i don't understand why valve took splitscreen out of the pc version of both l4d1 and 2 and make us go to these complicated steps to access it. Alot of us have large monitors or multiple monitors so splitsceen is not an issue all you need is a spare controller. Theres nothing like playing with a friend in the same room.  Alot of games had splitscreen in the console version but it was removed for pc version gears of war,resident evil 5, and modernwarefare 2 its pretty lame.

@vawriss3 it worked for me with one keyboard and mouse and one xbox controller.. when the map is loading try unplugging the controller and then put it in agian then i sometimes comes as a player 2.

can be done as gamepad + mouse and gamepad + gamepad, as long as they are recognized by your os. dont feel bad if you dont have 360 controllers.

well recently it seems they removed that command. the ss_enable at the time I made this video it was in. And as far as you're problem goes, I would say repeat the whole process, slowly. Double check everything. I just bought this game for my little brother, and I easily got it to work on his computer. With the exception of ss_enable being lost. It works without it anyway.

hmm, well double check, and if you're still positive. You could just split screen the game a different way. Such as, at the main screen type in the console, exec 360controller.cfg then type in ss_map (a list of maps should pop down and you can pick) press enter and it will immediately load you to that level, however you're not splitscreened just yet. When the level loads type in connect_splitscreen localhost 2, and then the level will reload but this time it will be split.

Okay, I double checked everything and it still doesn't work; but at least, from piecing info from the web (mostly from the Gamespot forums, of all places), I got it working in the exact same way you wrote last, and yes, you have to load the level and then split the screen. Now I have to figure out how to access realism mode and survival, if it's possible.

seems like you don have the "splitmode.txt" in ..left4dead2\cfg\ but you just can type "connect_splitscreen localhost 2" after load the map but you need to configure the gamepad.

Hey I got it working perfectly, im playing 1st player with keyboard and 2nd with joystick, but there's a problem, there is no aim assist for the 2nd player and its really hard without it, how can I activate it?

not sure, every time I type in ss_enable 1 it works. and if it says, can't execute file. double check make sure you placed it in the right spot and named it exactly what your trying to execute

sorry it took me awhile to get back to ya, I just realized ss_enable 1 was taken out of the game. (probably through an update. i didnt notice cause I didn't log on in awhile) you could delete ss_enable 1 from my file, and see if it works? Its unnecessary and I probably shouldn't of had it in there any way.

yes, ss_splitmode 1 will make it horizontal. just change the 2 to a 1 in the code and it'll work fine.

if you copied everything, splitmode.txt should work. I think you probably just missed copying something, you could try this... after you exec splitmode.txt and if its still not split, type in the following... ss_enable 1, ss_splitmode 2, connect_splitscreen localhost 2 see if that does something.

To do that you have to install 2 programs: PPJoy and JoyID

Make a virtual PPJoy joystick and set it's ID to 1 with JoyID and make sure real joystick ID is 2.
