Great music sang by a wonderful tenor!!!, thanks for sharing!!! Mr. Alagna is one of the best of the best in actual lyric world. He has the warm and vocal extension to aboard almost any repertoire, but must say I like him very much in the romantic one. Bravo Alagna!!!!
Pity the orchestra is so overwhelming, but Alagna is wonderful. Get his very first CD and listen to this on it, it is sublime. His voice here is beautiful but the conductor has no pity on him and totally drowns him with his orchestra!! There are such beautiful nuances of light and shadow that Gounod wrote into this piece, with the tenor using piano singing, but it is lost with this poor conductor. Bravo Alagna!
colora40 Gounod has beautifull music and Alagna feels it.Every time he sang Gounod it vas so beautifull.I loved his voice when he was younge ,but I still love his voice and in my ears he has most beautifull voice.Ilove him
Ah!
This is such a great aria by Gounod...it's a pity that other great tenors hadn't recorded it...like Vickers, McCracken, Corelli, Carerras and Gedda. The rest of the opera is uneven, but this is a gem. The last 20 seconds truly test the skills of a lyric tenor, that ascending phrase to the B-flat kinda lets us know that the aria honestly requires a true lyric-spinto with great breath supply to pull it off like a conqueror. Alagna does a pretty good job here. Thanks for posting this rarity!
This is NOT GOOD SINGING, ITS GREAT SINGING. I'm kind of tired of the La Scala comments since they boo at will and the Celeste Aida wasn't great but I've heard a lot worse.
I have never been an Alagna fan, never found his singing to be musical...or at least in the Italian rep...but this...oh wow...Bobby is Buh-Bad! Beautiful phrase shaping, and a very intimate knowledge of the language, of course. I kinda wish that he'd have given us more B-flat at the end, but hey-- that's nothing to complain about. This is good singing.
agreed, i just wish he would stay with this kind of rep, instead of stuff that is not right for his voice. they never would have booed him at la scala for this performance.

I find the last note a bit tense and peremptory, but in general quite lovely singing. Dig the '90's hair!

Bravissimo!
And its nice he's a total babe, as well. He must be the first genuinely handsome high-quality tenor since Corelli.

Yes... this is one of my favorite French arias sung by Alagna. Indeed, French repertoire is truly his hallmark and should therefore stick to it.
