@alexlancer11 Piper is a piece of crap? I admit a lot of it is not particularly representative of their live sound at the time(which I love), but surely you jest.
@heklngjekl Pete Townshend and many UFO regulars agree with me. Norman Smith sucked and he did not even like Pink Floyd he admits. I think Astronomy Domine , Stethoscope , Power Toc H and Flaming came out pretty well , but over all Piper is very disappointing. UFO folks said it had nothing to do with there live sound. That is why many can not tell this is the Floyd playing. Read Crazy Diamond and Pete says it him self about Piper. Piper could have been so much more. Fuck you Norm
I should say I own this film and Flame made sure I got it fast. It is by far best to see it on your TV. Really interesting and of course there is the Pink Floyd. Thanks Flame

To those of you just tuning in--I (Flame Schon-formerly Diane Rochlin the surviving filmmaker of Dope the 16mm movie from which this excerpt-it's not "footage" but an edited excerpt- has been taken -with permission) have posted answers to all, absolutely all your questions on the site Y on a long thread about the movie Dope shot in London in '67 by myself and Sheldon Rochlin...and the movie is available. The only questions not answered deal with lost memory.
"Just in from a very reliable source that is in regular contact with the band. I asked him to point the YouTube clip out to Nick and I guess he received a copy of the entire film. He is aware of the whole PF vs SM debate. Here's what he just wrote to me...
Nick viewed the Dope movie a couple of days ago and said that he thinks it is PF audio on the soundtrack.
Of course it is Pink Floyd no one else plays like that including the great Soft Machine. It is probably not at UFO and Schon does not think so either as she was very kind to relay to me this info.

mlucifersam, once again, thank you so much for posting this amazing video!!! It is always so wonderful to see new footage of the old Pink Floyd Sound and Syd Barrett playing, I would kill for a full performance though, where do you get all of this amazing footage???
I gave mlucifersam permission to post this excerpt (it is not footage, but an excerpt from the feature documentary Dope shot in London early '67 by myself -then Diane Rochlin and now Flame Schon, and Sheldon Rochlin).
Is there any more of this footage or recording? Us Barrett fans are left with extremely few recordings and especially color footage of Syd's Floyd days.
@mlucifersam So this sam fellow seems to be the "dope" that started this nonsense ? LOL Some idiot that only listens to Piper. Piper is a piece of crap. All the UFO club people hated it for the most part. If you where a true Syd fan you would know.
New Shortly footage, OMG, Thank's mlucifersam you have the complete Film?, i read that exist 2 minutes in the movie from Pink Floyd Playing at UFO club, and for the film, the director recording 30 mins...
They sound strange, i never heard Richard Wright playing like this, is similar to The Soft Machine kind of things, and the drums is the style of robert wyatt, maybe is soft machine playing Hope for Happiness with images of the Floyd's...

There's absolutely no way that's Rick on organ - and there's absolutely NO way that's Nick on drums.
I agree with others here - the visuals are the Floyd, but the sounds are someone else, very possibly Soft Machine.

Clearly you do not know anything about the early Pink Floyd sound.
alexlancer11 2 years ago
that is not Richard on organ! willing to stake my rep on that. as others suggest, might be soft machine, a bit closer to Ratledge's style back then.
thanks for posting of course...

it could be that the soundtrack is NOT Pink Floyd but could be the Soft Machine. I don't know, not being familiar with their music.

Ian O'Sullivan, musician and writer of the article on Dope in Shindig Magazine, Jan '09, has said that it's Pink Floyd.
My memory of 42+ years ago could be unreliable.
DVDs of Dope are available from me. Flame Schon the surviving filmmaker
