I really was set to laugh mockingly at this whole thing and somehow I'm liking it. Yes, the premise might be creaky, but I the characters- no one seems to be a obnioxious put-on- the actors are all fine and the usual Screen Gems sparkle is there- the show itself doens't appear any worse than shows about talking horses or a martian living on earth! Plus great London on-site filming! Too bad it didn't get more of a chance...
@tomovox I strongly agree! While my memories of this show are extremely fuzzy (I was 8 1/2 at the time), looking back it has a "Victor/Victoria" & "Tootsie" kind of feel to it: it was too ridiculous a premise to be believed but you enjoy watching it anyway due to the infectious charm of the characters. Along with "Mr. Ed" & "My Favorite Martian," we had "It's About Time" "My Living Doll," and "My Mother, the Car" among others, so nothing was ruled out regarding silly TV premises back then!
@Elric33239 Eric- I love most of those crazy shows- Mr. Ed, My Favorite Martian. I know this show has taken a bad rap, but I was thinking recently about "Bosom Buddies" and unbelieveable that was! Still, I liked it and a lot of folks liked it- there are just shows where you say to yourself, yeah, it's nuts, but I can put away my belief system for 30 minutes at least! I just think this show could have been fun to watch, if you kept in mind that's all it was- FUN.
@tomovox That basically sums it up. I remember reading about MASH's Corporal Max Klinger. He was suppose to be a one-shot character but the show received a ton of letters demanding that he come back. The rest is history! Cross-gender dressing for comedy and drama sake goes back to Shakespeare and the Japanese Kabuki Theatre! That's probably why this show was produced in the UK: they're much less uptight than we were and still are!
@Elric33239 I didn't know that about the Max Klinger character. I'm glad it worked out the way it did, because he was absolutely pure comedic gold in the role. Yes, you're right- Ithink the UK is far more accepting and broadminded about things than we are here. Even when it comes to music, the UK has made stars out of a lot of singers that we in the U.S. ignored.
I tried to find if someone had this show on dvd, but alas, no!
@tomovox I was thinking of hunting down "grab bag TV" DVD sets that tend to have fragments of '60s TV shows on them. They usually sell them at dollar stores and Best Buy. That's where I found $1 "Dick Van Dyke 4-episode sets!"
These old 1960's shows are so much fun to watch, thanks for posting them.

Completely different from what I remember. He isn't believable for even half a second at this. NO ONE would take him for a top model! Even in jest!
