Just curious you guys. Do you guys maintain your shinais?
Its actually necessary to maybe sand down the sides of the bamboo slats and apply some oil. Otherwise the wood becomes dry and can splinter easily. The splinters might actually hurt somebody.
I do Kendo so taking care of the shinai is important! Especially since a faulty shinai is a potential safety hazard!
Alright, maybe on the third try this'll go through. This video's pretty cool. I'm part of a freestyle shinai group as well, called In Nature With Shinai, you can find our videos by searching youtube for that title. Right now we just finished filming our 28th chapter. It looks like you guys are having a lot of fun. Keep it up.
I would love to get into re-enacting and shinais are the way to go for begginners anyways I like full on battles like you guys are doing but a bit more violent.. so I need a reinforced fencing mask lacross gloves and a neck guard lol but anyways if me and my buddy do get into it we will send you some vids and probably challenge you guys.. muahhaha.. and I dont mind 2 vs 15 but we will fight to kill you in a sense.
owh sorry SPQR2755 i was jus joking keep it up your sport mate...really wan to join your legacy but in my country the possibilities of police to join in is highly possible...and they seriously beat you up with real stick mate haha anyway sorry again never meant to disgraced your sword bashing sport :)sorrry again
wtf??? its masacre....sword bashing tag team...hahaha this is how ppl who cant afford world of warcraft having fun exactly...hahahaha u all shud advertise this....maybe W.O.W might bankrupt bcos of this new game :)
This is called ex-er-ci-se. You know, when you get off computer and mo-ve. Its also known as real life fun. You know... real life... stuff you gave up to play WoW? It also takes skill and practice not just clicking the mouse. Yeah, you don't get why anyone would leave computer, can't explain it, sorry. But if you ever want to join us, we are outside, in the sun (outside - big room with blue ceiling, the sun - dreaded day-star that burns eyes)
i wouldnt say this has something to do with kendo, or other sword arts. its more this medieval roleplay thing. if you do kendo, you wouldt grap your sword w/ just one hand so you loose control of it. sorry, just wanted to differenciate. but keep it up, looks like lot of fun:-)
No, what we do is not traditional Kendo. I've fought with Kendo people and it was frankly apples and oranges. We most of us just use the shinais as they are cheap and reasonably safe. We do pick up some things from Kendo but also from a lot of other sources such as fencing and broadsword fighting. It's also not a LARP. We don't have garb or classes or magic. It's a team combat sport where the team aspect is as important as the individual fighting. We refer to it as Free Style Weapondry.
I've been in a 2 small shinai groups so far, but they considered me too aggressive and have both more or less exiled me. I guess the problem is that I don't play games while most groups similar to those in this video do play games.
If no one is doing what you want to do the best thing is to start your own group that does. Then you get to do what you want and other groups get to do what they want. Win / win.
Wow, I'm from poland and I also practice Kendo. Im te sword fun i also practice European Knights style. Sometimes I try something like this with my friends but here is more people. I want to try fight with with more than 12 people. GREAT 5 stars!!
at least you aren't sitting on the couch playing videogames and getting fat...I thought the NERF sword was very funny....but you people should wear eye protection--who wants to go blind doing THAT!
We do actually encourage eye protection and today a lot of people wear goggles. Them problem was that goggles fogged or obscured vision in a way that was at least as hazardous as not having the goggles. After some trial and error we finally came up with some goggles that work pretty well. Our underage people have to wear them.
when is the most resent battle day going to be posted. I'm getting tired of watching this one over and over again

I keep asking the same question. We've got lots of people with cameras but nobody seems to want to give me more material!

Hockey helmets. Lacrosse helmets. Ten you can allow head shots. It changes the game completely, tons of fun.
OMFGWTFBBQLEET 4 years ago
We have a number of helmets that we use sometimes but its mostly a non-helmet type of event.
