It is erroneous to focus single-mindedly on the effects of an action or policy rather than to analyze the justness of the processes that bring it about. In the Vick case, too many people argued that any form of animal killing is morally reprehensible.
But bringing up the sports of hunting and fishing as the moral equivalents of dogfighting/killing in order to cry "double standard" is intellectually lazy. It also falls outside the scope of the Michael Vick situation. Just putting that out there.

Depending on the species of fish, anywhere between 29 and 60% of fish that are releaed do not live. The two main factors are where/how they are hooked, and this is interesting---stress from the trauma of being caught.

I would never condone his actions but after watching his interview on 60 min I can see why he may have done what he did. He grew up in surroundings where dog fighting was normal or at least not uncommon. I grew up in an area where killing deer and almost any other animal is considered a normal sport. Some people would consider that barbaric and cruel. I'm not saying Vick wasn't wrong, he definitely was but I can see how he maybe didn't see it that way at the time.
