the one main reason many people want accept any belief system is that most people down grade other peoples belief system that is not there own. i am not a mormon but as i sit and read the comments that some people make it's amazing how self righteous we as a race of humans are. it's called belief and faith. honestly no one knows for sure what or when the world will end and what will happen when it does. all we really have is faith and belief.
I love this video. So true. I have felt the Holy Ghost confirm these truths to my spirit as well. I can relate to this. The truth is light to our souls.
I give you my testimony: That I know that Joseph Smith was a Prophet of God, translet the Book Of Mormon through the Gift and Power of God, that Jesus Christ lives, that The Church of JESUS CHRIST of Latter-Day Saints is the only true and living church on the face of the earth, that we are led by a Prophet today, and that if someone reads The Book of Mormon with a sincere heart, asking God if it is true, God will reaveal the truth unto them. I say these things in the name of Jesus Christ. AMEN.
Love this video. I have it on DVD as well. Brigham Young was a great man, powerful leader, and a Prophet of The Most High God of Israel. I love reading the teachings of President Young. I can hope to one day be half the man, and man of God, that he was. That being said, I also love our current Prophet, Thomas S. Monson.
Brigham Young was a very bad man. If you called Torquemada a devil I would not be offended - he deserves it. If the pope deserved it the way Brigham Young does, I would not be offended.
Suit yourself (and your sources of information). But next time you have discussions with LDS, just remove the fake persona of tolerance, kindness, and mututal respect.
we respect everybody's opinion so please try to respect our beliefs also. Sometimes it is very hard for us to accept those bad accusations because we know that we are not like what they think. I also testify that i believe in Jesus Christ and that He is our Savior and redeemer. The Holy Ghost is my witness. Also that I know that the leaders we have are chosen by God. I am also convince that The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is the kingdom of God on earth today.
What's the point of bashing them? I'm not Mormon and I don't agree with them. I could sit here all day and argue, but what's the point? Just respect their beliefs and let them be. That dude who played Brigham Young is a very good actor. It's like they rose Brigham from the dead to act in this film.
The Holy Spirit does do that, but you obviously didn't let it guide you. You were deceived to follow Joseph Smith, who contradicts Jesus. And if you truly studied the teachings of Christ, you would see that. You are in a cult. But I'm done arguing. Nobody will convince you.
Mormonism is wrong on so many levels. There was no Great Apostasy, therefore no need for a restoration. If they would actually study Christ's teachings, they would see that. They preach a different God and a different Jesus, they actually consider guys like Hinckley and Monson "prophets". They are no more than presidents of a cult. Just study the teachings of Joseph Smith and Brigham Young. The things these "prophets" said are severe contradictions of the Bible. Go ahead and take JS over Jesus.
I find most comments from critics to be amusing, just like this one, because YOU make up something instead of portraying what we actually believe.
Ask any member of the LDS Church-Jesus is our Savior, the Son of God, the Living Christ. Joseph Smith is one of his humble servants and prophets, just like Moses of old. There is no comparison between the two-Jesus is our Lord and Master.
But that doesn't stop people like you from trying to tell people otherwise
Once again, the Mormons can't understand scripture. James 1:5. Notice that wisdom, not knowledge is asked for. James is writing to believers who are experiencing various trials and afflictions. These trials are necessary to produce patience. Thus, if anyone doesn't understand the divine purpose in these hardships, he is to ask in faith without doubting, and God will give him the necessary wisdom. Asking for wisdom does not mean receiving an inner testimony if something is true.
Funny that YOU were the one who brought up James 1:5, not an LDS member.
As I mentioned, there are certainly scriptures that talk about the Holy Spirit testifying of truth to us (John 14:26 being one), that you agreed to. So whether it's James 1:5 or another scripture, you too agreed that receiving this witness from God is Biblical.
