hp laptops are not even that good... they tend to mess up in a short amount of time... is better to buy an Asus or Sony Vaio..... you would have to pay a little bit more of course for the laptops but you get wht you pay for because is worth it.

please get the 15 inch 2012 updated version. it has an slot loading optical disk drive now that can play blu rays, proximity sensor backlit keyboard, beats audio 6 speaker and subwoofer, quad core, 1080p hd resolution, new touch pad, bluetooth, hd webcam, amd graphics card, 8 hour battery life, and is 1.28 inches thick!

I actually had some frustrated hours before I could install different OSs on it. Reason being the USB 3.0 ports, not supported by any OS's than opensuse. Weeks later I happened to see the eSATA/USB-port. (It's a USB 2.0 port.)

To everyone who thinks the floral design is a deal breaker or that it is girly, there is a Beats edition (as in Beats by Dr. Dre) that has the Beats logo and a black, soft-touch lid instead of the floral design, as well as apparently better sound for only a bit more than the original version of the laptop.

The 17 inch envy's there have better specs than the m14x, has a bigger screen, and has the same, lower, or just a little higher price... But the alienwares shure do look a lot cooler! :P

ugh. i wish they would come out with a decent docking station. usb 3.0 is great for docks, but power cord on one side of the computer, usb 3 on the other side.. be prepared to plug, unplug, plug, unplug, plug, unplug, plug, unplug, plug, unplug. Nothing but wires running everywhere.

This is a great laptop, don't get me wrong but I think its a little stupid that it came with an external drive. They should of replaced the vent on the right side with a slide in drive like the one on the mac books. I have the older Dv7 with windows 7 installed. it was a bronze/chrome special limited edition. came with 4GB of ram and 500GB hard drive. I would not buy an external drive just to watch blu ray movies. My laptop came standered with a blu ray drive. Overall the envy is a great laptop

@xXFL4WL3Ss - I have this laptop and yes it heats up. But I don't really mind it. The issue with the laptop is the fans. They come and go when the laptop heats up doing something. Its embarrassing in an office environment. Also on battery power the laptop may give you 1 hour of life. I'm happy with its performance and screen. But everything else sucks.
