Many of these bills have pork and ear marks. People who shouldn't have qualified for credit card loans got loans. Biden is the main credit card company front man in Delaware. In many cases 30% plus interest rates kicked in, causing people to be over their heads, who shouldn't have been able to get credit in the first place. Biden's protection and support of these companies has enabled them to get rich while these poor people can't get help by way of credit card debt foreclosure reorganization. Social Security has been robbed countless number of times. It would be fine if the Feds didn't steal from it numerous occassions. A very modest tax increase would be able to deal with that problem. Additionally, Social Security is an insurance program which also pays out about 25% of its benefits to beneficiaries who are not retirees. It is not merely a retirement program.
Another point is that I can find very long stretches of market performance that have not been particularly great. 1929-1954 was flat. 1966-2008 has only been 6% a year, approximately. Also, you are aware private accounts would have undoubtedly had a
bond component to them which no doubt, along with virtually all other similar retirement programs, would have included a large cross section of the AAA rated mortgage backed securities that have been plunging in the current crisis which were viewed as being safe 6% a year returns. That would have happened and we would currently have a mess.
I'm not talking about private bonds. US Treasuries. That's a better return than the NEGATIVE return you earn with SS.

It means that fewer tax payers are burdened even more to pay for social security of the elderly people. One day, a future Administration will have to admit that there is no money to pay to the retired people. I'm an Obama supporter but McCain's comments were justified. He didn't say SS was a disgrace. He said that a system of using current payments in to match current payments out (meaning money that earns no investment income) is bound to break and he is right. All it takes is more payees than payors and the system breaks. Simple math there. Anyone who doesn't see the folly in this has no financial sense. You have to take payments in, grow the money, and then use that money for pay outs.

SS will not start losing money until 2044 or so, and only if no change is made. It will remain solvent for almost ever if the tax cap is eliminated so that people earning more than $250,000 will pay into the system.

People who shouldn't have qualified for credit card loans got loans. Biden is the main credit card company front man in Delaware. In many cases 30% plus interest rates kicked in, causing people to be over their heads, who shouldn't have been able to get credit in the first place. Biden's protection and support of these companies has enabled them to get rich while these poor people can't get help by way of credit card debt foreclosure reorganization. This was the tipping point.

Did you know that because of Biden and his Delaware credit card companies people can't go bankrupt on credit card debt, they have to let their homes go into foreclosure. You can go backrupt if you can't pay your house payment, but credit card debt is immune to bankruptcy due to Obama's credit card company lobbiests who control him? That may have been before the surge, but it was a targeted surge that demonstrated the potential effectiveness that a surge could bring, into the rest of Iraq. A very modest tax increase would be able to deal with that problem. Additionally, Social Security is an insurance program which also pays out about 25% of its benefits to beneficiaries who are not retirees. It is not merely a retirement program.
Another point is that I can find very long stretches of market performance that have not been particularly great. 1929-1954 was flat. 1966-2008 has only been 6% a year, approximately. Also, you are aware private accounts would have undoubtedly had a

You guys are all out in left field over this, the Democrats took control of the social security funds and turned them into public use funds instead of the vested funds that were originally setup. What needs to be fixed is the way the funds have been used since the Carter administration and pay back the stolen monies that were originally set aside to continue these payments. Interesting video, but I need to add: the number of Americans working is declining and the number of Americans getting old and retired is rapidly rising. It means that fewer tax payers are burdened even more to pay for social security of the elderly people. One day, a future Administration will have to admit that there is no money to pay to the retired people. In order to fix that, we need more people in the work force and make people understand that they have to manage their private economies.

I'm an Obama supporter but McCain's comments were justified. He didn't say SS was a disgrace. He said that a system of using current payments in to match current payments out (meaning money that earns no investment income) is bound to break and he is right. All it takes is more payees than payors and the system breaks. Simple math there. Anyone who doesn't see the folly in this has no financial sense. You have to take payments in, grow the money, and then use that money for pay outs.

The plain truth is that 100% of these people will be dead within 50 years. MOST of them will be dead within 30 years, ending the imbalance between those funding and those receiving benefits.

SS will not start losing money until 2044 or so, and only if no change is made. It will remain solvent for almost ever if the tax cap is eliminated so that people earning more than $250,000 will pay into the system.

I am pushing 61. If I had been allowed to invest the money that I and my employers have paid in, ostensibly for Social Security, I would be set for life. As it is, I cannot count on it being worth much at all. Virtual default, perhaps through means-testing or hyper-inflation, is inevitable. Don't take my word for it. Social Security was DESIGNED for younger folks to pay now for retirees now, because the money became available almost immediately--there was nothing in the "fund" in 1937.Printing money was not if fashion-yet.

Excellent points. Thanks. I too thought at first that McCain had simply misspoke, but then I realized that such an attack against the social security as it has operated for its entire 80 year history could only be deliberate. It is outrageous and shows his deep hatred for all American workers both young and old.

so obama supporters, how do you like that obama gave bush and cheney what they wanted (FISA). are you still behind this traitor to the american people and the constitution? WHY?!!! isnt is time to turn in libertarian and stand only for the constitution of the united states of america which is designed to protect you? FISA was designed to cover up a crime and will work against you on the long run. obama knows that but he doesnt give a fukk!!! wake up america!!!