I agree STROBGLY with lds9999! Im a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. I dont understand why people say we do not follow christ. I mean the name of our church bares his name. as lds9999 said. We believe in The Father, in his son JESUS CHRIST, and in the Holy Ghost. Joseph Smith was just his prophet. and I must say one of the best!
power of the Holy Ghost is far to compare to the "inner feelings" we have. When the Spirit of God testifies we feel no doubts.Only people with pure heart and real intent will have this answer. The scripture James 1:5 is true and i am not ashamed to tell that it is true fro it is from God.if we are going to take it out just to convince ourselves that manifestations from God is not true then we are reply on our own understanding. Also, it is not the heart that gives answers it is the Holy Ghost.
And the holy ghost usually works through the feeling of the Heart, as well as other things and people. It is those feelings of the spirit that are mentioned in Galacians that we feel!
Nowhere in the Bible are we told to pray for a feeling if a book is from God, if a prophet is a true prophet, or if a teaching is a true teaching. If you are truly seeking the truth, you will base your beliefs on more than an inner feeling. You search for the truth through the Bible. God's word is simply true and does not need verification. The heart deceives. You can't trust your feelings. They can be very misleading. I'm sure the next Mormon that reads this will tell me to read James 1:5......

Oh my God! Mormonism is about Joseph Smith and the Book of Mormon. Jesus isn´t even mentioned. No, feeling and emotions never make truth, they can be totally misleading. Mormons start thinking and return completely and totally to the Lord Jesus and leave anyhing else behind. There is so much more in store für you. Jesus died on the cross for your sins. Accepting this is the start of a true relationship with HIM. God bless you.
Jesus is mentioned 168 times in the book of mormon and 97 times in d&c... thats not counting all the other times they mention him with other names such as Christ
Remember all prayers are in the name of Jesus Christ. A prayer towards Jesus can be like "thanks for your sacrifice". Thanking and praising Christ can be done in prayer to him. I talk with God every day, and He responds to me by His word, the Bible. Evidence for Jesus and for the validity of the Bible is very available, not so for the LDS scriptures and teachings... for that one must rely on one's feelings and blind faith.
Every religion claims to be the one true path to god.The only truth is the lack of evidence for any of them or god. You must prove the book is writen by god(without quoting it) and god exists before you can tell people what god wants.
What's hilarious is people who do surface research and become convinced of something! DNA "evidence" has in fact proven very little--it's in the infant stages about this subject.
There's a difference between merely "feeling good", and knowing what is right and good. Drinkers say they "feel good" when they're drunk, bt it's not good for their body.
We never question these men's words, because we know they are right.
I love how LDS entertainment tries to change how members view Brigham Young and Joseph Smith by making them seem more captivating or humble or strong or trustworthy than they actually were. Brigham Young was a megalomaniac and Smith was a con man - even unrelated to the con of a church he made to gain power.
What would you rather watch? Take your pick. There are twenty million videos out there. Would you rather watch Cable television spew it's venom on, and corrupt our children? MTV"Reality" shows? Take your pick. Are you more comfortable with Tele-evangelist preaching the doctrine of prosperity? I tell you what, I love these videos. They inspire me as well as others. I did not personally know Joseph Smith, nor Brigham Young.
Maybe they were captivating, or humble. Maybe they were Strong and trustworthy? I don't know. But I do know that they believed as I do. That Jesus Christ is my Lord and Savior. That I am sure of. Maybe there is an underlining reason that you watch these videos. Do some soul-searching.
Let me get this right: I brought up a point about your religion based on my experience and historical facts. You guys came along with these great rebuttals:
- insulting my 'exciting and busy life' whatever the meaning of that was supposed to be
- insulting my choice in entertainment(?)
- claiming I'm a closet Mormon and assuming that I don't know what I believe (the soul-searching part)
Maybe you guys should actually take the time to make valid rebuttals in your future comments.
Tiller, I don't think any one meant any offense. Your original statement was extremely vague with little substance to it. As a result, there was little that could be said back to it. There's no way to rebut a vague statement or generalization with no specifics or facts attached.
Sure you can! Looks like YouTube has lost or hiding my original comment, but it had to do with this clip making LDS prophets seem like better people than the real counterparts.
IMHO I can't believe it because humans don't act this way. But really it's the same as how Ben Franklin was a womanizer or any other historical figure wasn't a perfect person. I just don't like how they're acting to alter our perception of them.
