9f10f)

  • Easy Goer, the greatest performance in any triple crown race since Secretariat 40 years ago, and he indeed did put out so many of these all time great performances in his career at every distance of ground.

  • Easy Goer's record three year old mile of all time in 1:32.2, thrashing Secretariat's record by one full second, a tick off the world record of Dr. Fager, and this devastating, monster, second fastest Belmont Stakes of all time behind only Secretariat, are the two greatest performances since Spectacular Bid in 1980, and Easy Goer's 89' Whitney and Travers are truly not far off these two.

  • Easy Goer's place in the pantheon of all time greats is very secure, and that is even with the despicably bad riding that cost him by an inch and desperate neck in two races vs. s.s. Overwhelming all time great, Easy Goer.

  • YEAH EASY GOER. FUCK SUNDAY SILENCE!

  • Towering performance after towering performance by Easy Goer, phenomenal performances, truly a phenom.

  • What happened to PARTYMANNERS GREAT UPLOADS I MISS so badly !

  • @johnnyblack1974 Definitely agree with you!! It would be great if you could post all, or as many as you can, of Easy Goer's races/wins. I believe that that the user who had all of his races posted had their account suspended or terminated or something.

  • I think Easy Goer would have beaten Dr. Fager between a mile and a 1 1/4. He almost beat his mile record as a three-year-old, which shows the tremendous strength of this horse. A truly epic thoroughbred who should be ranked higher than he is.

  • @liszt1186 Agree with you Best ever to race ...that is EASY GOER !

  • Same thing I said, just different words from Crist,"If not for the 2 typically atrocious rides that got him beat a nose and desperation neck in 2 races, Easy Goer would be mentioned in the same reverential breath as Man O'War,Secretariat and Citation, and his campaign acclaimed the greatest in racing history." Same thing, just different words than what I said earlier.

  • Easy Goer-The Fastest 3YO Mile Since the Inception of the Breed in 1:32 2/5,The 2nd Fastest Test of the Champion Belmont Ever Run Behind Only Secretariat,Among the Fastest Runnings of the Greatest,Historic Races, and 1 of the Greatest,Historic,Grueling 3YO Campaigns Ever, the Only Horse Ever to Reel off That Historic Quintuple of the Belmont-G1,Travers-G1,Whitney-G1,Woodward-G1 & Jockey Club Gold Cup-G1!

  • I apologize for my rash comment about Easy Goer. He was indeed a supreme fighter on the track and had one of the best speed/stamina combos of all time.

  • Easy Goer was always undoubtedly a top ten all time thorobred in talent, ability, constitution, heart, speed, stamina, with the clear evidence of that coming from his many, many top ten all time performances in his career at every distance,6.5F,7F,8F,9F,10F,12F, but the two typically atrocious rides that got him beat a nose and desperation neck in 2 races put him down into the thirties where ss always belonged.

  • Easy Goer ran that record mile in 1:32, and beat Secretariat's record by five lengths. Then ran the second fastest Belmont ever when no horse is gonna come close to Secretariat's Belmont record. As for the Travers,Easy Goer ran the third fastest Travers of all time under a hand ride, ran the second fastest Whitney of all time coming home in 11, and also ran among the top 5 Champagnes of all time, ran 6.5f as a two yr old right on tr.record time, ran the Suburban right on tr.record time w/big weight

  • Easy Goer, one of the rare Hall of Fame champions who combined blistering record speed(1:32.2,1:15)at a mile and at shorter distances, with a thoroughly superb and supreme stamina to run the second fastest Belmont of all time, and run many of the most historic races won by many Hall of Fame horses on or near track records(Travers,Whitney,Champagne,Suburban,Belmont,Gotham, etc). Remember those kid gloves and baby hands

  • Impressive. Nearly as fast as Secretariat.

  • @Chris82bc Best Horse ever to Race in my Books !

  • Easy Goer had so many of these ENORMOUS and overwhelming all timer performances in his lifetime, and had them at every distance, 6.5 panels, 7 furlongs, 8 furlongs, 9 furlongs, 10 furlongs and 12 furlongs. Enormous and overwhelming all time great Hall of Fame champion.

  • Easy Goer's record three yr. old mile of all time in 1:32.2, destroying Secretariat's mark by a full second, a tick off Dr. Fager's world record, and montser, complete domination, second fastest Belmont Stakes off all time, arethe two greatest performances since Spectacular Bid in 1980, and his Whitney and Travers aren't far off those two.

  • A phenom, a truly phenomenal horse was Easy Goer. He indeed did uncork so many of these truly phenomenal performances in his lifetime.

  • Easy Goer was no doubt at all a Top five or ten horse in talent abd ability, but the two extremely bad rides that got him beat a nose and neck, put him down where SS always belonged in the thirties.

  • Easy Goer- the Fastest 3YO Mile Since the Genesis of the Breed, the 2nd Fastest Test of the Champion Belmont Stakes ever run behind only Secretariat! Then on to that Historic and Unprecedented Campaign.
