@TheGenuineChristian You do know that "In Soviet Russia..." is a meme, right? I'm not making a statement about Soviet Russia nor its people. I advise you to follow your religion and leave the judging to your invisible man in the sky.
Sigh, one thing the music industry needs to understand, if you want us to buy physical copies of music instead of getting it for free: give us somthing extra worth having on the disc. (same with purchase websites, I think that if they are going to make us pay don't give us shitty compressed mp3 files, give us full flac files.)
The Comic Sans text at the beginning and end completely ruins this for me, I'm trying to write a dissertation on music piracy but now I just feel sad.
Actually i always wondered why you could high speed dub a tape. But you couldn't
hi speed dub a cd onto a tape. Until cd writers came along then you could copy music much faster. I've copied songs from the radio when stations have played the whole album to promote it. But they don't do that often.
But radio stations repeat the top 40 so often why copy it anyway. Tape copies weren't that good anyway.
Never buying music until the price comes down to around £0.01 per track. Billions of people will buy and still make big money for the fat cats execs. Thats the real market value of downloadable music. The only price worth paying above zero.
I hope this is a parody, but either way I don't get the argument. Long before the means to record it, there has been music. Musicians made their money from performing, not from selling past performances. What they mean is the current business model will be killed...well what do I care the business model? It won't stop people from creating. Just look at all the unsigned people on youtube and facebook selling their own stuff. They might not make $100 million, but who said they should?
Those "stupid bastards" that work at the music companies are the only ones that invest in new music. On a weekly basis I am meeting with young bands that are pretty cool, but don't make a penny and need some bucks to make a record. No record means no shows (that's where the dumb asses think the money is), no merchandising sales and no reviews/interviews. The modern journalist thinks that the music business people are out dated, in the meantime they are not writing about artists without a CD...
@MrGrm92 Except it's not, since nearly every record company and movie company posted record profits for the last quarter, during a recession. If a worldwide recession can't effect their profits, what effect do you think piracy has?
@MrGrm92 I would gladly share my connection with others as long as I have the highest priority. I think it's a great idea to share connections so if anyone's connection doesn't work s/he can use some one else's.
The campaign's orchestrated by TalkTalk. I dunno how good they are as a provider, but they're seemingly the only company refusing to give the government whatever information is asked for about their customers. It serves TalkTalk well of course, filesharers will flock to (and start paying) them, so their motive is perhaps not so noble. But civil rights are good.
Home taping did not really kill music in the 80's! - more often than not when I heard a song I liked back in the 80's on my fuzzy cassette deck, I would have dashed off to my Woolworths to buy myself a copy!
Capitalism is killing music. Paying for good music like Black Sabbath is like paying for love. Its priceless. I'd much rather care if my music made a good impact to some persons life and if he enjoys it from the heart. That to me is worth more than 9.99 $.
@Pwnagemerchant It's quite simple: they don't really understand why they've made the money that they did. Since they don't understand, they can't adapt to change and they obviously don't want to lose their money so they want everything to stay the same.
When you get down to it, they lucked into fortune and now they're scared shitless that it could all just go away.
@Virus278 Based on what you just wrote, I can only guess that you either have some form of autism or that you're in some way developmentally disabled. If you haven't been diagnosed yet, you should really talk to your pediatrician. Also, you should try watching the video again with an adult or somebody you trust, maybe they can help explain it to you. Anyway, I'm sure it's difficult, perhaps scary at times, since not being able to pick up on social signals and cues. Good luck!
Rick Astley is such a perfect example; he was virtually unknow until someone "illegally" posted a video of him on the net and the Rickroll was born. Now he does concerts again.
anyone remember the days when video recorders came out the movie industry hated them said people will just tape movies ban them and look now I just hope the other isp do what talk talk did and tell the goverment they will not do what this law says if all the isps do this think of the message it would send
It's amazing how many people commenting here don't realize that the current issues of "file copying" aren't just about getting music for free. If you buy an MP3 on, say, iTunes you still don't have freedom to use it anywhere you like. You are restricted by the DRM as to how many and which machines you are allowed to listen to that music on. And that doesn't even get into the freedom to share music with a friend, where I could loan a CD to someone but can't loan an mp3 with DRM.
Because not buying from people DOES put them out of business.
It's perfectly reasonable not to buy someone's stuff if you don't like them much and don't want them to stick around and make more stuff. There are plenty of musicians I wish would shut up, go away, get a day job, and never sing again.
OTOH if you like someone, you ought to support them, so they can keep going.
