This song relates to me in so many ways. I never really do this but yeah. I get pressured at school and home, because I'm the smart child. I then got told that my ex boyfriend killed a guy, but then found out he lied about it for 3 months. So yeah, that's my story

I love this song but even so, Superman himself probably never thinks that, and even if he did, it's not terribly valid seeing as he had a perfectly happy childhood completely ignorant to the tragedy of Krypton, and even now is adored by pretty much everyone. This song relates to me in so many ways. I never really do this but yeah. I get pressured at school and home, because I'm the smart child. They expect me to get high grades and if I don't get a reasonable grade I get called stupid at home and told that I'll never succed. On top of that, I have other problems them being that loads of people rely on me to be there for them. I then got told that my ex boyfriend killed a guy, but then found out he lied about it for 3 months. So yeah, that's my story

I love this song but even so, Superman himself probably never thinks that, and even if he did, it's not terribly valid seeing as he had a perfectly happy childhood completely ignorant to the tragedy of Krypton, and even now is adored by pretty much everyone. He may "only be a man in a red sheet," but he can still basically crush planets with his fists, so he can wear whatever the fuck he wants and it's not ridiculous, and he can accomplish what would take others so much work.

So my family is really high up in the social class in my city and we are considered "elite" but I really don't care about any of that. Those people can't show any weakness or else those looking to them for guidance will have no one. So those people don't cry, don't falter, have to be strong for those that need them to be. He uses Superman as a metaphor. Superman is a role model to Metropolis. And if he were to be seen showing weakness, who would those little kids in Superman capes look up to?

@Altairsstairs And, as others pointed out, some people want to feel hurt, emotionally, because they feel they are emotionally closed off and inert, as Superman physically can't feel pain. So in order to feel like a regular person, like they belong, like they have emotions, they seek out something that will stir their emotions and make them cry, force them to let it all out, like Superman in the song is searching for Kryptonite so he can feel pain, so he can feel human, like a person, for once.

He feels that if he got hurt or defeated or broken one time, people would no longer feel like they need to rely on him and stop. But on the same time, if he does that, it would be incredibly selfish so he still has to force himself into being an idol. And this is about him struggling between lessening his stature for less pressure or keeping it for others' sake.