I've seen your original comment. I think most LDS members realize (perhaps there are some naive) that these prophets were just men. They made mistakes, and they said and did things that probably weren't the best. But nevertheless, they were called of God and did the best they could to fulfill His will.
Though they made those mistakes, I also know that they had some amazing moments. And a lot of these videos, I don't believe are far from the truth in depicting these events.
Well either way we both have different opinions on the matter, but all that matters to me is that you replied with respect, or at the very least, tolerance.
no members of ANY church is perfect, but we believe that even as imperfect as we may be, the one thing that is perfect is the fact that we can live with our Father in heaven again. we believe that although we as people are not perfect, that our GOSPEL IS perfect
So you also believe that you shouldn't judge a man's work even slightly based on his character? My problem is that the many LDS people that I've met seem to prefer to ignore history or make excuses for Joseph and Brigham's relatively inexcusable history in order to perpetuate their own belief system, rather than looking at said history and asking themselves if they think those people should be given the benefit of the doubt, more or less.
tiller, trying to make a point huh? feels good to have an audience eh? (a youtube audience at that) Much love :) the church is true...Jesus lives! Joseph was his prophet.
Surely if Smith was living today and you met him for the first time, you wouldn't believe in him the way you do now, because you would be judging his claims based on his character, rather than making excuses to perpetuate your way of life.
I think the difference is that these were good men. In spite of what they may have been accused they desired nothing more than to serve the Living God. They were human but they were inspired. I'm not interested in their weaknesses or frailties. I love them because they were Prophets and were good men.
The Book of Mormon is the word of God, sometimes when i am filled with doubt i sink to my knees and pray to find out for myself. EVERY time, it is as if someone turned on a light in a dark room, every time it is clear that it is the word of God
Too bad the LDS don't worship Jesus the Christ like Christians do. LDS spend the majority of time praising Joseph Smith. It is a very sad religion. I feel sorry for them.
You don't have to feel sorry for us, because your comments are based on a significant misunderstanding. The center of our faith and worship is Jesus Christ. He is the Son of God, the Savior of the World, and the only One to whom we look for salvation.
We revere Joseph Smith as a prophet who was called by God, just as we are grateful for the work that Moses, Peter, Paul, John, and the others called by God have done.
rottuurbrain, yer right. we don't worship christ like you other "Christians." instead of wearing crucifixes and buying "I Heart Jesus" bumper stickers, we LDS actually pray to him, follow ALL his commandments, read his word, and personally KNOW him.
LDSaint13...Remember, we do NOT pray to Jesus Christ, but to God the Eternal Father in THE NAME of Jesus Christ. He is the Mediator to the Father and Redeemer of ALL man kind, but "Glory be to the Father" and we have been commanded to worship Him. =) Just wanted to clear that up!
you got the meaning of the scripture wrong, it is THROUGH Christ that we pray, all our prayers are said in his name THAT is what it meant and to prove my point... 3 Nephi 18:19-20 "Therefore ye must always pray unto the Father in my name; "And whatsoever ye shall ask the Father in my name, which is right, believing that ye shall recieve, behold it shall be given unto you."
so as jesus said, we pray through him unto our father
omiolo-No, in the LDS Church doctrine, there are NO exceptions. LDS are taught never to pray to Jesus. Acts 7 does allow for it, but official material denies this by stating LDS do NOT pray to Jesus, but the LDS God the Father ALONE:"Our prayers are addressed to the Father, and to Him ONLY." (LDS Apostle Bruce R McConkie, (LDS) Church News March 20, 1982, p 5).
jenny- I know the LDS pray to Father in name of LDS Jesus. My post affirmed this. I shared before: LDS are taught never to pray to Jesus. Acts 7 does allow for it, but official LDS Church material denies this by stating LDS do NOT pray to Jesus, but the LDS God the Father ALONE:"Our prayers are addressed to the Father, and to Him ONLY." (LDS Apostle Bruce R McConkie, (LDS) Church News 3/20/1982, p 5).
However, Jenny, the Bible allows for praying to Jesus, the LDS Church says NEVER pray to Jesus
hockygoon-So, Catholics praying to saints isn't prayer, either, then. It's ust talking to them.
