A similar kind of hoax happened in my home town when a new commercial TV network started broadcasting there for the first time.
It needed to get noticed.
To get noticed, its first main local story was that a house in our rural area was haunted. They claimed that it was claimed that strange things happen at this house.
It was later well apparent that it was a hoax. But, they got customers
The moral of my story?
Never rely on a commercial news network to give you the truth about anything.
