You keep the water cool with a chiller. A water chiller runs the water through and cools it. I have been trying to find one for my tank of tiger trout fingerlings but no luck. So I keep my window open at night with the 15 degree air and dump ice in their tank throughout the day. That keeps the tank around 55 degrees. My trout were bought from a fishery so I'm allowed to have them. But I do believe it is illegal to keep them if they were caught from the wild. You know a good pet store where I ca

Technically it is illegal to transport live fish without a license but nobody will care about a single fish kept as a pet. Regulations very in every state and sometimes in each fishery so it may not even be illegal to keep the trout no matter what the size. Lastly, it is clearly a Rainbow Trout.

@momics3 Most times wild trout in mountain streams dont grow very large and have a stunted growth due to lack of adequate forage except very small insects and most never reach the 7" legal minimum in most places to keep so you would have killed a trout . Not to add it wouldnt have been a legal trout either like if it was a stockie .