Acts 7 is Stephen praying to Jesus: talking to a post-resurrection Jesus. Talking to God is prayer. NT Jesus is God (Jn 1:1; 8:58,Jn 20:28), not one of many LDS Gods (Ensign 3/2008)
Jesus to the Father: I commit my spirit."
Stephen to POST resurrected NT Jesus in hevaen: "Lord Jesus, receive my spirit." (Acts 7:59)
You made an artificial distinction WITHOUT a difference.
hockey- I love how you overblow what I said. I strictly stayed w/the issues. I never said or hinted Mormons/LDS were evil. I love how many, many LDS have painted all who disagree with the Mormon/LDS Church as evil, bashers, bigots, haters, as gays/GBLTs typically do to all who disagree with homosexuality. A number of LDS have been verbally insulting , bearing false witness against me, and even swearing just because I share why I disagree.
I simply shared LDS Church quotes & why I disagree.
How awesome! Congradulations! Do you know who's baptizing you yet? I would guess, probably one of the missionaries. That was really fast, isn't it awesome? It will be a new life for you, a fresh start with many blessings in store. I will be excited to know your experiences when visiting the temples. :)
We don't worship Joseph Smith but we love him. If you had met a Saint 2000 years ago they would have spoken of Peter and James and John with the same love and devotion. They didn't worship them but they loved and revered them because of their devotion to the Lord and their apostolic calling.
I'm a former LDS and Full-time missionary. I have nothing against the church, but I no longer see "God" the way I did when I was a LDS. That's why I left the church. Maybe you have something to teach me. Maybe I missed the point. Send me a message if you think you have something to offer me.
the queston is, what made you loose your faith? from there it's a lot easier way to proceed to find out what you may have missed. Also your current understanding of god and why is helpful.
How do you see God now than you did before, we do lose our way from time to time, remember the vision that Lehi had of the tree of life and many wandered into the midst of darkness, you are not alone in this world you are not the first and not the last but remember the saviours hand is stretched out to receive you if that is your desire. Take courage.
Joseph Smith was the first prophet and president of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (Mormon Church). If you look at my videos, you will see some about him and his story. After Joseph Smith was murdered, Brigham Young was later called to be the second prophet and president of the Church. Visit mormon org for more information.
We watched this in my mission prep class... I wish everybody in my ward watched it and started giving their testimonies on fast Sunday rather than a recap of their week's trials.
I thought the actor who played Brigham Young was excellent. Does anybody know his name.
I also just watched "The Restoration". A good movie.

Lol this church has been proven false with DNA and archaeology, yet people still believe it. Dumbfoundingly hilarious.
aquabat2206 3 years ago
What's hilarious is people who do surface research and become convinced of something! DNA "evidence" has in fact proven very little--it's in the infant stages about this subject.
lds9999 3 years ago
So does the book of Mormon correspond with modern archaeology in the same way the New Testament does?
christopherfrost 3 years ago
What's hilarious is people who take these old "prophets'" words for anything and never question it because it makes them feel good. How pathetic.
aquabat2206 3 years ago 2
There's a difference between merely "feeling good", and knowing what is right and good. Drinkers say they "feel good" when they're drunk, bt it's not good for their body.
We never question these men's words, because we know they are right.

I love how LDS entertainment tries to change how members view Brigham Young and Joseph Smith by making them seem more captivating or humble or strong or trustworthy than they actually were. Brigham Young was a megalomaniac and Smith was a con man - even unrelated to the con of a church he made to gain power.
tillerGeneric 3 years ago
And yet you spend your free time watching these religious LDS videos about them. You must have an exciting and busy life.
vampov 3 years ago
What would you rather watch? Take your pick. There are twenty million videos out there. Would you rather watch Cable television spew it's venom on, and corrupt our children? MTV"Reality" shows? Take your pick. Are you more comfortable with Tele-evangelist preaching the doctrine of prosperity? I tell you what, I love these videos. They inspire me as well as others. I did not personally know Joseph Smith, nor Brigham Young.
myway43 3 years ago
Maybe they were captivating, or humble. Maybe they were Strong and trustworthy? I don't know. But I do know that they believed as I do. That Jesus Christ is my Lord and Savior. That I am sure of. Maybe there is an underlining reason that you watch these videos. Do some soul-searching.
myway43 3 years ago
Let me get this right: I brought up a point about your religion based on my experience and historical facts. You guys came along with these great rebuttals:
- insulting my 'exciting and busy life' whatever the meaning of that was supposed to be
- insulting my choice in entertainment(?)