problem is, unless they're an indie artist under they're own or a friend's label, the majority of the (absurd) profits is going to the record label, not the artist you support
@skopp888 probably true, although I *think* in such cases the record label paid the band money up front and the sales largely go to pay that back? dunno. i'm an indie game developer, not a musician, so my knowledge of how publishing works is from a slightly different industry. Anyway, I don't expect anybody to buy everything! Just want to encourage people to buy stuff from people they like, since that's necessary for me to eat too. :)
@RadialSkid It's not exactly easy for a new artist to get a concert set up on their own. And as I said, the label takes profits from sales BECAUSE they paid an ADVANCE to the artist. As far as I know. That is, at least, how it works in games. I don't know for sure about music. Feel free to correct.
Certainly, it's frustrating to hear people say they don't need to buy games because they buy tshirts with game characters on them, something that small game makers can't possibly distribute.
Guys like Corey Smith, Jonathan Coulton, and Dan Bull have had plenty of success on their own. Corey Smith has literally made millions of dollars self-releasing and touring.
The labels pay an advance, usually about $200k or so. Then they pay the artist about 5 to 8 cents per album for the rest of the contract. That does a a lot more than make up for the $200,000 on the successful acts.
are there atcually anyone out there who miss these artist they making fun of?Geroge michal has been on and off the gay band wagon for so many times that noone cares.
Madonna lost her talent when she stoped being shocking(can't someone tell her pleasee that she's not sexy any more, she looks like F**u p version of granny porn)adam ant seem to recall he lost he's marbels in the 90s as band ...never liked them.
You had to buy the songs to tape them back then, so they did pay the artist.
The point to keep in mind is that when something as easy as file sharing on the internet, or taping cassettes at home becomes an option, you can't put the genie back in the bottle. The music industry is trying to limit technology so they don't have to adapt to it just like they always have. There are already ways around being caught by the Digital Economy Bill's standards. People will just start using them.
@HealerG Not necessarily. We mostly taped off the radio back in the day. Eventually though we'd buy the album, if it was worth it, and the shirts and go to concerts.
But yeah, same as now, more or less.
We shouldn't have to adapt to a system that seeks to limit our worlds and lives for the sake of obscenely large profits for corporations.
But I'm fine with artists receiving a living wage for their work.
In the future a lot of artists will probably make more money from live music events anyway, seeing a band at a live event is tons better than shitty media mp3/CD...etc, no matter how good your home music system is/costs.Buying bootleg CDs is a crock of worthless shit.
@atombat- theres the advantage of listenting to it at home at you convenience. as many times as you like. its not shitty, if you have a decent system it dosent compare to the live shows sound quality wise, agreed, but it has other value additions. and you should pay the artist for those, cant say you want it free cz u prefer live better! its the artists decision
And that is the kind of bands that we dont need and I wouldnt pay for. But they are trying to force us to pay for shitty music. I rather download the songs for free and if I think it is worth it I would gladly pay for CD's, shirts, concerts and all kinds of needless things they want me to purchase...
I would gladly pay but not *before* knowing what kind of quality that particular album has.
what they do with thair money is not for you to decide, thyve earned it with their hardwork/talent/luck. if u oppose it dont buy it what gives you the right to demand it free?
I am an Economics Student. Those stupid music executives need to adapt to the market and CHANGE. A rule of economics and nature is "Evole or Die"
They are just greedy assholes who want to keep the current system of £10 - 15 per cd and don't want to change to a model that may bring in less profit. I hope they all go bankcrupt. I can live without new music untill new companies open up with business models to suit the current market.
arnt they changing? you can buy it online now, theres no resestricion on that. no one is saying you have to buy CDs only. all they say is you cant get it free.
@StaticID its just not there greed I think a big part is that we the people who download are the ones buying there music and films and tv show a massive part in there drop in profits for me is the crap they put out but also the fact they are labeling us all as criminals
That came to mind but the dude has face paint and shit in his hair. I guess it might just be a bad Michael Jackson costume. It didn't come across as him. The other two characters came across very well.
if you dont remember it check out some of your parents vinyl from the eighties. on the back, on the bottom might be a skull and cross bones on top of an audio cassette with the slogan underneath
Listen to the words right there. 2.17 home taping - radio star - album charts or gramophomes - publisher - orchestra. It's all about their own context, the truth seems right in their own context but not objectively on the accused people. It's just tyrannical, who gets to decide, and the decisions make sense only in their own minds.
Very nice. This video was linked to me by one of my favorite musicians! The modern music industry is killing music, it's up to artists and audiophiles to keep it alive.
This is what sober people do for fun.

