X5 all the way. X6 always sounded like a starsky and hutch chase theme to me, just didn't quite work but was still good. Best part about X7's is the 4 seconds at the beginning.

What you say about X5 does ring true: half the reploids weren't even mavericks but just wanted to be left alone to do their own thing, even if it was unsavoury, but you still destroyed them to be on the "safe side". Maverick Hunters are a bunch of dichotomic assholes.

1. Megaman X7: Fucking awesome. I have no complaints.

2. Megaman X8: Really, really cool. The arrangement and the way the whole track was put together is on par with the first Megaman X game's boss music, but it being on a newer console increased it's length and intrumental compexity, which made it more satisfying.

X6 deserves credit for using live guitars instead of synths like the games before it. It has a really good ost in my opinion.

Also, X5 has the best ost period. But the boss theme from X1 is still better than X5's and X7 has the second best ost considering it's a horrible game. X7's boss theme is on par with X1 to be honest.

Heres my take on this:

X1- A classic, very catchy and upbeat. Brings back memories of early childhood

X2- Somewhat similar to X1 music style, but its okay

X3- Kind of a darkish tone, seems okay but nothing promising

X4- My personal favorite, i felt that X4 was the game at its highest peak and was one of the last GOOD games before the X series starts to decline.

X5- Although i didnt like the use of a time limit for X5, the use of techno seems to compliment pretty well.