- claiming I'm a closet Mormon and assuming that I don't know what I believe (the soul-searching part)
Maybe you guys should actually take the time to make valid rebuttals in your future comments.
tillerGeneric 3 years ago
Tiller, I don't think any one meant any offense. Your original statement was extremely vague with little substance to it. As a result, there was little that could be said back to it. There's no way to rebut a vague statement or generalization with no specifics or facts attached.
lds9999 3 years ago
Sure you can! Looks like YouTube has lost or hiding my original comment, but it had to do with this clip making LDS prophets seem like better people than the real counterparts.
IMHO I can't believe it because humans don't act this way. But really it's the same as how Ben Franklin was a womanizer or any other historical figure wasn't a perfect person. I just don't like how they're acting to alter our perception of them.
tillerGeneric 3 years ago
I've seen your original comment. I think most LDS members realize (perhaps there are some naive) that these prophets were just men. They made mistakes, and they said and did things that probably weren't the best. But nevertheless, they were called of God and did the best they could to fulfill His will.
Though they made those mistakes, I also know that they had some amazing moments. And a lot of these videos, I don't believe are far from the truth in depicting these events.
lds9999 3 years ago
Well either way we both have different opinions on the matter, but all that matters to me is that you replied with respect, or at the very least, tolerance.
tillerGeneric 3 years ago
no members of ANY church is perfect, but we believe that even as imperfect as we may be, the one thing that is perfect is the fact that we can live with our Father in heaven again. we believe that although we as people are not perfect, that our GOSPEL IS perfect
MormonChick14 3 years ago
So you also believe that you shouldn't judge a man's work even slightly based on his character? My problem is that the many LDS people that I've met seem to prefer to ignore history or make excuses for Joseph and Brigham's relatively inexcusable history in order to perpetuate their own belief system, rather than looking at said history and asking themselves if they think those people should be given the benefit of the doubt, more or less.
tillerGeneric 3 years ago
tiller, trying to make a point huh? feels good to have an audience eh? (a youtube audience at that) Much love :) the church is true...Jesus lives! Joseph was his prophet.
tamsanqa11 3 years ago
Surely if Smith was living today and you met him for the first time, you wouldn't believe in him the way you do now, because you would be judging his claims based on his character, rather than making excuses to perpetuate your way of life.
tillerGeneric 3 years ago
I think the difference is that these were good men. In spite of what they may have been accused they desired nothing more than to serve the Living God. They were human but they were inspired. I'm not interested in their weaknesses or frailties. I love them because they were Prophets and were good men.
sticky793 3 years ago 2
don't compare the Holy Word of God with the book of Mormon.
two totaly different things. The book of Mormon was inspired by a mere man.
123456789qwertyqaz 3 years ago
Have you read the entire Book of Mormon?
lds9999 3 years ago
The Book of Mormon is the word of God, sometimes when i am filled with doubt i sink to my knees and pray to find out for myself. EVERY time, it is as if someone turned on a light in a dark room, every time it is clear that it is the word of God

"don't compare the Holy Word of God with the book of Mormon"

Too bad the LDS don't worship Jesus the Christ like Christians do. LDS spend the majority of time praising Joseph Smith. It is a very sad religion. I feel sorry for them.
rotturbrain1234 3 years ago
You don't have to feel sorry for us, because your comments are based on a significant misunderstanding. The center of our faith and worship is Jesus Christ. He is the Son of God, the Savior of the World, and the only One to whom we look for salvation.