@atombat- theres the advantage of listenting to it at home at you convenience. as many times as you like. its not shitty, if you have a decent system it dosent compare to the live shows sound quality wise, agreed, but it has other value additions. and you should pay the artist for those, cant say you want it free cz u prefer live better! its the artists decision

not all bands can play live. not all bands are even bands, and have literally no way to make money but album sales.
tylerbrainerd 1 year ago
That's the reason I support copying music!
dorinvladstefan 1 year ago
@tylerbrainerd

StaticID 1 year ago 89
arnt they changing? you can buy it online now, theres no resestricion on that. no one is saying you have to buy CDs only. all they say is you cant get it free.
butterflybeingborn 1 year ago 2
@StaticID Well said! They need to change or they will go the way of the dinosaurs.
pathduck 1 year ago
@StaticID Isn't Vevo a way that music companies are adapting to the market?
Virus278 1 year ago
@StaticID its just not there greed I think a big part is that we the people who download are the ones buying there music and films and tv show a massive part in there drop in profits for me is the crap they put out but also the fact they are labeling us all as criminals

@StaticID Amen dude, and so can I....most good music died with Kurt Cobain anyways

@StaticID Sorry, but the real truth is "Don't Evolve, Just Be Big Enough to Buy Off The Government". Works for a lot of businesses!

So absolutely true. As we can all see nowadays, home taping REALLY did kill music, just like the Content Mafia predicted in the 80's, right? :)
As far as the song and video is concerned: VERY well done! Like it!

IF we don't stop "home taping". . .will the labels stop pushing their pre-fab crap "artists" ???
If so, where can I buy a CRATE of tape ?? (evil grin)

Meh, Don't know why it won't let me comment. The third person is Adam Ant.

The execs tell us that downloading is killing music.
Apple tells us that they have sold 10 Billion songs through iTunes.
Am I the only one who sees a lie in tthere somewhere?

That came to mind but the dude has face paint and shit in his hair. I guess it might just be a bad Michael Jackson costume. It didn't come across as him. The other two characters came across very well.

if you dont remember it check out some of your parents vinyl from the eighties. on the back, on the bottom might be a skull and cross bones on top of an audio cassette with the slogan underneath
dazzammm 1 year ago 2
Listen to the words right there. 2.17 home taping - radio star - album charts or gramophomes - publisher - orchestra. It's all about their own context, the truth seems right in their own context but not objectively on the accused people. It's just tyrannical, who gets to decide, and the decisions make sense only in their own minds.

If you're not old enough to remember, "Home taping is killing music" was record-industry propaganda in the 1970's. Dan Bull didn't make it up.

Very nice. This video was linked to me by one of my favorite musicians! The modern music industry is killing music, it's up to artists and audiophiles to keep it alive.
