When I first heard the song, and read the lyrics my thoughts were that this song is about a woman who basically is on this self-destructive path. She wants to embrace all the unsentimental things that men are seen as having when it comes to sex. Damien Rice is flipping the script on the idea of it being "A Man's World" and doing it through this woman's POV.

You can tell from later songs he sang. When he goes on interviews he opens up and tells them that "I was a complete a--hole on many occasions... I love her so much. And I love her so much that I love that she hasn't spoken to me -- because even in that I have learned so much over the last two years."