We revere Joseph Smith as a prophet who was called by God, just as we are grateful for the work that Moses, Peter, Paul, John, and the others called by God have done.
lds9999 3 years ago
rottuurbrain, yer right. we don't worship christ like you other "Christians." instead of wearing crucifixes and buying "I Heart Jesus" bumper stickers, we LDS actually pray to him, follow ALL his commandments, read his word, and personally KNOW him.
ldsaint13 3 years ago
"we LDS actually pray to him"
LDSaint13...Remember, we do NOT pray to Jesus Christ, but to God the Eternal Father in THE NAME of Jesus Christ. He is the Mediator to the Father and Redeemer of ALL man kind, but "Glory be to the Father" and we have been commanded to worship Him. =) Just wanted to clear that up!
invisus89 3 years ago
"we do NOT pray to Jesus Christ,"
there are exceptions!
omiolo 3 years ago
Please tell me doctrinally of those "exceptions" since you know so much about the LDS faith.

"Please tell me doctrinally of those "exceptions" since you know so much about the LDS faith. "
3 Nephi 19:18
"And behold, they began to pray; and they did pray unto Jesus, calling him their Lord and their God."
I was voted mostly likely to know everything about the LDS faith (in my seminary class =))
BTW, I have many more once you confirm this one!
osmiolos 3 years ago
you got the meaning of the scripture wrong, it is THROUGH Christ that we pray, all our prayers are said in his name THAT is what it meant and to prove my point... 3 Nephi 18:19-20 "Therefore ye must always pray unto the Father in my name; "And whatsoever ye shall ask the Father in my name, which is right, believing that ye shall recieve, behold it shall be given unto you."
so as jesus said, we pray through him unto our father
MormonChick14 3 years ago
"you got the meaning of the scripture wrong,"
Do I?
read chapter 19 again. =)
Like I said there are PLENTY of exceptions. They are there for specific reasons!
for better clarification
read Talmage, Mcconkie, Ballard, and/or Maxwell. I am sure there are many more too!
osmiolos 3 years ago
omiolo-No, in the LDS Church doctrine, there are NO exceptions.
Bible allows for it, the LDS Church denies it.
harry4health 3 years ago
Hey Harry: Just saw one of your comments. We pray to the Father (Dear Father in Heaven) in the name of his son, Jesus Christ. That is how we pray.
jennysjuice 3 years ago 4
jenny- I know the LDS pray to Father in name of LDS Jesus.
However, Jenny, the Bible allows for praying to Jesus, the LDS Church says NEVER pray to Jesus
harry4health 3 years ago
i love how ya'll word it so we sound evil. And nowhere in Acts 7 is Jesus prayed to. He's spoken to, but not prayed to.
hockeygoon79 2 years ago
hockygoon-So, Catholics praying to saints isn't prayer, either, then.
Prayer IS speaking to Deity
harry4health 2 years ago
hockey- I love how you overblow what I said.

i'm TOUCHED you feel sorry for us, but I think we'll be all right

We don't worship Joseph Smith but we love him. If you had met a Saint 2000 years ago they would have spoken of Peter and James and John with the same love and devotion. They didn't worship them but they loved and revered them because of their devotion to the Lord and their apostolic calling.

I'm a former LDS and Full-time missionary. I have nothing against the church, but I no longer see "God" the way I did when I was a LDS. That's why I left the church. Maybe you have something to teach me. Maybe I missed the point. Send me a message if you think you have something to offer me.
Angeldeluz1970 3 years ago
the queston is, what made you loose your faith? from there it's a lot easier way to proceed to find out what you may have missed. Also your current understanding of god and why is helpful.
Jarkko1983 3 years ago
How do you see God now than you did before, we do lose our way from time to time, remember the vision that Lehi had of the tree of life and many wandered into the midst of darkness, you are not alone in this world you are not the first and not the last but remember the saviours hand is stretched out to receive you if that is your desire. Take courage.

Can Somebody please tell me whats the difference between Brigham Young and Joseph Smith i really dont know
icecub20 3 years ago
Joseph Smith was the first prophet and president of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (Mormon Church). If you look at my videos, you will see some about him and his story. After Joseph Smith was murdered, Brigham Young was later called to be the second prophet and president of the Church. Visit mormon org for more information.
