  • You know how every band you like has that one song you can listen to 5,000 times and never get tired of it? Just about every song the Avetts make is like that

  • God these guys can sing.

  • Oh Seth and Scott you have made this world a better place or atleast mine<3333

  • @MsRayneonme you have made my world better mom

  • what album is this from?

  • @SugarMagnoliaTGD Mignonette

  • My goal is to listen to this song each morning and to attempt to live by its principles on a daily basis.

  • Damn!... this song hits home in so many ways. Some songs can bring a tear to the eyes. This is one of them.

  • I just assumed it was about why they went into music. apparently it's about drunks

  • jm5dg you should go back to rehab..... if you're an alcoholic there is no one or two drinks a night. But there is a way out of all of that misery

  • O!!! it's JESUS!!!! ;P

  • What this song is about is...

we came for salvation.... we came for family...

we came for all thats good... thats how we'll walk away.

we came to break the bad.... we came to cheer the sad...

we came to leave behind the world a better way.

  • @madrag707 who are you to judge what the lyrics mean. If j5dg wants the song to be about what you have when your down and out that is his opinion to do so. Just because you come out and say its about God doesn't mean that it is. The point is i think that the Avett Brothers wanted people to believe in what they want may it be god or philosophical terms or something as simple as what you need in life such as love or just a friend to confide in and to help you through the hard times.

  • So just dont shut someone down for simply saying what they want and actually having the courage to share their own emotions with you and everyone else who would happen to read the comments on this page.

  • @zachattack621 I wasnt telling him what the lyrics of the song are or what to belive or how to live.. im just making a point..... and i do not interpret this song to be about any of that .. i was talking to him, not about the song....

  • what the hell is going on with these comments...

  • @Heisen15 Yeah, what is going on with some of these comment?. The lyrics can be taken in several ways, including nothing about the previous comments. That said...I love this song because of it's ambiguity and the overall message of salvation...whatever that means to anyone!

  • This song is simply my calling in life. I had a rough bout with alcoholism and an even rougher time in rehab. I'm back to functioning and drinking only one or two drinks every other night or so. I found that its not about God its not about wishy washy dreams that so many superficial beings live with everyday; its about what you have when your down and out. Its about what your last words would be with a gun in your face. Think about it now and you won't stutter then.

  • @jm5dg I don't know you good sir, but boy, would I be glad to meet you. Your insights on the ballad are simply unparalleled, as if you were a member of the Avett family yourself. I wish you the best of luck in keeping you alcohol problem under control in the future. I myself have stared down the barrel of a gun and to be honest with you, it was not a pretty sight. The next time I happen upon a rough patch in my life, I will think of you, jm5dg, and ask for some kind of divine guidance.

  • @judsonbuechler my friend (for we will forever be friends starting now). I am from Charlottesville and would love to trek to you to meet you. I've written over 50000 comments, each revealing personal information about myself, and your response was the only one I've ever received. I love you friend. Let us dine in a bar and drink to eachother's good health. The rosey cottened window of yesterday morning can be cleaned with windex and elbow grease... but not by windex alone

  • @jm5dg My heart burns thinking about someday coming into contact with such a mind. I shall be visiting the Charlottesville area soon because my great aunt has been stricken with a case of dementia and, unfortunately, her days may be numbered. But I shall not tire you any more with my sad tales. Perhaps we shall meet at the steps of Monticello, for no monument can symbolize our eternal search for beauty in lyricism more than the home of one of the most profound thinkers in our land.

  • @judsonbuechler You are a gentleman and a scholar. For I can tell by your intellect and your insights that you are a man. Let me know when you come to C'ville, for I am inviting you to The Virginian for some cocks with tails (cocktails) and a crispy friend sandwhich. Let us dine like kings and make our way into the hearts of lost souls. Dost thou have a lover? I am alone and could search the strip for young ass or settle for just your company (platonic of course)

  • @jm5dg I regret to tell you, new friend, that my lover has recently deceased in a terrible train accident. I could use some company, as these harsh New England nights grow darker and colder. This long-awaited trip and the friendship that comes with it could not have come at a better time. As Aristotle once said, "What is a friend but a single soul dwelling in two bodies?"

  • @judsonbuechler New England you say! But I just finished Moby Dick! I am a Bostonian at heart, and will be visiting my gay uncle (one could say my life's influence (and the relative who gets a little too friendly under the Thanksgiving table after too much Cabernet)) in Newton, MA. Take me to your home and disarm my coy defenses. Show me unbridled love and remove the girdle which holds back all that I carry. I want to be mounted on a bed of love.

  • @jm5dg uumm sorry to break it to ya bud, but life IS about living for God its not about "what you have when you are down and out or what your last words would be when you have a gun in your face.... if those are the lyrics of the song....they are stupid and inaccurate! sorry.. but it's true! ;)

  • @madrag707 Thank you for pointing that out! Life most def is about living for God.

  • @MonsoonWinds6 Ur welcome! =D

  • @jm5dg Keep it up! Music can really open your soul to new paths. And you know, it's allright to get happy along the way! (Langhorne Slim in Diamonds and Gold)

    X

  • @jm5dg in your opinion.. lol

  • @jm5dg well I haven't touched a drop in over 20 years I am not wishy washy but JESUS IS LORD and that is why I AM STILL SOBER.....

  • @lucy9359 hmm, seems like a non-sequitur to me. but if it works for you, more power to ya!

  • @lucy9359 That is exactly right!!

  • @lucy9359 Jesus enjoyed a little bit of the sauce every now and again......just saying

  • @rideeastern184 He never got drunk and acted like an idiot, He drank whine at weddings and with His dinner... the bible says not to be drunk with whine but with the Spirit of the living God... I having a lower nature which is subject to vanity that His nature was not I don't think it is a good idea...to many inhibitions to let down which is just to tempting! I use to smoke a lot of pot too...definately brought out the carnal in me...just saying

  • @jm5dg Thank you for sharing.

  • Harvest fest was a gooooood time!

  • great music cant wait to see them tommorrow at harvest festival i will be there
