  • I don't why people always hold up Brazil as an example of ethanol done right, it's not, as always, the devils are in the details. First of all, they burned down rain forest to clear fields to grow the shit, and they are effectively strip-mining the soil and their soil is depleting. There is a very big difference between dirt and soil.

  • The US "found" (like our government didn't know it was there beforehand) more than $1 trillion-worth of Lithium deposits in Afghanistan. Sure that will come in handy for cars like these down the line. Oops, I forgot we went to Afghanistan to "combat terrorism." NOT to acquire their natural resources by force in order to boost our economic outlook in the coming decades as the world's oil reserves are gradually depleted. My mistake.

  • 6:30 - you idiots..... a battery powered car... what charges these batteries? comes from the power socket from burning coal and oils.... and to charge a battery you need to put in more energy than you get out.

further more, 180 lithium packs will do more damage a year than petrol will..........................................

  • I'm truly impressed by Americans. They have probably the HIGHEST levels of social capital in the fucking world. Call them naive or agressive... Americans love their nation, and individuals like those who search for solutions on their own out of passion and love for the nation are the LIFEBLOOD of America. Which other country can boast to have such independent individuals who try to do stuff for society without state-prompting? America will survive, as long as these people are around.

  • We'll be pulling our cars with animals.....if we're lucky...

  • As Americans continue their CO2 prodution,

.. they will be riding camels to work.

  • I literally gasped when they said that modified Prius got 100mpg.

  • peak oil=less consumption=less climate warming=less population

Mother nature will put everything in place!

  • man the yanks are good..

  • Three Pulitzer prizes? This guy demonstrates stunning ignorance about energy.

  • amazing

  • any body remember the 1970'S Jimmy Carter Solar Panel on the white house when are we going to fucking do this... reminds me of William Churchill you can always trust the Americans to do the right thing... when they have exhausted all other options! good interview!

  • So America applies 100% duties on Brazillian sugar ethanol but 0 tarrifs on crude oil. No wonder the US administration (under GW Bush is out of touch)

  • Global warming isnt crap, thats an outcome of all nuclear powers testing nuclear weapons within earths atmosphere in the 50s,60s,70s,80s. If you look into that a little bit you'll find some interesting facts. Gas gussling trucks, planes, trains, space shuttles, every little thing, all adds up.

  • You're all lost. Completely off the track. Scientists in Japan and the United States have recently developed a strain of bacterium called Botryococcus braunii that produce oil, gasoline, and diesel. It is NOT biodiesel. They produce actual crude, fossil oil. Not only that, but they are completely carbon neutral, because the bacteria consumes CO2 from the atmosphere to produce oil. There will be no need to change our way of living.

  • This is a true story. There is still a need or renewables due to the time it will take to get this process up to capacity. There are literally thousands of different projects going on right now. If we had leadership that would promote these programs instead of stacking the deck against them we'd be ahead of the game. Instead, we are loosing the game! Vote for the candidate who is focused on renewables!

  • that guy went hammer happy...

  • To be able to totally free ourselves from oil, we must replace the entire spectrum of material that is petroleum dependant.

You can use alternative fuel. They'll say you still need... These petroleum items: a) lubricants b) paint c)synthetic rubber d)silicon sealants e)plastics parts f) electronic chips g)epoxy & other adhesives. The list goes on & on. All of us need to list everything that is petroleum based AND REPLACE EVERYONE OF THEM. Only then will they stop drilling.

    Thank you.

  • Don't forget medicines! By the way, we've had synthetic oil since WWII (The Germans again)! It really works and it wouldn't be more expensive than "normal" oil if "normal" oil weren't subsidized by the US government. Then other forms of energy could make some headway and synthetics could be used for everything else! I think it's a great idea!

  • China's one-child policy was critized in their day, but the opposition has been more and more quite recently. A far-sighted policy.

  • When you Americans will learn that the issue is not gas, electricity, ethanol or any other kind of energy sources, but your level of consumption of that energy? Please, make the world a favor: Just think about it!

  • That's TRUE! Amory Lovins is ALL about teaching that fact! We're using out shower water to flush the toilet. We have a timer that turns the water heater on for one hour a day (and we haven't noticed a difference)! All of our light bulbs are compact florescent or LED. They give off great light! We're working on turning OFF the water heater for good with SOLAR Thermal AND we are driving an electric Chevy S-10. Solar PVs are next! Keep it up America!!

  • "As the utility provided by an energy source increases or decreases in comparison to the amount of utility expended to obtain it, so does the overall usage and utility provided by that energy source, over time."

Their is no control over the issue. What is happening is set in stone.

  • Great vid ! I want one electric car ! Gas down here is becoming too expensive !

  • hey have you seen the movie "Who Killed The Electric Car"?

  • @Lacktardo Electric cars need recharging that burns TONS of coal in usa and it's really bad !!

  • Brazil is destroying the rain forest to grow that sugar cane. Its a losing game. just grow a garden with hand tools. that is all you have to do. Its a fun past time

  • You got a point, but sugar cane does not consume as much land compare to forest being cleared for keeping cattles for beef.

  • Agreed, that is also 100% unsustainable. Beef consumption has to be limited to the lands ability to grow grass. Flogging the land is dangerous no matter what the product is.

  • Brazil is destroying the rain forest to grow that sugar cane. Its a losing game. just grow a garden with hand tools. that is all you have to do. Its a fun past time

  • amory lovins! :D

  • Addicted to war.

  • the answer is powering down, no more toilet seats from china, no more hour long drives to work....vactions all around the world

  • Ethanol can't replace the oil we are using, ever, that is just wishful thinking. We must work towards sustainability using energies such as solar, wind and water. This means lowering the amount of energy we use dramatically, and unfortunately the world's population of nearly 7 billion cannot be supported without oil. Make sure you can survive this die off. By reading this you're already ahead of 90% of people. Good luck. :)

  • how they prevent land from gettin poor from nutrients?

  • Good question. They use ammonium-based fertilizer they make using petroleum. Gas is more important than you think.

  • Friedman! :D

  • "After every major terrorist incident the excuse makers come out to tell us why imperialism, Zionism, colonialism or Iraq explains why the terrorists acted. These excuse makers are just one notch less despicable than the terrorists and also deserve to be exposed. Every quarter the State Department should identify the top 10 hate mongers, excuse makers and truth tellers in the world." - Thomas Friedman, the "good cop" of the New World Order
